My husband loves these. We had to go a size up, so we're exchanging, but he likes the look and the arch support. He'll probably put his own insoles in there, so I'm not sure whether they'll be as warm as they are with the wool insoles.

Despite being slightly clunky looking, these boots fit well and appear to be well made. The side gussets are made from a flexible material that appears to be capable of keeping water out. It is not just regular elastic. I have not tested the waterproofness yet, though. The heel is shaped in such a way that they do not slip when you walk, as long as you have the right size. The width is generous so you don't feel cramped when your foot swells after a long day. The flexibility of the collar allows good ankle movement and the toe box is bluntly shaped to avoid tight spots.

My husband loved the look of this boot. He asked who made it as I was handing it to him. I told him, and he said sadly, "Oh." Put it on, and said, "Yeah. Just like Woolrich always has been -- no padding anywhere." And took it off. I put it back in the box, and am returning it.

I’ve been looking for a boot with decent tread for walking in the snow that doesn’t look like a work boot. I’ve looked at hundreds of boots here, and tried two that were poor a poor fit. So I was excited to try these boots since they looked like they met my criteria. First the good news: they run true to size, but are narrower than they look in the pictures here. I have wide feet, so these are a bit on the narrow side for me. They’re well made, have great chunky soles, and are easy to pull on and off. The bad news is that for some inexplicable reason there’s no padding on a sewn seam on the back of the heel. On my first walk I ripped the skin off both ankles - very painful. The reason is they the stitches that run across the back of the heel are quite prominent and abrasive. I took the boots to my cobbler who was able to smooth the inner heel, but I’m going to have to wait a few weeks before my heels are “healed” before I can tell whether that solved the problem. So, buyer beware. Check the inner heel of the boot before wearing and take preventative measures.
