Why doesn't La Sportiva bring this shoe back to the US? I have been taking my old shoes to a seamstress in Salt Lake and having her cut the gaiter off and sew it onto mutants. I've had 6 pair and they wear out fast but seriously the best mountain running shoe ever!

This shoe is a total game changer for winter running. the design is a huge improvement over the previous Crossover model with the integrated gaiter keeping all snow and moisture out. The upper is warm enough for long, sub-freezing runs in deep powder, and the sole is trustworthy on the iciest trails. (For even more traction the LS Hobnails are a must). Worth the money--these will last a couple seasons for winter running!

Perfect for cold feet or hearty missions. I even wore these for a speed-workout on a gravel travel that was covered in snow -- was able to move quickly without feeling like I had ski boots on, like most winter trail shoes feel. GTX keeps feet dry and warm. I'm a W7 and sizing is true (38 works).

Love these shoes for running and hiking. Perfect shoes when the conditions are wet, muddy and snowy. The spikes make the shoes awesome for trails with packed snow and ice.

Each new mid-cut GoreTex trail running shoe put out by La Sportiva continues to improve significantly over the previous model, and the UraganoGTX is no different. I love the fit, feel and ride in this shoe. Living in Canada with some harsh winter months, this has been my go to shoe for winter trail running. The upper keeps my foot dry and warm, with the built in gaiter keeping the snow out, while the outsole is spectacular for traction on packed and loose snow.
These are the perfect shoes for snowshoe running as well!

Owned these shoes for 6 months now and I’ve got compliments on how they look! Wore them today in the pouring rain and came home with dry socks after 27 holes on the golf course! Took a week to break them in.

Nice, waterproof as stated. Compared to Akasha the Uragano has more bounce. Akasha is better for road walking, but is not waterproof. Both are good for trailwalking, but Uragano for trail running in winters/rainy season.
Now i take minus one star for slightly better cushioning, otherwise I do recommend them.

I took my Uragano's up Mt Harvard yesterday in Colorado. They stayed dry during 14 miles of postholing and snowshoeing and the traction was amazing on rock. Right out of the box they felt great and performed as needed.
My only 2 issues are that the lacing system makes it difficult to get a snug fit in the shoe and the gaiter is too loose to provide a good fit around my ankle - I suspect that this will get worse over time. I had to use a 2nd pair of ankle gaiters to keep the snow out.

To preface this review I will be forward in saying that it is hard for me to give anything five stars until I put 100's of miles on the shoe. However, I wanted to get a review up of this shoe as I feel it has some fantastic potential. Unfortunately I cannot yet comment on durability of the shoe. However I do assume given the durability of my other La Sportiva shoes that this one will act no differently.
My intent in purchasing the shoe was to find footwear that would be able to handle the diversity of terrain I would encounter in climbing Washington peaks. I wanted the shoe to be able to handle long approaches, spring snowpack, glaciers (with the ability to wear my Petzl Leopards) and even fourth class scrambling. Given that I was testing the shoe in winter, I was somewhat limited in my ability to choose this type of terrain but did my best to find similar conditions on local mountains. Si, Teneriffe and Mailbox saw the majority of testing on the old and new trails. Starting with comfort, the shoe felt like a slipper the first time I put it on. The two loops are perfect for pulling the shoe on as the integrated gaiter is snug (as it should be). The lacing system works well though I am still considering replacing it with Salomon's quicklaces as a matter of personal preference. I tested the shoe on runs from five to 23 miles and felt no foot fatigue at any time. Initially I thought the shoe would feel "clunky" compared to my other trail runners, but surprisingly I felt agile on the trails with them. Traction is superb! The lugs get a fantastic grip on steep terrain and the traction on consolidated snow is superior to any other shoe I have tried. I did some scrambling on class 3 rock and was surprised by how good the grip was. On all my routes, my feet stayed dry throughout including a morning of running around in wet, slushy snow. I am under no illusion that if submerged in water my feet would get wet in these shoes but that is the case with any footwear. To conclude, these are the shoes I will grab when heading to Olympus, Glacier Peak, Snowfield Peak and spring climbs of Bulgers.
