I wanted to give this 5 stars because they fit well, are comfortable and look good. So why did I dumb it down to one star? It's not for the choices, I just need to give it one star to warn of the danger of slipping. On the first day it was crazy rainy and I was walking on a slick surface so I blamed the surface. Now I found myself walking at a normal commuter pace on a damp day when I stepped on the steel edge of a curb and just went flying. This was not by balance or any other kind of issue, there appears to be absolutely less than zero adhesion on damp surfaces. I tested the shoe after I fell (luckily no serious injuries) and sure enough it just slides on damp surfaces as if it were on wet ice. So lucky I did not hike in the woods with my son yesterday. Who knows what would happen? So from my perspective I give this one star for a DANGER WARNING and it would be ZERO if I could do that! I don't know what else to say, either don't buy them or watch out! This is a poorly thought through component of the shoe and I am shocked that New Balance did not test the adhesion of the soles.

Lacks wet traction on smooth surfaces

New Balance has declined and haven't had good shoes since the late 90's - early 00's, IMO. The 801, 802, 803 were the last good A/T shoes. The fact that someone commented on slipping doesn't surprise. Yes, unfortunately when I see that N these days, I usually keep moving. It's a shame too.

This is my second pair of New Balance Nitrel shoes. New Balance sizing in general is always on point, the material is very durable and though these aren't the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn, they aren't bad at all. I work in a gym 6 days a week and these are great to work and train in. Will be buying another pair.

Solid, affordable and light. Not a forever shoe, but great for a few months of trail running.

Great shoes overall. I did size up half a size like the reviews requested and I think that was the right move. I typically wear size 10.5 Wide in NB and ordered 11 wide. Plenty of room in the Toebox for my wide foot. They’re super light and give great support. I haven’t had any issues with slipping on wet surfaces like the other reviews mentioned and I walk on all types of surfaces for work. Just a sweet looking shoe that’s great for everything, working out, running, or cruising.

Purchased these for my husband. He has a wide foot. I had to send back these shoes because he said they ran short, so we went up a size and he loves them. Super light and arch support is good!

The shoe width I ordered was 4E. I have a wide foot. This particular style felt slightly narrower ocross the toe box than other New Balance models I have had. Running with the laces very loose accommodates for the snug toe box and I will not return them but if you have a wide foot this may not be the best option.

10.5 4E purchased, have to wear with AFO’s and fits well.

Perfect. I bought a second pair because I loved the first so much. So when the first ones wear out, I have another pair.

I bought the Dark Covert Green/black in 9.5 4E. The shoe fits my foot very well. For reference other shoes that fit my specific width well are the NB black/black Coast v3, NB 675 v2 running shoes, New Balance 609 walking shoes, and usually any XW Rockport shoe. The green color looks great on the shoe and in contrast to the dappled black sole. The ankle is well-cushioned and the overall shoe feels sturdy. A couple of cons are that the green matte finish tends to scuff easily and the pull-tab on the rear of the shoe juts out parallel to the ground and is sturdy enough to keep a pants cuff from falling over it making for a decidedly dorky look. I bought these shoes as casual sneakers and for me they are perfect. I can't speak to walking on rugged terrain with them but recommend if you're looking for something fashionable in a wide size.

Great looking and comfortable shoe. Lightweight and still has some nice grip on the soles for more aggressive terrain.
