I have dealt with Achilles Tendonosis for almost two years and haven't been trail running in that period of time :( . Transitioning to Zero-drop/natural-shape shoes is part of my treatment (one that has worked anyway), and I am gearing toward getting back to trail running. Most trail runners in this style have too thin of an outsole for me at this point in my treatment. I can walk fine in Lems and Escalantes, but getting back into running I need something more substantial. My other complaint with most running shoes (even barefoot style ones) is that they have too high of an arch on the lateral edge. This design choice baffles me. Most people have a substantial inner arch, not lateral. Both Merrells and most Altras I have returned for this reason. It ends up causing quite a bit of pain in an area where I had none previously and makes my foot pronate more than what is normal. Altra Superiors looked perfect, but I found them to have too pronounced of a lateral arch and also too rigid of a sole. I nearly tried Lone Peak's but read about their questionable durability. When I saw the Timp was coming out, I was excited by many of the design choices and ordered a pair as soon as they were available. I have only hiked in these a few times over the past month, not yet any running. But I am very pleased with the traction, cushioning, and durability of them so far. I hiked in them in the King Range coast in California and in the Central Oregon High Desert, and they did an amazing job of keeping out sand/dirt (vastly superior to my Lems in this regard), but still very breathable. There is a very slight lateral arch, but very minor and has not been a problem. I am very excited to run in these in the muddy hills of Forest Park in the fall/winter. Due to its reflectivity and gaiter attachment, I might consider them as my winter bike commuter shoes, assuming the dry easily. My one complaint has to do with a combination of sizing and lacing. Most sites (including Altra's) claim this model runs true to size. I would follow that of other reviewers and go a 1/2 size up instead. I wear 11 1/2 in most shoes, and I wish I had gone up to a 12. The odd thing is, it's snug on TOP of my big toe, as though there isn't enough room above it in the Timp, as opposed to in front of it. I have this issue with my Escalantes as well and ended up taking the insole out for a perfect fit. But those are a very flexible mesh. The Timp has a hard rubber toe cap which is inflexible and cramps top of my big toe. Removing the insole was a little better, but not as cozy and made my heel feel a bit loose. I then realized the Timp's lacing system actually PULLS the material over the big toe - basically cinching the big toe up toward the tongue, which I think is more the root of the problem (also encouraging toe-spring). I ended up re-lacing them, leaving the front two spots open, so that it laces AROUND my foot - the way a lacing system should. It certainly looks cool, but I hope they design this with a more normal lacing pattern in future versions. Otherwise the Timp is near-perfect for my needs.

Great shoe - ordered 1/2 size larger for extra room in toe box. Zappos has the greatest customer service of any web store. Changed to larger 1/2 larger shoe size. Will do all my business with Zappos.

The styling of these shoes deserves more stars to rate them.. The fit of the shoe is “glove-like” without them feeling suffocating like I’ve found in other trail runners and the insole/outsole are designed as such to give a mid-forefoot runner like me cushioning and support as well. Some will also find that the zero drop design will help fight shin splints because they help from over extension of the ankle. Amazing shoe!

Great shoes!! Super padded and comfy. Great width too. Wish Altra would stick with this platform - the new model Timp 1.5 seems narrower and I can't wear them - but this older Timp Trail model is great.

Great product, I haven't put many miles on it but the feel is great. My feet are very wide and this shoe fits great. Also, looks like they have taken care of the side blow out issues I have had with other styles. Too bad it is begin retired.

Most comfortable shoe I can remember having put on. Felt "broken in" immediately, but with the support and cushion of a new shoe. The lacing style also allows the shoe to open up completely making them very easy to get on, but holding the shoe securely to your foot when laced (no slipping out of these!). They were a great and rare find as they fit both my narrow heel and wide toe area. Only gripe is the (too) tall stiff heel cup which feels like it pushes up on my ankle bones esp. on uneven ground (ie: trail running), though no injuries yet.

This really is the sweet spot between the Lone Peak and Olympus; more lovely cush ride than the former and retains more injury preventing foot flex and ground sense than the latter. LOVE that they brought back the trail rudder in this rudimentary form - perfect, really helps on downhills I think. I size 1/2 down to bomb steep fast technical downhills. This fits great, just keep those toenails trimmed if doing that! Was not sure about the tread at first but day 1 was a real wet day so hard to judge rock and root purchase on such a day.Keep this shoe going Altra, a great addition, maybe your best trail shoe. Have run many ultras in these and it will be my new go to, though still use the Lone Peaks for short training runs. Hope I don't run into upper durability issues like others, that is my only concern

I can't wear the womens Altras-too narrow and I have a couple men's in 8's which are a little too big, but the 7's tended to feel narrow. These however in a 7 feel just right! I am so thrilled, please don't narrow these like some of the others are. I plan on buying another pair!

This is the best trail shoe to date. Had been using the Lone Peak but this one just fits my foot better. I have over 200 miles on thes including a 50k with over a mile elevation change and 9 water crossings. They drained well and no sock change was required. Will get the new model when they come out.

Very comfortable right out of the box. I’m coming from Altra Superiors so these are different but not in a bad way. They are comfortable and the traction is great!

I've put about 200 miles on this shoe and absolutely love it. I hear people complain about durability and the lace system, but I absolutely love it. This is my favorite Altra by far. My favorite things about the shoe are the nice big toe box and the sole. A ton of room in the toe box and the sole grips to everything extremely well. I haven't had any durability issue like others have noted. I have a 50k race in two days and look forward to using it. I will definitely buy these again.

I am a sufferer of plantar fasciitis. I've had foot surgery...a year later I'm in my Timps and crushing miles. These shoes are super comfy and I feel great in them. I bought a second pair to wear around the house since I love them so much!

Love these sneakers! I have wide feet and usually need wide width shoes. I also suffer from bunions. I am a nurse and on my feet all day, these shoes have made a huge difference ! They have a wide toe box so my feet can relax normally and feel no pressure. They are like walking on cushions. I usually wear Hoka Clifton, these Altras are my new favorite! This is my second pair . I will be buying these from now on.

I love this shoe! I actually wear my Timps more for casual than I do for running. Durability had been fantastic! Love the asymmetrical lacing system as it doesn't cause the upper to bunch up at the front for those of us with lower volume feet. Tread has held up much better than I expected. The cushion is more firm and supportive. The upper is probably the most durable of any pair of Altras I have owned (12 different pairs of Altras). Only downfall is this is the heaviest pair of Altras I have owned. I generally use for hiking and casual wear but do get in a few running miles, both trail and pavement. These are my go to when my feet are tired and achy and I feel like they could use that cushioned support.

I typically wear a 8 4E shoe, wide fore foot, nl volume, narrow heel. These in 8.5 fit perfectly! I use these to run, trail run, tread mill run, and light hike. They are perfect. Feel like a cushion shoe, wide outsole give it stability on uneven ground, tread has traction for days. It is a do it all shoe.
