It is an all around light coat, especially good in windy and rainy condition. I live in the city, and find this to be a great coat for running errands, walking along the lake front, birdwatching, going to a museum. It is very well cut, and looks nice: I can dress it up with a nice scarf. I love the softness of the inner lining. Great pockets too. I can easily add a fleece jacket and even a light down jacket under it, when it is really cold. I am very pleased with this coat.

This jacket fits my bill. Fit is great around my shoulder area and love the subtle shaping at the back. It keeps me warm in cold rainy days. :)

I bought this rain jacket for a trip to Paris in April when the weather is expected to be cool (40's and 50's) and with frequent showers. In a fashion conscious city like Paris, I wanted to travel with one coat that would keep me completely dry and warm enough with layers, has a retractable hood so that it wouldn't scream "RAINCOAT" all the time, and in which I would look chic and not like a mountaineer (though it would also work well when I hike in the rain with my dogs). I'm pleased that this jacket accomplishes all of those things. When the hood is zipped into the collar, it has the appearance of a funnel neck (very Audrey Hepburn), and when in use, the hood holds a decent shape and doesn't lie flat on your head. The jacket has just enough of a lining to give warmth and substance without being bulky, has a nice shape with a bit of a waistline, yet allows layers to be worn under it. I am 5'3", 110 lbs, and this jacket hits at mid-thigh and fits me perfectly. If you want a versatile jacket the can be dressed up, black is probably your best bet.

I love putting on this light jacket that not only keeps me warm, protects me from the wind, and the rain. Wear it out to cafes, as well a walk on the beach. Esp. Love the soft fabric, does not feel like plastic, or stiff material.

I bought this jacket over a year ago and it is still in great condition. It is amazing for the cold, Canadian winters. Love it. I got the green, and the color is great.

This jacket fits true to size with all my other North Face. I LOVE the jacket with exception of the hood. When the hood is wrapped, it's VERY bulky on the neck. I've tried to flatten it the best I can...no luck. But I still like the jacket. It doesn't keep me warm in really cold weather, but it does help with the wind.

Liked the look of the jacket but it ran big. It needs a sleeve cuff because the Velcro sleeve closer tends to get caught on things. The length is perfect.

Fit was really boxy and the Gore Tex is very stiff. Otherwise true to size. Beautifully made jacket that let the wind underneath because of the shape and no way to cinch in the waist. Was looking for more than a rain sell and less than a parka - this is a very sturdy rain jacket.

I took this jacket to Scotland in fear of the wind and rain. Touring the Highlands, this was the perfect jacket for 50- 60 degrees (F) and wet. It was exactly what I wanted/needed! Thanks NF

i love the fabric and soft feel of this parka in a truly waterproof soft shell. It's unlike any Gore-tex garment you have ever owned. With higher armholes and slimmer fit, it fits very well in an urban setting, more like a traditional short trenchcoat than a hiking jacket. It is significantly warmer than a traditional Gore-tex shell, but you're not going to easily fit a puffy vest or jacket under it with its trim fit. This is the perfect jacket for cool rainy days.

Sleek coat, simple flattering lines, got black & was a great coat to take to Italy. Did layer with a sweater as it was windy and 40's.

I just received it and tried it on with a bulky sweater. It may be a little snug, so am ordering the XL to try and see which one fits better. When I used their guide to see what size i should buy, it said 60% took a size large and 40% took an extra large. Great coat, but not sure where I belong size wise.

Great jacket, two comments. 1) I wish it had a drawstring waist, 2) the "find your size" thing recommended a M for me, I went with my gut and ordered a S (i'm 5'1 and 145lbs) and it fit perfectly. The M would have been huge!

It's a nice jacket but I'm usually a medium in north face coats but I ordered a medium of this jacket and it was way too big even with layers on. I tried on a small at a north face store and I'm considering ordering a small instead, I think it for me much better than the medium and for reference, I'm 5'4, 145lbs, a full chest, 34 D, size 6-8 pants, not usually a small. But it felt nice to fit into a small either way. I had to wear a large jacket in another brand's coat the other day, so this jacket was a good ego boost, but sizes are subjective anyway, good luck coat hunting!

While this is an attractive parka, the material felt stiff and not as comfortable as expected.

Great for wet weather. Very stylish but doesn't fit as well as the other TNF jackets that I have. Shoulders are snug but the rest of the jacket is huge/not fitted so going up or down a size is not an option.

I really wanted to love this jacket. It's clean, minimal, and in a beautiful, brushed fabric that seems both wind resistant and waterproof. It's one of the better looking rain jackets I've seen from an outdoor company in my search. However, I did not keep this jacket because it was missing an important functional detail - a large enough hood. The hood on this is tiny! Even with my hair down to keep my head size to a minimum, it just reached the sides of my face. If you live in a place where people carry umbrellas, you'll be fine. But living in Portland, where no one carries umbrellas, and we really do use our raincoats in the rain, this doesn't fly as well. Having rain hitting your face repeatedly, while very refreshing, isn't ideal. For a jacket whose main purpose is rain protection, this was a deal breaker.
The other thing is - I'm 5'3 and about 117lbs. I climb, but my shoulders are not big by any means. The XS was really constricting across the back but fit well everywhere else. I could feel the seam on my back even when I wasn't moving. I tried the S but that was way too big. If you're tiny and you're only using this in a city that doesn't rain too much, I think you'll love this jacket.

I tried on this coat a number of times - I kept wanting it to be more flattering as it's soft and obviously well make and well, waterproof! However, the fit is rather boxy and although it is a parka it's still rather short - hitting me mid-thigh (emphasizing the boxiness of my upper body in this coat). The other two things that bother me about this coat is the bulky velcro on the cuffs (which finish off the rather long sleeves if you're 5"4 like me - good luck rolling them for a more casual look) and the bulky hood which doesn't tuck away neatly (the collar bulges out when the hood is stowed).
For a raincoat, it's great, but for an everyday coat it's unflattering.

Can't really give it a rating on performance as I never wore it. I just received it today and honestly its a pretty ugly jacket. This jacket has nothing aesthetic going for it whatsoever. Its boxy and unflattering. The sleeves could be a little longer but I'm 5'9 so thats not unusual for me. Also the North Face logo is practically invisible. I really really wanted to like this jacket because I want something waterproof, that is long enough and not bulky. Im disappointed and will be returning.
