I just spent 2 months backpacking Europe and this backpack held my entire life all through 12 different countries. It was comfortable when I got the straps adjusted correctly, fit in the compartments that it needed to, and I was able to stuff it full to fit so much more than I thought I would be able to. It has great compartmentalizing pockets and the straps on the outside are handy too. I was impressed by how well this backpack held up through the rough situations it was in. Highly recommend this backpack.

I just returned from three weeks in South America, using this pack as my primary luggage. The other pack was a small Osprey ultra light for only my purse type things and daily outings. Fully packed the Fairview 40 weighed 18 pounds and was the perfect carryon for every plane trip taken and one of those was on a very small plane with strict weight restrictions. I could not have asked for a better travel companion than the Osprey Fairview 40 and four packing cubes. I was always organized, always ready and could handle the pack on my back, with a shoulder strap or using the handles. The Osprey was even complimented by a guide. Great pack for any kind of travel!

Overall I think this is an amazing pack with some nice features. I bought this to be a combination pack for use as both a carry on pack for flights and a camping pack for long weekends. I just finished my first trip with it and it performed really well. It easily fits in the overhead bin and the zip up cover keeps the straps neatly out if the way and makes the pack very sleek. I also really appreciated the messenger bag strap. It made it easy to slip through the aisle and to quickly grab it from the car and go. The handle straps are also well placed for the same purpose. I was able to fit everything that I needed for a five day trip and could have probably taken a few extra things if needed. For my needs the different compartments were laid out perfectly. My only two complaints would be that the water bottle pockets are in an odd place and you have to choose between the bottom cinch strap or carrying a bottle. I would have also liked it if the messenger bag strap had a padding piece for when you are standing in a line for a long time. Overall, I would definitely buy it again and I expect it will last for a long time.

I bought this backpack in 2019 for my trip to Japan. This was my only luggage for 3 weeks of travel in the Fall for that Japan trip. It was amazing! It was so comfortable on my back as we ran to catch trains or going from one gate to the next. Took only this again for my camping trip in November of 2021 and my trip to Hawaii a week later. Perfect for carry-on (we've only used Delta when flying so far.) I have plans to return to Japan for a Winter trip for a whole month. We'll be flying Air Canada. I'm excited to push this bag to the limit. I'm confident it'll be great. I have one con. It's not setup very well to carry a larger laptop(15-17in.). I don't feel like the laptop would be safe given the sleeve design and placement. It would be great for a tablet maybe. Although, it's not a serious concern for me.

This is a great size, getting ready to try it out. Packing it light for carryon bag. Seems to be a better size and design than the Osprey 30.

I've used this bag on multi-week trips across the USA, Europe, Central America, and Asia. It is so comfortable and practical. Never had an issue with size with any budget airline. I can fit more than a similar sized hardshell suitcase because of the layout and it's become by go to. I have a daypack I carry in front with phone, wallet, keys, etc. and because of that there was no point in getting the 55, of which the extra capacity is in the daypack (minimalist daypack, so so imo).

I Went to Italy on a 10 day tour and I've always traveled with a carry on. I decided this time to travel with a carry on backpack and it was the best decision ever. I walked through Italy from train stations to hotel with no problems. Hands free and fast.

I love to travel to Europe multiple times a year (pre-pandemic, obviously) but am a CARRY ON ONLY sort of gal. I bought this after my first time lugging wheeled luggage around Italy - no thank you, never again. I've used it on several trips, the longest being 11 days in Greece in the winter, and it's spectacular! It's held up very well over the years and I have seen no fraying or other issues. It fits my packing cubes perfectly (I have the ebags small/med 4 piece set) and it's exactly the right size for a couple weeks away without having to do laundry. I've managed to sneak it through as a carry on when everyone else had to check their carryons, so bonus there. It's relatively comfortable to carry and the number of pockets are good. I love that you can zip up the straps into a compartment for the plane - no tangling involved. If I could change one thing, it would be nice to be able to add a daypack to it, but you cannot. It's definitely not a dealbreaker though. I plan to use it for years to come!

So, to begin with, in all my years of travel I have never gone without a suitcase. My daughter and I went to French Polynesia and wanted to pack a minimum amount for a change. I reviewed many and even odered a different brand but whe this pack arrived, I was sold. I am 5'2" 130 and this pack fit me like a glove. Because of past back surgery, I tried to keep it at around 20 lbs. After packing everything, I had plenty of spaces left unused just because of the weight factor. This pack was very comfortable. The waist support felt like it was made for me and I felt like a turtle with my little house on back. It was easy to carry on and also on return when we check bags in, it was nice to hide the straps and zip it up. Such a cool pack and I made the perfect choice. I'll be looking at another Osprey for day hikes.

Excellent quality. Plenty of space (imo). The green was out of stock so I got the Misty Grey and i love it. It's somewhat of a mossy green. Can't wait to pack it for Europe!

I travel what you might call "incessantly", and I've been hunting for a travel pack that can keep up with me for ages. I'm also pretty tall (5'11"), and every other pack I've tried on has sat a little weird on me. The fact that this is super adjustable makes a huge difference. It's already been on a 3 week trip all over Europe, and it's coming on a 3.5-month lap of the globe here soon. The fact that it unzips all the way makes a huge difference, and the fact that the straps can be zipped away is fantastic if (god forbid) you're forced to check your bag. I highly recommend this one.

My wife and I were searching packs to begin our traveling adventures of a minimalistic carry-on lifestyle. This pack has not disappointed. The dimensions online, do not do justice to how much space this bag can actually hold - and if utilizing compression bags, it makes this pack even better. The ability of adjustment to a women's body is outstanding. A lot of thoughtful consideration went into this pack. As a bonus, I went to a third party outdoor store to take a look at the backup, up close, prior to my purchase - I noticed the pack only came in "small/medium" - I definitely needed something bigger to make the waist strap more comfortable. I called the Osprey customer service line, and even prior to purchasing the bag, they stated the would be able to send me an "extender" to make the waist buckle more comfortable. Even though the bag should itself, the ONE UP in customer service pushed me over the edge to not make my purchase that day - and directly purchase off of their website. Highly highly recommend.

A friend bought this for me as a gift. I'm a 15 year high school student and I am a size XS weighing under 110 pounds. My school books weigh about 17 pounds and my back was really hurting. My brother knew that a hipbelt and chest strap would better distribute the weight of my books. So we chose the Fairview 40 based on the amount of stuff I had and all of the pockets/accessibility. It was an excellent choice. I think my back will thank me in the years to come. The gray is more like Olive Green but it is a good color. I would recommend this backpack for students who want to take care of their spines.

To travel as a couple we got the Farpoint and Fairview 40. Super easy to pack. The support structure spreads the weight out so effectively they're very comfortable. Others talked about the laptop sleeve being problematic but we don't take one with us so I can't speak to that. Also we didn't experience the water bottle difficulties others did. We put the bottle of the water bottle in the mesh and ran the compression strap through the top of the bottle and it worked very well. The only downside we saw was that the material on the back keeps you pretty warm and sweaty backs are frequent- but I think that's true of most packs. Love these backpacks! We're excited to keep using them.

I just coming back from a family trip to the Riviera Maya, I had the Fairview 40, and my husband had the Farpoint 40 It was a charm to carry, and didn't had any trouble to fit them into the overhead bin on the plane. We didn't had any issue with the airline (Air Transat) about the carry-on size restrictions as well. The packs were comfortable with 22 lbs of cargo and goods. We packed for a week long trip into an all-inclusive resort, and we managed to pack with minimalism in mind. Didn't bring too mutch things, and was able to bring back some mayan gifts and souvenirs. Also, I could clip my farpoint 55 day pack turtled up with my Fairview, so I could be hand-free when check-in and boarding the plane. So far, these are the best travel luggages we ever had, and we're very pleased with our purchases.

After packing a GR2 as a 5'1 female for two weeks in Europe, the Fairview 40 xs/s is leagues above for my needs. The pack is lightweight, plenty of zippered pockets/storage, narrower for the shoulders/torso, and the pack sits a tad higher on your back than typical packs. The hip/waist belt helps distribute the weight and there's no interference in the front from any of the straps on the female chest. I could easily pack 2+ weeks out of this pack, and still not use up all the space offered. I do not carry a laptop for travel, but the laptop sleeve is located towards the middle of the bag. The bag fully opens and everything is easily accessible. The misty grey is a neutral olive/grey and beautifully done with teal interior.

This pack does the trick for an overnight backpacking trip, but you're really having to stuff your items. I think the inside space could be designed to fit more given it's size. That being said, I used this very frequently in travels around Europe and on short trips and it's very durable and easy to wear. A few of the buckles have broken but osprey will repair this, if you pay to send it off.

I purchased this to be a carry on option for trips. The pockets and storage were great but the fit was wrong. The hip belt was too high and fit more around my waist even though I used the Osprey sizing guide. I thought perhaps I got the smaller bag accidentally but it was marked as the larger size. For reference I’m 5’6” and 125# and of an average torso length (measured at 16” according to the chart). I returned it and ordered the men’s style (osprey farpoint) and am hoping it fits better.

Good quality fabric, large YKK zippers. The grab handles are especially beefy. Plenty of organization. I can see why this is an almost universally beloved favorite for travel.

Overall, this is a beautiful bag. I purchased this because my son had purchase one for his trip to Europe. I bought the olive green/light blue. Great organization, plenty of room. The only reason I am returning it is because at 5'1" it fits very strangely and very high on my back (even thought I got the XS/S).

This is a "women's version of Farpoint 40". The design is almost the same as Farpoint besides torso and hip belt lengths and shoulder straps are design to fit women's bodies better. I have compared them side by side and found Fairview is truly more comfortable to carry. However, it still keeps Farpoint's design weaknesses which are lack of hip belt pocket, away-from-the-body laptop sleeve, and hard-to-reach water bottle mesh pocket.

I did lots of research and chose this pack for the capacity and the fact that it is sized for women with smaller torsos and narrower shoulders than the average man. I like all of these things and the pack is very comfy in those regards. We are going to Patagonia and also on an Antarctica cruise. I will have high quality heavy camera gear so I bought this pack so I can trek around Patagonia or go see penguins on the ice with all my gear. However I am amazed and disappointed that the waist straps are so short, that they won't reach if I have some warmer clothing layers or a parka on. I will need warm clothes where i am going. I can only do the waist strap up with summer clothes and a light jacket. I am not skinny but not particularly fat either and rather petit. These straps were not a fluke as we checked others in the store. I reached out to Osprey with the "Almighty Warranty" (NOT) and they are not shipping to Canada at this time or doing warranty work (WHAT??) So it was on my time and my dime to try and cobble up some longer straps for a $200+ dollar back pack. So unless you never plan to go where you need some layered clothes and a warm jacket, or are as skinny as a rake, beware of those waist straps. Very disappointed in this as the cost to make them a couple inches longer would be minimal or non existent and it wouldn't affect the function of the pack at all if they were pulled tighter on a person. I paid a premium for this back pack and it has a major fixable flaw in the design.

After reading such great reviews, I really wanted to go with the Fairview. I am a 5'9.5" tall, small boned woman with a 17 1/2" torso length. According to ospreys sizing chart, I should have been able to fit into the xs/s or the s/m. However both were too small and uncomfortable. So I went to the Farpoint 40. Tried on both sizes in the Farpoint and found that the Farpoint 40 in the s/m was the most comfortable. It's disappointing because I really wanted the full 40 litres which I should have been able to get in the woman's Fairview 40 s/m, but since it pulls on my shoulders I am forced to go with the 38L men's Farpoint "40". I could also really use the more thoughtful shoulder pads of the Fairview as the Farpoint's feel too wide for me near the bottom. So it's not a perfect match for me but hoping for success in an upcoming trip. Just wanted to post to help other ladies in a similar situation. The Farpoint might be your answer.

I own a Porter 46 and a wheeled Ozone 36,both in black. They're both great bags, but not quite perfect. I would buy the Fairview in a heartbeat IF it had these two things: laptop sleeve next to the straps/next to my back, instead of out in front; and a black option in this women's model. PLEASE redesign this bag so the laptop compartment is along the backpanel like in the Porter, and make it in black! THANKS

I bought this pack to carry on both car trips and air travel. I like that it opens like a suit case and I can fit a lot in it. I do not like how unbalanced this pack is when loaded. All weight seems to sit at the top. I also have trouble adjusting this pack to carry very far.
