This duffle changes the game. I was in the market for a new duffle and when I saw the Transporter advertised, I knew it would be the one. My initial thought when I first got to touch this thing was "Wow, this material is fantastic!". You really have to touch it to see what I mean. The TPU coating (thermoplastic polyurethane) is awesome and gives it a "this thing will hold up to anything" feeling.
All of the zippers, straps, and handles are built with great quality. You can tell they will last a very long time.
The main compartment is massive and, when organized correctly, will hold a TON of gear. It is built with compression straps inside to help contain and compress your gear to add more space.
The fact that you can transform this into a backpack is great. I used it for a trip to Chicago and when walking around the airport, the backpack function made it simple to carry around. You can get the backpack straps out and connect them in just a few seconds.
If you are someone who appreciates innovation matched with fantastic quality, look no further than the Osprey Transporter 40! You will not be disappointed!

Of the bags available in NZ that I could find, this has the best match to the features I wanted, which was: a durable travel bag capable of taking 3-4 days of clothes for a business trip, carry on ability (which it seems to manage, though it looks big), capacity between 35-40ish litres; good handles, backpack straps, good zips, some form of compression and a couple of pockets.
It looks smart, I got the black one and for business trips it doesn't look out of place at all, in fact with the shoulder straps hidden it looks very clean.
I'd be happy I think carrying a weeks worth of clothing in this for business as it has the room, although I pack light.
If I could change anything it would be the following (none of these are deal breakers for me they are just tweaks I'd like):
- inside mess pocket its at the bottom of the bag when using as a backpack, I'd have put it at the top near the shoulder straps so there is no risk of compressing what in it if you but the bag end down.
- the shoulder strap clips diagonally across the top of the bag, I'd prefer it diagonally across the side, which is less wide and would sit better, when carrying while giving you direct access to a side handle when taking the bag on or off your shoulder.
- inside retention/compression straps, which are OK, but a bit fiddly...you have to fish about for them, They do however work well. I think I'd prefer external side compression straps on the bag like TNF do...wouldn't be as tidy though.
- lastly the rucsac harness straps could do with end clips to stop them flapping about in a breeze (but really not a big issue)

I recently purchased the Transporter 40 and although not exactly as described in the video (perhaps mine is an older model????) it is undoubtedly the most versatile and comfortable backpack I own. As an avid camper/kayaker and traveller, this model has many, many useful applications. What I particularly like is that it can be either worn as a backpack or carried as a small duffle depending upon your preference, and particularly handy for airline travel - it definitely meets airline carry-on size requirements. A feature not referenced in the video but worthwhile mentioning is the fact that when worn as a backpack, the rear of the pack has no visible zippers that could be opened without your knowledge which is very handy when in crowds. Instead, access to the interior is managed via the zippers that are against your back and which by the way, are unnoticeable to the wearer given the flaps that cover them. I like the security this provides but obviously, should a thief wish to slice the pack open from behind, well that's a whole other issue!
When kayaking on weekend or day trips, the tab system on the pack allows me to secure it without fear of it becoming dislodged in rough water or in the event I have to do an Eskimo roll. Again, since my pack is not identical to the Transporter 40 shown in the video, I would classify it as water resistant, not waterproof.

Downright the best duffel there is. I was after a slightly more user friendly gym-bag for daily usage and this ticks all the boxes. You get excellent access through the wide opening, above standard organisation with the various pockets, fantastic durability, easy carry with backpack-style and as one expects from Osprey - amazing quality and workmanship. This duffel will do the job for a long time to come. I know some people have said, that you don't have a shoulder strap and that there are no D-rings etc. For me this represents no down-side - of course this is a personal preference.

Just got this pack, overall very impressed with the workmanship. 40 L is smaller than I expected, but I just managed to pack two dress shirts, six t-shirts, one sweater, a pair of chinos and a pair of jeans, plus a week of socks and underwear with enough room for a dopp kit, charger, and Nexus 7 and two medium sized paperbacks. My biggest complaint is that the D-rings heavily mentioned in the ad copy (" D-ring attachments for an optional shoulder strap") are not present on my model. Considering the relatively narrow backpack straps (necessary to pull double duty as duffel-style handles), not having a sturdy place to connect a comfortable shoulder strap is a big negative for me.

Fantastic Bag! I purchased this to act as my primary bag for a 3 week, warm weather trip. It worked great, the 40 liter was small enough to fit in the overhead of small commercial planes (they have even smaller requirements than typ carry-on and I wanted to avoid having to gate-check a traditional roller bag). I use packing cubes so the minimal open interior was a huge plus. I was able to fit 2 medium cubes, 1 small cube, extra shoes, toiletries (including a travel hair dryer), some of my tech stuff and other odds and ends.
The materials seem to be extremely durable and the zippers and straps are sturdy. I never worried about smushing it into an overhead or setting it down on the ground etc.
I am looking forward to taking it on future adventures!

we have 5 of these in dark blue, aqua, black, red, and grey. They are our bag of choice for weekend trips and 3 day destinations when flying. Stores a ton of stuff and really allows you to get through the airport quickly. When the whole family travels we each have one and it makes packing up easy. The only suggestions would be a bit more padding on the shoulder straps, but otherwise its a phenomenal bag.

The bag comes in its own bag with mesh side and zipper. Perfect size for shoes. I didn't see this in the description. I was thrilled when I saw it.
This is the Transporter 40 which is perfect carry-on size. Now to decide which larger one to add.

This is one of the best travel bags I have ever bought. It is simple and versatile, I am constantly traveling for short durations and this bag has allowed me to travel in comfort. I originally bought this bag for my wife and after seeing how useful and durable it is I end up buying one for myself and will buy one for my daughter as she is constantly traveling out of town.

I absolutely love it! It works for city hopping and traveling on minivans in Laos. I don't worry about it being thrown around or man-handled because the material is so durable. Fits carry-on size in Asia. Even though it was overweight, they didn't question me about it at all because of the size. The interior is one big pocket and I'm surprised at how much I could fit into it. I had to pack for work nter going to tropical and into cool weather. 2 large Eagle creek compression sacks, and 2 medium sized ones (one compressed), plus 3 filled MEC xs small pouches. 1 pair sandals and shoes.

Carry all motorcycle bag, able to carry all I need for m/c travel and work. I ride m/c as daily ride so I carry some m/c gear and a sport coat for work, court and meetings, files ,books etc.
Waterproof ,portable it does it all for me.
All the straps and attachment points let me use bike chain locks to secure it to m/c or unlock and carry it into court, meetings or wherever
Best bag of all the bags I own,and I got a few!

Hands down the best duffel bag ever. We went on family safari and these bags were critical during our trip. Very comfy backstops that easily tuck away during travel.
Stellar bag!

We are a family of four traveling Southeast Asia (4 months). We first bought one Transporter 40L and one Fairview 40L to travel and hold all of our gear for the 4 months of travel. Before leaving the states we returned the Fairview and bought another Transporter 40L. We are two months into our travel across Vietnam and the Transporter has held up very well and is extra tough. I'm very surprised this pack is not mentioned more in top rated packs for long term travel. It actually has more packing space than the Fairview and Farpoint.

I just bought this bag to use for travel. However I think that this could become an everyday bag for me. I found the straps very comfortable to use in the various positions and the bag and zippers are very sturdy. The bag is strong yet light and the space is very usable. I only wished that the main opening was 180 the other way. With the current position, when you are carrying the bag as a backpack, there is a chance that the zipper can work it's way down accidentally over time. However, most people would not carry the bag that way for an extended period of time, so that should not be a big risk. Definitely recommend this bag.

Great bag for daily activities or short trips. Solid construction and spacious. Multiple (3) smaller pockets are helpful for organizing and top pocket is great for quick access to rain gear or jacket.
Main zipper was a little tough to open and close and a shoulder strap option would have been nice. My primary objection is the thin straps which become uncomfortable if lugging around a full pack all day.
Overall a good option.

Really like this versatile and do all duffel
I don't use the grab handles as shoulder straps as they aren't overly comfortable for a long haul, good for quick trips
I use this to organize my bike gear and short overnight trips
Lots of pockets and stash options- makes it easy to organize and keep track of my gear
Lightweight but super durable and easy to clean

This is my daily go to bag for gym visits, to multi sport events or simply weekends away.
Pros:
+ Great zippered "top" pocket holds wallet, keys, phone, sunglasses easily.
+ Large internal space holds all my stuff.
+ Carry handles convert into really comfortable shoulder straps for hands free movement.
+ Beefy U zip inspires confidence.
+ Inside mesh pocket holds smaller items.
+ Inside colours add brightness to the day
Cons:
- Side zippered pocket could be bigger to hold two water bottles comfortably.

I use this pack almost daily. From gym clothes/accessories to travel. Even with just 40L I find that I am able to pack for 7+ days if planned correctly. It's a great pack for air travel as you can easily tighten the harness straps and tuck away the excess web for storage and quickly extend the harness to put the pack back on.

The bag is great for work. Heavy loads though cause the bag to squeak. Shoulder strap connectors are 2 pieces that now separate easily causing the bag to fall off my shoulder. Thought it was just a faulty piece on one side but now both sides of the strap slip out of the connection.

Just received this.
I am a shoulder strap guy for duffels and this doesn't come with one.
While I knew that going in, they advertise d rings for attaching.
There are no d rings,
Only things they offer is a fabric loop, which seems poorly suited for the load of a shoulder strap.
Seems it would not last long.
A pain to have to return
Its nice otherwise, bit a crucial omission.
Marmot offers an alternative
