To my surprise these shoes were very comfortable the first time I wore them. No break-in time required. The heel cushioning is excellent. Lots of room in the toe box with excellent arch support. The heel of my foot was well supported and cradled by the shoe. Being waterproof and no tie make them a 5 out of 5! I highly recommend and I am buying the other color option too!

light weight, good cushion and grip on rocks and snow, flexible, nice style, love the easy lacing! wish I can get these lacing for all my kids shoes.

I was looking for a pair of shoes that would keep my feet dry especially on summer mornings when the grass is wet from the dew. Even in very wet conditions my feet stay dry. The trail shoes are extremely comfortable and feel great from the time I put them on until I take them off 5-6 hours later. I normally wear a 9.5 wide and was very happy that the 9.5 regular has extra room in the toe box and fit me well. I love these shoes and would recommend them to friends.

Took these out on their first trail run last weekend and I loved them. The cushion definitely is different than my saucony running shoes but not necessarily bad. Great traction and I loved the waterproof. Lots of puddles but my socks stayed dry. I even put my whole foot into a creek to test them out; success, no wet socks!

I love my hiking shoes! I own at least 4 pairs in different brands but this is my favorite. I have hiked 16 miles at the Palisades Interstate couple weeks ago and I had no issue! Now I have written the review, I need to buy an extra pair for back up just incase it rans out soon! :)

There's a lot to be impressed about with this shoe. I'm used to waterproof shoes being heavy and hot; these are lightweight and breathable. The soles are really grippy, and there's room in the toe box to spread my toes without sliding around. But what really impresses me is that the arch is so good that I don't need to insert my custom orthotics! There was almost no break-in time needed on these; I was ready to hit a trail within a matter of a day or two.

I purchased these shoes because I walk my dog every day, whether it is snowing or raining. I have extremely high arches and plantar fasciitis, so I normally wear a shoe that is geared toward that issue. Since I thought that I would only be wearing these on inclement days, and only for an hour or so at a time, I would give these a try and if worse came to worse, I could take an insole out of my other shoes while I wore these. Much to my surprise, that was not even necessary. Not only are they an attractive shoe, but they are well made and extremely comfortable. The arch support was also a nice surprise. The only thing I did notice, was that they are a bit on the larger side. Not enough that I would return them for a smaller pair, but if you are already sizing up for athletic shoes, it may not be necessary. I would definitely buy them again.

Excellent quality. If I am walking a lot, they are comfortable, But because the heel is higher, my foot starts hurting if I stand in them for long.

I wanted to try a waterproof shoe with this type of lacing system and this shoe had very good reviews. Unfortunately this style doesn't work for my weird foot! Although the reviews also indicated it runs TTS, I found it to be a bit on the large side overall...certainly not a full half size larger though so this could be a great option for another foot. Because it was a bit large overall - for my foot - the shoe bent in the wrong places, but the arch support was noticeably prominent. Loved the pink/purple color though.

This shoe allows me to walk for 13 hours at a time with minimal foot pain. Shoes have a clasp for laces, which improves safety. Soles of shoes do make my feet feel less sensitive to the ground underneath me, but the contour allows for safety anyways. Great shoes.

I am a diehard fan of the Mountain Masochist and will continue to wear them daily even if the red is actually pink, but some more natural colors would be better. Also, I don't like the new lace system at all. I don't mind the lace system so much, but the laces are too thin. This has historically been a high functioning trail running shoe, Columbia, don't screw it up!

I would have loved to keep these shoes but as others have said, the arch of the insole is not in the correct place. I don't have the time nor energy to shop for new insoles so sadly I returned them :(

I really wanted to like these. Love the color and look of the design. Love that they were low enough around the ankles to not rub. But, as another reviewer pointed out (and I should have paid attention to), the arch is plain weird. When walking in these, it almost feels like there are two arches - two points at which you feel the rise of the arch. One is an inch in front of where the arch should be and one an inch in back. Just plain odd.

My last pair of Montrails finally wore out. I ordered these, hoping they would be similar enough to the old style even though Columbia bought Montrail. Sadly, they are not. The arch support hit me strangely-enough that it would be an issue. The toe box seemed like it was similar to the old Montrails and had support there, but I couldn't keep these. So sad. Montrails have been my favorite hiking shoes for years.

I have been a Masochist fan for many years. I hate the new laces. The new design makes it impossible to switch out the laces and I can no longer get a comfortable fit. I love these shoes, but can no longer use them. Why did you change the design?
So disappointing, as we all know when you find a great pair of shoes, trying to find a replacement is impossible.

I ordered online so if I could try on it might have been better. They look nice though.

Like some of you I have been exclusively wearing Montrail trail shoes for many years because of their fit, traction, stability and construction. When I found out that Columbia had taken them over I was a bit concerned but decided to try them out. Unfortunately, what arrived was a huge disappointment. Upon taking them out of the box they looked like a grotesque, shiny, plastic imitation of the originals. The formally wide toe-box has been narrowed and tapered, and given the size I always wore comfortably, my foot surprisingly was crammed into them. Time to look for a new brand of trail shoes. So sorry Columbia has totally ruined the best shoe for me. Wonder what others are using as a replacement for these.

I was unhappy with this shoe the moment I put it on. Literally, after the first step, I knew I was returning them. The toe was very boxy and the top material was very hard, so it cinched down on top of my toes and hurt. I don't think it would loosen up to be less firm.
