Got this coat just in time for the below zero temps in the Mid-Atlantic area. It did the job of keeping me warm.

After trying and buying 2 other winter coats for a Minnesota cold winter that has hovered near 0 degrees, I finally found a coat that will keep me warm as I trudge to classes at the University of Minnesota. So many compliments that are great to hear but honestly, I say them in my head and thank North Face for making this perfect coat!

I love this jacket! Purchased in early January to combat the Arctic temps we were experiencing on the East Coast. I have lived in this jacket almost everyday for two plus weeks and absolutely love it. It is a warm wind proof jacket and as a result somewhat bulky but, very comfortable. As other reviews state, the zipper is a bit difficult to use but, I don't mind fighting that a bit to stay warm.

Quite simply, I'm obese. At 315 lbs and 5 ft 10 in, I'm not fooling anybody. Despite this, I still do quite a bit outdoors and winters in Iowa demand good coats. To my pleasant surprise, the 3XL McMurdo Parka fits correctly, keeps me warm, and provides the range of motion I'd expect in a heavy parka! It has served me well walking across town and participating in outdoor events when it's 0F.
I am extremely satisfied with the durability and finish of this coat. I like that the sleeves are externally reinforced, and their internal compartmentalization ensures my arms are always surrounded by the right amount of insulation. I appreciate the positioning of the zippers (low but not too low) and the extra few inches of length so the coat covers my pant pockets when walking. The storm flap is thick and secured by snaps, which are a vast improvement over velcro (velcro storm flaps tend to catch and wreck my clothes when the coat is unzipped, so I'm glad for snaps!). The hood is surprisingly useful (remember to cinch it down!) and the built-in gaiter does an excellent job creating an air cushion around my face (I position it about an inch away from my nose and mouth). Most importantly, the whole thing just fits; the coat is big but not baggy and somehow manages to not be loose or tight despite the difference in girth between my upper and lower chest.
There are a few things I wish TNF would change in future versions of this coat. I wish the snaps on the storm flap were slightly larger (they are difficult to secure when wearing gloves, but otherwise are quite functional). I wish there was only one set of hand-warmer pockets positioned in between the current options (which are either too high or too low for use). I wish for an external upper breast pocket to stash my phone and wallet. I wish the hood gaiter was removable for washing.
TLDR: if you're a big guy and need a quality coat, don't be afraid to order and try this one out!

I live in the mountains of Boone, with winters down to 5 degrees and 20-30 MPH winds. This coat is SO much warmer than any other coat or ski jacket I own. It's long enough to cover upper thighs. I am 6'1" and weigh 162 lbs, lean athletic build; a size Medium fits perfect. They built a face gaitor into the inside of the hood, which can be pulled around to cover your nose/face if it's windy. Although this Parka has 550 down fill, it is warmer than my Tri-Climate with an aftermarket 600 down fill liner. Hand pockets are placed well; not really insulated, but separated from outside by three windproof layers, (coat shell and a pocket), so they feel OK. The hood has a detachable faux-fur strip- keeps the wind out, but gets in your eyes a bit. Real fur of any kind would probably stay out of my eyes, but hey, that's politics.
As to the zipper, it is a open top or bottom type, and it was a little hard to connect. A spray of silicone lube fixed that nicely. Still, TNF should upgrade the zipper.
Overall, it makes 30 minute walks in -10 wind chill feel fun. Get this parka!

I live in Arkansas, and lately we've had our share of freezing temperatures. (Most of our winter weather is jacket weather; I got the coat for days when the temperature dips below twenty.) The amount of warmth this coat provides on a bitterly cold day is almost uncanny, and it does the trick without feeling too heavy or restraining. The fur-lined hood looks stylish and does its job. Mastering the zipper took a few tries, but now it's second nature. I don't think a custom-tailored coat would fit me any better. This is a great piece of clothing, well worth the money.

With the weather dropping to below zero this coat was what the doctor ordered. It was extremely warm and the hood kept my head warm. I really like my new Northface.

I love this Parka. Its warm and comfortable to be in. I live in the Caribbean and travel quite often to the cooler climates. For me there is something i call the tropical chill factor. 15/19 C/F is considered 0/32 C/F. With this parka i don't need to have many layers so it reduces the packing for travel. Once on i am warm even on those windy days. No rainy days with it as yet but am confident that it will not disappoint when i do get a rainy, winter day.

I was procrastinating purchasing this coat last year so this year I took the plunge. I can truly say I have no regrets. The warmth this coat delivers is amazing. With global warming this coat with stand strong. I'm not worried about going out into the snow rain or cold. Truly if you need and dependable coat look no further..

I purchased this coat for my son. We have had a colder winter than we have seen in decades so far. He hates wearing coats but he loves the warmth of this coat and the fact that it is simple yet has style. I had to tell him that he did not need it earlier this week because the temperature had reached over 50 degrees. He loves wearing it every day. It was a great investment and a great Christmas gift. I wasn't sure he would wear a coat but I can't get him out of it!!

Nice and warm, wore it while walking in -26F wind chill this morning and didn't have a bit of a problem. My guess is this is probably the best coat you can get in the price range.

For Christmas I was gifted the MEN'S MCMURDO PARKA III. Honestly it is the best coat I have owned. It is great for the cold weather and keeping you warm. It fits great and even on windy days you stay warm.
Only slight negatives are the zippers don't always work properly (but there is buttons if you are having issues. Also at times it restricts movement.

I bought this jacket do my fiance and he absolutely lovesick his jacket. He says it's the warmest jacket ever. He love so the length for the body. All the pockets you get for storage use. He commends this product to to anyone he knows. For the price it's so worth it cause I know it'll look as though I'm forever. The north face never disappoints me.

I'm a Doorman in NYC and when the weather drops here it's really bad. In the past two weeks temps have dropped down to 1Degree and this coat has done the job. Excellent warm and stylish. I'm very pleased. I can always depend on North Face to come through when I need it.
