2021 Update:
- Midfoot and arch narrowed for a more anatomic fit, see photos for details, it's a MINOR change
- Rest of insole is the SAME as prior years
- Narrowing results in arch support more appropriately recreating and supporting the medial foot arch with each step, important for those with flat feet (pes planus), overpronators, or posterior tibial tendon insufficiency
- You DO feel the arch support more with the new insoles compared to the old (I have used the old ones since 2016 and have purchased 10 pairs), but this is a GOOD thing. If you don't FEEL the support, it means it's not actually happening for you. For people with standard width D (or narrow, B) feet, this is a better insole. For those with E or EE, maybe the old one was sufficient.
- I was really worried seeing reviewers complain about the new design (having relied on these for years), and incredibly relieved when I bought them and I tried them myself.
- For those who are finding the arch support too noticeable, it's entirely possible you don't actually need quite so much arch support -- not everyone does! The same mfg makes insoles in a "comfort" line that may be a better option for some, with what looks like lots of padding of the same materials
Construction
- High quality plastic/nylon arch support and heel cup (nylon is great because it won't compress and lose its height, like foam does). I've found these insoles last a long time, I routinely replace them every 12 months out of habit, but the amount of wear on them at that point is incredibly reasonable. I used to wear out other insoles in 2-3 months.
- Gel padding for the heel pad and metatarsal heads (strike / impact zones), works great to decrease impact for walking/running. Really appreciated on 12-18hr work shifts also.
Sizing
- I found these fit my shoes true to size, and use the 11-12.5 insoles for my size 11.5-12 shoes. At first for dress shoes I trimmed the forefoot for an ideal fit, but it's quite malleable and now I find they usually just be squished into place without trimming
Comfort
- What blows my mind is how comfortable these are, with this amount of heel and arch support. I can get similar support from a custom made casted insole, but these cost 5X-15X the price, and they are so stiff I cannot run and I get knee pain due to the lack of padding. I can get a gel or comfort insole, but then I have no support. I was literally going to start modifying insoles myself, until I found these. I have purchased > 10 pairs in the past few years.
Please don't stop making these Sof Sole, you are my hero

These insoles fit perfectly inside my New Balance Training shoes, that are several years old, and made them feel like new shoes again. I love them and would buy them again.

I walk a lot: 1 to1 and 1/2 miles 6 days per week; have had at least 4 pairs of these inserts the last several years and they are the best! I don’t know what it takes to wear them out I just get a new pair for each new pair of walking/running shoes.

The insoles are quite comfotable however I cant get past the smell, never before have I had shoes that smelled until I began using these insoles which have caused several pairs of boots and sneakers to reek of Ammonia (think cat urine).

I bought 3 pairs; two for new shoes plus one for an anticipated pair to be bought. I have used one pair and am disappointed that they don't seem to give my high arches the support that I could feel in the red and yellow version. In fact, I am debating whether to keep the 2 extra pairs. Very disappointed with the change. I LOVED the old version!

I have used previous model blue/black and cushioning was amazing for my tenosynovitis in palm of my foot, now newer model is half as thick and doesn't absorb nearly as much impact... I don't recommend newer green or orange models - hope Sofsole addresses it in future as I'm buying other brands now. Shame. Another customer lost due to cost cutting on materials.

They have changed the insole since last time I purchased. New ones have ORANGE inliner and are thinner, therefore less cushion and support

I used these for years. Why have you ruined a good product by deceasing the thickness? Will have to go elsewhere

I threw them out after one run. If you have to trim them at all, they have a very uncomfortable arch

This version is fair, but the old version sofsole AIRR were the best. Yes they were thicker, and you needed to bring them with you when you tried on new shoes, but they were thicker and had the best comfort.

As someone who wears custom Orthotics in my work boots and store bought insoles in my hiking boots and all my other shoes these are by far the very worst. I have a fairly narrow foot & these are so incredibly narrow that the inside edge around the ankle bites right into my foot. I even tried cutting them down & it just made it worse. Get Superfeet or anything else instead.

I bought a pair of these from Dick's Sporting Goods. The one that goes in my right boot fits fine and is fairly comfortable, but the one in the left boot is too small and incredibly uncomfortable. I can not believe I wasted 40 dollars on these things.

I was a die hard Sofsole user for years but there is a difference between the older insoles and the new ones You had the perfect insole but the changes have made me have to look elsewhere. The new insoles don't seem to fit right and are a lot less comfortable. Change is not always good!

Old version was great. New version is too thin to help the pain in ball of my foot.
