haven't had a chance to wear this in cold weather yet, but wanted to comment on size. I went through the "which size is for you" thing on the North Face site and it recommended a large. When I got it, I was SWIMMING in it! It was huge. I returned and got the medium, which is a much better fit. I'm 5'10" about 180 pounds. Can't wait for some cold nasty weather to give it a try.

This is the winter coat I turn to when I need something to stand up to the toughest Wisconsin winters. I recently took it ice fishing in single digit temperatures and it did great. The mask and hood were especially helpful. It is a little bulky but I think it is a good trade-off for the weather protection it provides.

Bought this jacket for keeping warm in Russia during the winter. It has certainly stood up to the challenge. It has kept me warm in temperatures as low as -32.

I live in a Minneapolis suburb and after last winter's "Polar Vortex" I decided to get a winter coat that doesn't mess around. So far I've worn this coat about a dozen times in temps between 0 and 32 F and I have to say it's by far the warmest coat I've ever owned. It's actually a bit too warm above 20 F or so; even with just a t-shirt underneath it can get a bit too hot. The hood does a great job blocking wind, especially with the front drawstring tightened and the fur ruff flapped forward. Last week I had to wait at a bus stop for about 15 minutes with a sharp wind and -5 F windchill and I was completely warm with this coat and a wool hat and mittens. The biggest negative is that the coat is very bulky, but I don't know how you can get around that. A real fur ruff option would be great also for truly frigid days, and snow cuffs and a snow skirt would be great features as well. The only parkas I found with all of those options were the Canada Goose line, and for non-arctic weather I can't imagine that paying $300 extra would be worth it for most people.

I live in the coldest urban center in the United States--Fairbanks, Alaska, and I work outside in the winter as a guide. My work takes me up north into the Arctic, where I often stand outside at night in colder temperatures than most people ever experience in their lives. I have a North Face McMurdo parka that I bought probably 6 years ago, which is a different color than the ones here. I don't know if the materials and design otherwise is very different. This coat is seriously warm--I am never worried about being cold in this coat. In fact, I usually won't wear this parka unless it is 0 degrees F or colder. If it drops to extreme lows, like -25 to -50 or colder, my parka has plenty of room to add extra layers. With the layers, I laugh at any extreme cold temperature. Other perks--It's waterproof. It has huge pockets in the front that can hold my gigantic mitts with room left over (this coat is like having a small backpack with you). It has an iPod pocket inside. The drawbacks, which are minor--The faux fur ruff snaps on, and comes off a bit too easily. Wish it had a zipper. The faux fur ruff does not lay "roundly" over the head--it lays a bit horizontally, so it doesn't look as good as it could when the hood is pulled up. These concerns are not enough for me to drop my rating from a 5 to a 4. Highly recommend.

True to size. 5'10", 160. Medium fits well. Coat is warm & windproof with good amount of pockets. Neck/face gaitor is awesome! It's thin, soft and keeps your face warm when pulled up to chin or over nose. It's attach to back part of hood so it easily stays behind your neck when not in use. You can't feel it back there. No issues with zipper yet like other reviewers. Great coat for winter in Boston!

I've taken this coat with me to Iceland as well as the 15F and very windy weather I'm currently experiencing in the US. Keeping it brief... I've never gotten cold in this coat, the windproof aspect is incredible, and it truely is comfortable (although a bit bulky). The negatives I've found are the waterproofing aspect. While the water may not penetrate through the 3 inches of down feathers, water will penetrate the coat. I experienced this is a light winter rainstorm. The other big negative is the hood. It's not well connected and not sturdy enough to battle heavy winds. The fake fur is also annoying as it gets in your mouth constantly. At the end of the day however, I would still recommend this coat to a friend if it was at a good price.

Zipper is a big problem. Very disappointed in the jacket. Great coat otherwise.

Excellent for Minnesota/Midwest winter weather. I stay dry and warm outdoors and its perfect for blocking wind-chill when walking, hiking or snowshoe activity (using the hood and built-in face cover) is a bonus for blocking out cold wind and chill.

I needed something a little more upscale and warm enough. Got both. It looks good, protects from the lowest temps, fits well and have the perfect length. Couldn't recommend more.

I live in Montana and it gets cold here. The parka I purchased keeps me warm throughout the Montana winter. I'm a Northface customer for life after buying the Mcmurdo parka 3. I'm gonna buy one every winter from here on out.
