Such a shame, the lace eyelet snapped on their first gentle walk. I had assumed that they were metal, but sadly plastic. Not anywhere near the quality I have come to expect from Salomon

Salomon uses the lesser of shoe size option UK sizing. A 10. 5 is actually a 10 3/4. It's unfortunate that so many shoe manufactures have decided to go the accountants way rather than the cobblers way. ...

I bought these in May 2020 and they have provide great support and comfort on a range of trips and terrains. No break in, no blisters and no foot ache at the end of the day no matter the distance! Sadly, the enjoyment has only lasted 8 months as, like many other reviewers, the seal / glue between the sole and the nubeck outer has failed meaning both boots now leak like a sieve! This explains my 2 star review, as for the price of this boot Id Expect the materials to last far longer than 8 months.

I had a pair of green boots, think quest type, absolutely fantastic boots so just bought the 4D 3 GTX boots, & I have already fallen over twice, the tread is useless, no grip at all, very disappointed indeed, I'm now going to have to hunt for another pair of boots with a better tread & grip as I have lost all confidence walking on Dartmoor in these boots

The stitching on the inner front right boot came out after a week and the opposite boot soon followed, after four months and a little glue they have held together. The amount of water they let in is not a big deal unless in snow or freezing weather, I had them in snow and they frooze solid because of the water it let in. It is very comfortable and light with good grip and support, if not for the stitching and Gore-Tex failing I would give a much better review.

First I need to express how comfortable this boot is, it is unbelievably comfortable and the sole is amazing to walk on it is very well designed in every aspect from cushion/rebound to the tailoff angle on the heel so every step flows into the next. For comfort I rate these 10/10......HOWEVER the quality of these boots is terrible for the price tag! The rubber toe cap has begun to separate from the boot, the leather has started to split where there is a crease and the sole is separating from the upper as you can see in my photos!! I've cleaned and looked after these boots and not even done any rough hikes in them I've only used them for walking my dog and they are falling apart!

Bought these last year and used them on multiple of hikes but haven't used them excessively. The toe cap has come way so now get full off water and dirt. It looks like the sole is also starting to delaminate so as comfort as they are I probably wouldn't recommend. Which is a great shame as they are very comfortable.

Bought the Soloman 4D 3 GTX boots. In 2017. Hiking, hunting, everything. I wanted to love these boots, however, after 5 months of hitting the trails, the toe cap came unglued, no problem, used gorilla glue to fix that. Soon after the boots absorbed water, I followed instructions from both soloman and Nikwax people, and still they absorbed water. I live in the PNW, so these boots are great for the desert and the rock. But west of the Cascades in the wet, coast range, these boots are lousy. For as expensive as they are, and three years later I'm seeing reviews showing the same problems I have demonstrated Solomans lack of commitment to good products. Like I said I want to like these boots. But they are lousy. On top of that, Soloman doesn't have a recycling program for old worn out shoes. So why should I support a company who makes an overpriced shoe, that fails quickly and then I must throw them into a landfill. Soloman, please get your crap together. I will not recommend these boots to anyone.

I received these boots as a gift in August 2020. Out the box, they are comfortable yet supportive. Honestly, they checked almost all the boxes for what I look for in a boot. However, I noticed glue separation at the toe cap today. Keep in mind I've only logged about 30 miles over 3 months in these boots. I wanted to like these boots as much as I like my Salomon ski boots, but I cannot recommend these due to durability (especially at this price point).

I went through three pairs in three years the soles kept wearing out and had to keep contacting the company for replacements which the ho errs until my last defect. I have had about 5 pairs total and all of them had a product defect. Mainly glue separation. I wear my boots almost every day I. All terrain, being a tac guy my advice is keep looking.

Purchased these boots at the start of the year. Very comfortable, and a great fit. First autumnal hike in poor British weather this weekend with several hours of prolonged rain - first time out in poor weather. Took less than 45 mins for both feet to be completely sodden. Waterproofing completely failed despite following recommended maintenance after each use - very disappointing. Materials seem durable but toe rubber rand has started to lift on both boots in the same place. It's minor so don't believe this is responsible for the terrible water resistance. To round out the review, I would agree with comments on other reviews that grip isn't at its best on damp rocky terrain, but generally I would say it's pretty good. Boots have served well through many spring and summer hikes - anything from 5-15 miles but the purchase has been ruined after the first wet walk.

Admittedly, I bought these boots a few years ago, and I have liked them. I wore them constantly because they helped my arthritic knee, even in the summer. But now the soles are falling apart-- glue failure. I paid a premium for what I thought was a premium product. I understand life expectancy and wear and tear but the soles simply separating is not, in my opinion, normal wear and tear. The treads themselves are in good shape as is the rest of the boot. I need to replace them but I won't be buying Salomon again. Please find a glue that works. It doesn't seem like that difficult a problem in 2020.

These boots were comfortable and required little break-in. I am size 9.5 and they fit perfect with normal sock. So I used these on a day hike of Mt. Williamson in the Sierras. It was a punishing 30+ mile hike over about 14 hours. The summit push was loose rock and talus, and these boots DID keep me safe on sketchy terrain. However when we got back from the hike I noticed the rubber toe on one boot was already separating. I would give these boots 4.5 if not for that, but I can't give better than a 2, as I need boots to list much longer. If you are sticking to a normal hiking trail rather than going over loose rock these boots would probably be perfect but who knows what you will encounter until you do.

Everything are ok. But when I wear it, it was very tight. I strong hope that wide model make in the future. The other company make such as 8.5 and 8.5 wide, 9.5 and 9.5 wide. So, we can choice many option size.

The boot is well made and durable. However, I find that it runs narrow. I've put about 50km on them in the hopes of breaking them in, but it's still uncomfortably tight. I wish Salomon would offer a wide variant of this boot.

I bought these in January 2019 for spring hiking, they proved very comfortable, much lighter and cooler than my leather boots. After few months I noticed they were affected by water water from entering near the toe flexure. Since then I have used them only on dry summer walks. April 2020 and the Nubuck has completely cracked through near the toe flex started to part from the welt. Never had a pair of boots wear this badly over such a short period.

I wear nothing but Salomon shoes. Size 11 is perfect for me. Well, except for these boots. Go a 1/2 size down from your usual go to size. Now I have boots that I can't wear...

GORTEX liner WILL FAIL. Thought the first pair I used was defective and tried a second pair. As you can see in photos boot condition is fairly new. Within 30 miles of light duty these boots failed miserably in wet weather. Entire footbed was squishing in water by the end of my rainy hike. Outsole is grippy and lacing system makes for secure ankles but NOT waterproof, GOR TEX will inevitably fail within a short period of time. Just trying to warn buyers out there

Come on SALOMON, your getting very creative with the sizing. It's UK sizing yes? Therefore 1/2 the population gets 1/4 size to small or 1/4 size to large. Unfortunately many footwear companies are shifting to the inferior UK sizing to save overhead costs and at these prices. UK sizing for street wear not precision athletic type endeavors.
I'd also recommend:
Zamberlan & Scarpa have honest EU sizing.

When i first bought these boots i thought i had found the perfect boot, they were very comfortable straight out of the box, were very well made and not too heavy. Until recently i was very happy, that was until we started getting some wet weather. The wet grip on these boots is very poor, bordering on dangerous if you are on the mountains in the Lake District, they loose grip very easily, even on the flat they don't have much grip. I thought it might just be me so i asked my boss at work who bought a pair about the same time as me, and he agreed with me, he said they were terrible in the wet and is just going to use them as a summer boot. I also spoke to an assistant in Go Outdoors where i bought them from and they said they had had quite a few people say the wet grip was poor as well. I tested them against a pair of Meindl Kapstadt's that have a Vibram sole on and the difference was like night and day, the Vibram soles stuck like glue as Vibram soles always do. I have never had a bad Vibram sole. So overall i am now very disappointed with these boots, if Salomon could make this boot with a Vibram sole i think they would have the perfect hiking boot.
