These are the boots for which I have been searching for all of my adult life. Finally, at 44 years old, I have been graced with the perfect boot. I have narrow feet and slender calves, and if I lace them pretty much closed, it is a snug fit all the way up. The rubber stacked heel gives a little lift without going into "high heel" territory, but more importantly, gives excellent shock absorption on city pavement. The toe bed is the most ideal combination of round and almond, so it doesn't make my feet look clownish but still has plenty of room for my toes. The tongue stays put - none of that weird stuff that tongues on tall boots usually pull (where they are wrapped around to the back of my calf 1/2 hour after I put them on). Absolutely zero breaking in process - they fit like they were always mine. Lastly, they are GORGEOUS! Oxblood red, quality leather and deeply saturated dye. So far I have walked in the city, picked figs in the country, and just sat and stared and admired them at home. I think the traction on the footbed will keep me upright should I get stuck going uphill in the rain off the beaten path! About my feet: size 8.5 to 9, narrow heel and high arch, regular toe spread. I bought a size 40. Trying to figure out budget to get another pair in black, because I think it wise to know a good thing when one sees it and buy stock so I have a back up pair!

This boot is gorgeous. I was torn between the black and the red. I was worried the red would be too bright but it was a deep rich red, not too bright but definitely not a brown red. They definitely add interest to any outfit and I am glad I did pick the red. As with most boots with European sizing I found I had to go up a size to a 39. I normally wear a 7.5 shoe and an 8 in athletic shoes. The 38 would have been very snug and too small as soon as I put on thick socks. The 39 is a bit roomy but not so much that my feet slide around, and I can wear really thick socks without my feet feeling cramped. I did take out the insole, I love that it is removable. I need serious arch support so I added my own insole. The insole that came with it does offer moderate support, but the construction of it leaves me to think it would flatten considerably after a few month of wear. The lining in the calf is a soft faux fur of sorts, I have small ankles and calves and the boots did have some extra room even with jeans tucked in but it still looked nicely fitted. If you are hesitant to buy these, just do, you probably won't regret it. I would love to get them in black also but I have hit my boot budget for the year. Would love to see these in a green, grey or blue. For those that are picky about where there shoes are made, the red are stamped as made in Portugal.

I bought a pair in red and I love them. I normally wear a 38/ 7.5 to 8 but decided to size up to the 39/ 8 to 8.5. They are a bit roomy but I think if I had gone with my regular size 38 they would have been too snug. I have enough room in them to add my own inserts and wear some pretty thick socks with them. Very comfortable and they have been very durable. I have used them to trudge through knee deep snow and they kept my feet warm and dry and retained their color nicely with only minimal color bleeding. I hope to wear these in the summer too but since they do have a warmer lining I might not wear them as much. I went back and purchased these in black too and don't regret either purchase. I hope they get released in new colors next fall because this is one of my favorite and most comfortable boot styles I own.

I must confess that I am a bootaholic. I love boots in all colors and styles and these boots are so cool! This is my first pair of Taos and they are very comfy right out of the box! The quality seems very good and they are a sturdy and heavier shoe than I usually wear but I love them. I plan on purchasing the shorter Crave boot in the future.

I love this shoe! I purchased the Crave tall boot in black and it was comfortable just as soon as I put it on. I wore them around the house all day just to make sure they were really comfy and let me tell you....I cleaned house in them, went up and down staircase in them, cooked dinner in them, walked dog in them and reluctantly had to take them off to get into bed. I may have to get the Crave in the short boot to satisfy my need for a colorful version.

I usually wear a size 11.5, so I was already a bit wary of purchasing this in size 42 (says it's 11-11.5), but I went for it anyway. Sadly, they are way too small on my feet - they honestly feel a full size smaller. Sometimes I can squeeze my feet into an 11, but there was no way this was happening. It's too bad they don't offer a 43 like they do in the shorter version of this boot...

I have feet issues (flat feet, plantar fascitis, etc) and I thought that given the exceptional reviews, these boots would be ideal. How disappointed I am now!!! The are way too hard on the heel area, too stiff and too narrow, (and I don't have wide feet nor calves) feeling more like an 11(N) than an 11(M), toe area doesn't let you spread the toes normally and the heel area put way too much pressure on the sides of the heels. These are not flexible and there is little to no shock absorption when walking. For this amount of money one expects perfection right out the box, but they are very far from that. They will make your feet ache if you, like me, have any type of foot condition. Truly Disappointing!!!

I feel like whoever designed this boot looked deeply into my soul and drew out the perfect boot for me, the boot I have been searching for for 20 years, and frankly I feel just a little bit creeped out by it, Taos. Wow. Back off. Except, I love them. These have everything I wanted and a thing or two I didn't know I wanted. They are mid-calf - not too tall for my short girl legs, and not too short. They lace up so they fit my athletic-tending calves. They are zip up so they go on and off quick. The color is this amazing deep garnet red, so they don't scream "IM A RED BOOT!!!", they just state it matter of fact-ly and get on with their lives. "What of it? I know I am gorgeous and you want me, but I've got things to do." Moving on. The heel is just high enough to give me a boost in height without being or feeling like a high heeled boot. The insole is removable, and while it is comfortable, if I take it out there is room in there for my Birkenstock insoles, or my Naot insoles. I love the fact that they are not all one solid color. There's shades of depth when I look at them. I wanted a perfect all day casual boot that I could wear to work where I am on my feet much of the time, and with leggings. And that's what I got. But make no mistake. These boots with a dress would be a knockout punch. But without the pain. And they have this soft fuzzy lining on the inside next to my foot, so I don't have to wear socks if I don't want to. They arrived this morning at work and I put them on and left them there all day. I walked a lot and they did not once, in the whole day long, bite or pinch or fold into my ankles, or stand too close to my toes, or make me feel smothered. They appear to be well made, and sturdy, and I could go hiking in them. These are good boots. We are going to be friends for a long time.

I always wear a size 6 and the 37 is perfect with room for thick wool socks. These boots are SOOO beautiful, they are even more awesome/gorgeous in person. Super comfortable for long days on my feet and a durable rugged sole and nice thick distressed leather uppers. The garnet is so much more than I expected in looks, I’ve attached photos next to my bright red curio for comparison but the color is still off in the photo. They are actually a deep almost wine red which looks amazing with black leggings/jeans. I have very thin legs and these lace up perfectly to fit the way I like. I’d say these boots classify as looking artsy rugged or polished cool. They are my absolute favorite out of my collection and I have tried them all- Frye/bedstu/ariat/teva/born etc etc. Boots are my addiction and these are perfection!

These shoes have been on my Favorites list for the last year, but the price always stopped me. I kept waiting for them to drop but they didn't and I was in a boot shopping mood again, so I decided to splurge and got the Crave in Taupe Rugged. Usually I wear 35 in Dansko dress shoes/clogs, 36 in snow boots to allow room for socks, but after reading a bunch of reviews, and knowing my Taos "Renegade" boots (no longer available) runs small, I decided to get 37. I've NEVER purchased any shoes in size 37, not even when I was pregnant and had swollen feet, but I didn't regret buying these in 37. I love the look of the boots, I love being able to adjust the laces to fit around my calves, and because I prefer a bit more cushion, I added a Dr. Scholl's insole that had a cushiony heel but tapered to a thin tongue to leave room for the toes. So after doing that I am able to wear these boots with warm socks, and I can walk in them all day long. For this $$$ amount, some people would expect perfection out of the box, but my buniony picky feet have banished enough shoes back to Zappos that I fear they might banish me from their site, but I am extremely happy with these boots and don't regret getting them one bit. I get compliments every time I wear them, even once from my dermatologist - she was petite like me (almost 5') and she liked the look of them a lot. I've worn these with dresses, skirts, skinny jeans/pants and feel great in them. The laces are pretty long, and I notice the photos of boots on Zappos don't often show the laces out, but contribute to a "neat" appearance, so I've worn these with laces showing, and with laces tucked in. I've only owned 2 Taos boots and definitely think their sizing is off. Oh, and the first few times I wore them, I was dismayed to hear some squeaking when walking on linoleum floors at work, but this has since stopped after some wear thankfully, because that sound is like nails on a chalkboard to me! These reviews helped me a lot, so hopefully mine helps other women on a constant quest for cute but comfortable boots! As someone wrote, we deserve stylish comfortable shoes! There is no reason we should put our valuable feet through torture and pain in order to look good.

I bought the black, size 8. These boots are SO CUTE! I started getting compliments the first day I wore them. I can wear them over my skinny jeans or with rolled up boyfriend jeans. They fit well (not to boxy or clunky but not to pointy or tight) and have great support. They do not make my feet look big at all (unlike so many of the combat boot types). I love the look of lace up boots . But it is such a pain to lace up a boot every time to put them on and take them off. The combination of the zipper and the lace up resolves that problem (and the zipper is barely noticeable). These are my favorite boots now.

I knew a person who used to sell shoes for a living, and she told me that a good pair of shoes should not need to be broken in - I don't even remember her name, and I might recognize her face, but I will never forget *that* - good shoes don't need to be broken in... These boots did not need a breaking in walk at all - I put them on and went. Glorious. They feel as though there is more shock absorbed (I am a "heavy stepper") than the short Crave. I did notice that wearing thicker socks made the toe feel tighter - thinner socks provided the perfect space. I would recommend good thin wool socks for warmth and space in the boot. That is the ONLY thing I noticed. I think the black boots would look good with anything - they are the most beautiful soft black color - just beautiful boot. And they felt just as good at the beginning of the day that they did at the end. Love these so much - WORTH THE PRICE!

Returning these boots hurt my soul. They were beautiful, extremely well made and was everything I was looking for. The reason why I returned these were because I wear between a size 4.5-5 and even with thick socks, my foot had way too much play for the 5-5.5 size. Taos, if you’re reading this, maybe offer a smaller size for us women with baby feet?

These are the most comfortable boots I have ever owned. They are high quality and sturdy, but still flexible and conforming. They took a day or two to break in, and now I want to wear them every day. The (cushy and comfortable) insert was at least a size too long when I received them, and didn't fit inside without buckling under my toes. I trimmed them to size, and now they're perfect. They are more expensive than I typically purchase, but I took a chance while they were on sale and they are definitely worth it. I plan on buying more colors. They are not insulated snow boots, and I don't know if they are waterproof. (I suspect that they are water resistant.) But sometimes I need higher protection in a foot or more of snow. These have great traction and work like a charm to keep my feet and legs protected and dry. I wear them throughout the day without needing to change back and forth between snow boots. These boots have definitely turned me onto the Taos brand.

These are just what I hoped for when I ordered them. I usually order a 7 wide (Clark’s)or 7 1/2 wide (new balance sneakers) 38 wide (dansko) to accommodate a bunion issue. Thanks to other reviews I read I ordered the 39 (8-8 1/2) med width and crossed my fingers. I’m delighted to report that the width and length are spot on. Wiggle room with my medium weight smart wool socks. My feet look slender and feel very comfortable with what I consider good arch support, too.

Great looking shoe - works great with my thin legs and ankles! These are comfortable and I love the zipper on the side, so I can adjust the laces for a perfect fit then easily put the boots on and take them off. I have narrow feet and these fit perfectly, but my regular size 39 felt a little snug in the toe area so I traded them in for a 40, which felt better. These are a little pricey for me but I think I will wear them a lot - it was totally worth it!

I love these boots. For whatever reason the right one felt a little tight. I removed the inserts (which are VERY nice and probably wonderful for most people) and put my Vionic inserts in because the toe box seemed cramped. The toe area of my Vionic inserts are thinner than the ones included with these boots and now the boots feel great. I love them so much. The narrow shaft is great so instead of looking slouchy, they are slimming and make my legs look longer. They are the same height as my Doc Martin 14 eye zip side boots which have been my favorite for a few years. I got the Taupe in the Taos and will probably add the Black, as my Docs are starting to show their age.

These are beautiful, well-made boots that immediately feel amazing. I'm a 6.5-7 narrow with high arches and the 37 was a little tight with thin socks. Luckily I also ordered the 38 upon reading the reviews that they run small. I think the 38 will be great: plenty of room in toe box and room to take out insoles and add my bulkier ones. I love it that the insoles come out and that the boots have a zipper. Soles seem slip-resistant and will find out tomorrow after this snowstorm hits because I can't wait to wear them!

I am in serious like with these boots. They have it all - style, comfort, and more style! I wore them for three days in a row, no socks and no problems. The leather is both soft and sturdy. the lacing system will let you adjust the width of the calves if you need to do so - I made them skinnier. The soles are sturdy and seem likely to do well in slippery conditions (we are a few weeks away from that). I bought them for a costume but with the plan to wear them otherwise and they are worth every penny.

I bought these because they are real leather and I was looking for a boot that went just to mid calf. These are exactly what I wanted! The leather is of great quality and the shoe is comfy straight out of the box.....except, they are slightly large and for my foot and the back part slides on my heel when I walk. I'm usually a solid size 7 and I ordered the size 38 which says it is 7-7.6 US. I don't want to use a bulkier sock as I want to be able to wear them in the summer and I'm worried if I go a size smaller they will be too small. My foot just happens to be somewhere in between. These boots are of great quality and I believe worth their cost, I just want them to fit my foot better since I plan to wear them often. Will return and probably order the smaller size and keep my fingers crossed.

Such a cute boot! Words cannot describe how much I love them. The taupe color is perfect with jeans or black leggings. Their just a little retro vibe works well. And the lace gives just enough give for my somewhat wide calves.
