These shoes fit great! I bought these because I am trying to begin living an active lifestyle and needed something to support my weight, overpronation and plantar fascitis. No complaints! I am able to do my 30-45 minutes on the treadmill and run errands in one day without foot fatigue or a sore ankle. Very supportive for my flat feet and good ankle support since my foot is wide in the front and tapers to almost narrow in the back.

I love these shoes!! My old favorite pair (old version of the 840) was falling apart and I have tried several that just weren't the same fit. I finally found these and they felt like home right away! I didn't take them off all day. I need a larger toe box because I have neuropathy in my feet and my toes are hypersensitive to pressure. I also need the wide base in the sole of the shoe to help with balance. I also love that they don't slip on my heel - my left foot is slightly smaller than my right and so most shoes slip on my left heel - but not these! They support my feet wonderfully. Thank you New Balance! And thanks to Zappos for their free shipping and returns!! The colors are perfect - not too garish. I like the style, too - not heavy, large and clunky like some support shoes.

I love these shoes. My feet have had several surgeries and need a lot of cushion for the bottom of my feet. I have always found New Balance shoes the most comfortable, but the 840v4 is the best ever. I can walk 18 holes of golf in these shoes and not feel pain! They are not the prettiest shoes, but my feet think they are. At my age (78), comfort and walkability outweigh looks.

Best New Balance I've ever had for my feet. Nice, roomy toe box and better cushioning than other NB shoes I've had. Almost like wearing slippers.

This shoes is sporty and in style. It is extremely comfortable and provides great support for the neutral walker/runner. I am also fond of a slightly wider shoe. While the width is true to size, the wider toe box makes for a better fit.

My feet are severely arthritic, I'm prone to Morton's Neuroma and I have hip issues. Buying a "shoe" isn't possible for me as I can only feel comfortable and secure in a sneaker. These sneakers give me a cleaner look for most of my outfits as well as being very comfortable and I get super good support with my orthotics. Yes, the fabric at the top of the heel sometimes feels like it slips down but I just maneuver it until it lays flat.

EXCELLENT SHOES!!! After 40 years I FINALLY found the perfect shoe! The 12mm drop is absolutely imperative for me since I have peroneal tendonosis and have to keep the pressure off those tendons (the higher drop also saves my knees!), the forefoot is wide and deep enough for my high instep, and the sole/last is wide and supportive so my ankles and feet are properly supported, and so are my orthotics. I’m a C-ish width, so D widths are almost always too wide and my foot slides around in them, but B-widths are always too tight on my high instep. These are perfect! No sliding around! I can even wear them for dance aerobics because they are so supportive all the way around that my feet and ankles are supported even in lateral movements!!! Dream come true since NO cross trainers fit my high instep. I’m in love. So grateful for Zappo’s return policy, which let me try on at least 50, probably closer to 100 pairs of shoes in order to get just the right fit. What a relief! <3

I have worn New Balance 840 type running shoes for over 25 years. I lost my order contact 2 years ago, and my feet have suffered since then. Someone told me about Zappos, and Lo and Behold you carried them! I ordered a pair of 840v4 ( my last pair were 840v2), hoping that New Balance had not changed anything but the number. They were supposed to arrive Sunday the 26th, Memorial Day weekend. I thought to myself, there is no way they will arrive Sunday and Monday is a holiday, so they will probably come Tuesday. To my surprise they arrived Sunday morning, the shoes fit perfectly, and my feet are in seventh heaven. A special thank you to Jeremy who helped me back order the shoes. My podiatrist said you were a good company to buy shoes from, and I agree. Nice website, courteous staff, informed me when shoes were available, delivered on stated day, what more could you want? My foot measures 8WW with one foot a little longer than the other so I ordered an 8.5WW and they fit perfectly. I am moving from sedentary to walking daily and have a lot of foot pain and pronation. These have a roomy toe box and don’t slip off my heel. I have a high arch/fat little foot, and the laces left plenty of room to loosen and still tie in a double knot. I’ve got my FitBit going and I’m finding the shoes add confidence as I work to eliminate pain, stiffness, and flexibility. At least I know it isn’t my shoes! Highly recommend.

I've had a problem with my ankle for several years. It would be painful to walk after a few short steps. After some time with a Physical Therapist, she recommended New Balance 840v4 as shoes that would help me regain the ability to withstand walking for greater periods of time. I was sold. I purchased a pair from a store in West Warwick, RI. this past summer. They were just what I needed. After decades of trying to find footwear that would allow me to get some exercise I had discovered the answer. This winter I decided to get a second pair. I ordered them from Zappos on-line through Amazon. Apparently Amazon has a software problem as the shoes I saw on the order page turned up on my checkout page a different size. I decided to order directly from Zappos. I ordered them on a Tuesday and Friday they appeared at my door, exactly what I ordered and now I have a second pair that fit perfectly. They have renewed my confidence that I can get the weight bearing exercise I need. I'm 80 years old. It sure took a long time to discover something that would work for me but now I have and am thrilled with this footwear.

I would not recommend any other brand or style. These are the only ones that work for me.

These are the first New Balance shoes I've found in my size and have liked in the last several years. I have a large foot - size 13 - and am glad to have some "girly" options with New Balance in the size I need and not always have to shop from the men's selection. My only complaint is they don't seem to have a lot of arch support, but considering I remove the insert to put in an arch support insert, that doesn't really matter to me. If I didn't have other inserts to use, I may feel otherwise. I like the color and hope they hold up well.

Just got my second pair of these. What I like: Comfy right out of the box - very little break in needed. Large toe box - I like some wiggle room. They don't bend at weird places that bother toes - no ill-placed seams. Laces are slightly stretchy so no instep discomfort. Hope they make this one for a long time. Glad they do not come in more colors because I'd be tempted to get them all ; )

Best shoe for orthotics, after trying literally every shoe in every brand in my EE width, this shoe is the winner. The toe box is roomy, wide and deep, orthoitcs sit nicely, heel isn’t slipping. Finally!

I have two pairs of these NB now and rotate them for working out and running. Yes, the toe box is big, which I love. The arch support is great. My only "complaint" is the tongue moves around, regardless of how I lace them up. Other than that, they are great shoes. I've also had a bunionectomy on each foot...

I have been wearing these for road walking. At first they felt great but after a couple months the lost all support and starting hurting my very small bunion. They just don’t hold up.

This shoe is the most comfortable I have put on in years. I have a wide foot, high arch, and narrow heel...and bunions. I usually have to use a device to stretch shoes to fit my bunions, but this shoe is so flexible that it shapes around my bunions, flexes with my feet, and provides the cushion I need, no stretching required! The style is very sporty, wish there was a flat that fit like this that was a more formal!

I have "duck feet" which are wide at the front and narrower at the heel. I've been wearing size 5-1/2 EE running shoes in New Balance for the past decade. I originally ordered the 840v4 in that size but found it was a bit short. The size 6 EE fit well -- wide, tall toe box so the top of the shoe is not pressing down on my toes, and normal heel width so my heel is not coming out of the shoe. I've done about 15 miles in it and have not had any issues with rubbing or sore spots. The included insole provides less than adequate arch support for me. I would say a little more than no support but less than moderate support. I use the New Balance IAS3720 stability insole which provides good, firm arch support. Only minor complaint is the length of the shoelaces. After tying once, the loops are barely 1-1/2" long making it a bit difficult to knot it to prevent loosening and coming untied. My other running shoes have loops between 2-1/2" and 3-1/2" after tying. Got the Thunder/Pisces color combo which is as pictured -- dark blue/grey. Just ordered the Cyclone/Poisonberry.

Great shoe! I can always wear NB as long as they keep the big toe box and narrow heel. Suits my feet perfectly. I’m attaching a picture to show the proper lacing . This prevents the tongue from shifting as well as preventing damage to the tendon and ligament on the top of the foot , it reduces pressure when you tie the string. Remove string from top hole on both sides and thread back on same side into top hole. Now create a loop and put the opposite string through that large loop. Snug up and tie as usual. Viola. Perfect no sliding no pressure.

I absolutely love these shoes. The pictures online don't do them justice. Plus, my custom orthotics fit in them so well. They're even better than the 840v3 pair I'm replacing. So happy with my purchase.

Best shoes EVER!!!!!! I do replace the insoles with Superfeet Berry (also highly recommend), and the combination of these shoes and those inserts has literally changed my life! I have been dealing with chronic peroneal tendinitis and now tendonosis for over a decade (since 2007). I tried chiropractic, laser therapy, five podiatrists and each of their insanely expensive custom inserts, nerve conduction testing, taping, every type of custom insert on the market and every specialty shoe store, and four physical therapists, all to no avail. Finally I got a good podiatrist who wasn’t just all about what she could sell me, and she looked at my shoes (Brooks Ghost at the time with custom inserts) and told me the shoe didn’t have enough support and the insert had way too much support. She said it all probably started from wearing shoes with too much probation control. She said to look for a neutral shoe (I moderately pronate) that has a solid base with good arch support, meaning very little to no cut-away of the sole under the arch, AND a 12 mm heel-to-toe drop. So hard to find these days with the trend of “minimal” shoes, but these shoes fit the description perfectly! Adding the Berry inserts makes these shoes absolute perfection!!! They do run big, and the wide is wider than Brooks’ wide, thankfully. So I wear a 10D in Brooks Ghost, but those were a bit long and a tad narrow on me—I’m more of a 9.5. I measure almost a 9.5 C. The 9D on these fits me perfectly and they are sooooooo comfy. I always keep two pair—an indoor pair and an outdoor pair, and I always try to have a backup pair too. The colors are always good too and they usually have more than one color available in wide, which is pretty much unheard of in other brands. I really need two different colors so I can easily tell which are my indoor and which are my outdoor pair. These always come in really pretty but low-key color combinations, so much nicer than always getting stuck with black or white or some completely crazy color combination because wide only comes in one color in Brooks. Because of these shoes, I can now exercise! I can now do more than hobble through a little walk because my tendinitis is gone and my tendonosis is totally under control. I do one hour -plus workouts of walking aerobics, weight training, and I can even do a little bit of high impact now without triggering my tendonosis. After a decade of searching, these are my miracle shoes! These shoes (plus the Berry inserts) provide just the right combination of cushion and support. I love them!!!!! I really really hope NB never changes them!

Adding to my review—even the toe box on these are perfect. Not too narrow, not too wide, not too shallow, not too deep. It doesn’t wrinkle when I tighten my laces and has zero pressure points on my toes. I hope they never change these shoes, except to add new colors because I’d buy them in every color every year!

Finally! Great fitting shoes! I do have to size down in these compared to Brooks, but I have to size up Brooks for width. My foot measures as 9.5 almost D width. Brooks Ghost I wear a 10 D and they’re not a great fit (a bit long and a bit too narrow). These I wear a 9 D and they’re a perfect fit. I do add Superfeet Berry to these and my foot still sits nice and deep in these. I looooove these shoes. I have chronic peroneal tendinitis/tendonosis and have been looking for the right shoes for over a decade now. Thankfully I finally found these! So naturally I bought them in both colors, which are great. The cushion on these is just right, the heels aren’t too low, the base is perfect—supportive all the way under my arch but not bulky. Even the laces are long enough which is hard to come by in wide shoes. I work from home and wear these all day in the house and work out in them, and they have held up wonderfully. The outsoles of the Brooks were failing after only a few weeks but these have held up perfectly. I have an outdoor pair and an indoor pair and they’ve both held up great. So so so happy with these shoes!

Needed 3 pairs to get 2 ok shoes. Good service from Zappo`s dealing with this. Ordered size 13 2A 1st pair one tongue not straight returned 2nd pair one tongue too short. Zappo sent replacement at no extra charge 3rd pair shoe seemed crooked, hard to keep foot straight ahead. Settled on 2nd pair left foot, 3rd pair right foot. Returned other 2 shoes Have narrow heel and need wider toes and these are great. Also bought NB 1080 witch fit well, but not as good for poor weather as no bumper around toe.
