I love these shoes. The most consistent hiking boots I have owned. I have hiked hundreds of miles in the . I own three pairs. Very durable. Good in snow.

This is my second pair. It has good support and the laces really help with my flat feet to get a good fit. Roomy in the toe box but firm support the heel.

All day comfort even on high mileage days, and sticky rubber sole, what's not to like?

These are my favorite approach shoes, full stop. I love the ankle support and the GTX treatment, they keep my feet dry on wet approaches. The toe box is nice and roomy, but you can still get a good fit to be on technical terrain. They're comfortable straight outta the box. The ,metal eyelets in the product photo has been upgraded (see my photo). The eyelets are now flush so it doesn't snag on things anymore. Can't recommend these shoes enough. They're quite the head turner too since you don't see them too often in the wild. Midtops 4 lyfe. Sizing: I always size up 1/2 in sportiva approach shoes because I think they run just a smidge small, at least for me. (8.5W/40 street, and I wear 40.5 so my toes don't feel cramped).

Sportiva shoes are made in Italy, so i went a half size larger which worked out well. Have not used them on a climb yet so i can't give a performance review.

I was looking for a hightop gore-tex hiking boot for approaching climbs, and this boot has been perfect. I love these because they give great support when you lace them tight, but also open up wide for easy on and off. At the crag I leave them unlaced and the slip on and off with ease. They started off a bit narrow (I have a very wide foot), but after a couple days, they've stretched to fit my foot incredibly well. I did cut out the arch from the footbed to make it fit a bit better. I'm super glad that I ordered a half size bigger than my street shoe. Size 10 normally, ordered size 44.

My second pair of these in 3 years. I LOVE them!! They are so well designed and structed. Almost like basketball mid-tops for the outdoors :-) Running, and hiking is a breeze. I have 1 pair that I wear year round on various trails then another pair just for the winter. I really hope they never get discontinued or we get a heads up so I can buy a few pairs before they run out. Only thing they can improve is the orange hooklets for the laces. Mine have snapped off on both pairs. So I had to improvise - but totally worth it for the benefit of how the boot feels.

The past couple of years I have been using TX2's for their light weight and sticky rubber. These fit great as I've come to expect from the TX series but I was a bit hesitant to go for the higher ankle; I was worried they would feel heavy and bulky. I was pleasantly surprised to find they barely felt any heavier and the added ankle support has been noticeably helpful while scrambling on talus. The GTX aspect has been a real game-changer; having never had waterproof shoes before I've been really psyched at how it lets me charge without hesitation through shallow streams and keep my feet dry during rain or snow. I'm 6 months in and so far I haven't noticed any deterioration in the waterproofing at all. The sticky rubber at the bottom is also barely worn despite hiking ~20 miles/week. I'm a size 9.0 in Vans and these fit perfectly for me at 42.0/9.0 U.S.

I used a relatively new pair of TX4 Mid GTX approach shoes during an expedition to Ama Dablam in late fall 2019. I wore the shoes during my late summer and fall training days in Colorado and my travel to Kathmandu. In Nepal I wore them while trekking to basecamp and during acclimatization rotations on the Southwest Ridge. The TX4's were extremely comfortable and provided adequate but not constraining support. They enabled confident movement on rocky paths, through fields of talus blocks and up and down steep slabby terrain. With a single pair of hiking socks they were comfortably warm during wintry conditions with temperatures in the 15 to 30oF range. My only complaint, which is very minor, is that the laces wore out sooner than I would have liked.

I do a lot of hiking in the Canadian Rockies. I love the regular TX4 and it's versatility on technical terrain yet staying comfortable on easier terrain. I switch to the Mid GTX version when I'm expecting to encounter snow. Gaiters and non technical hiking crampons fit easily. These keep my feet dry after going through a lot of deep wet snow. I had an eyelet rip out when it accidentally caught on something but the eyelet design has been improved in newer versions of the shoe to prevent this from happening. They are comfortable enough that I don't always bother with a change of shoes to drive to and from the mountains.

I've had them for over a year now and am so pleased with how they've worn. I've done 15 mile plus days with packs on and my feet always still felt good. As by design the tread is a little soft so they are very grippy but they will tend to wear a little faster then a tradition hiking boot. Worn then on multiple very snowy and wet hikes and my feet always stay warm and dry. My shoe laces did wear through the outside and eventually broke.

I've worn the TX4 Mid GTX for about a year now with hikes in Colorado, Nepal, Ecuador and Bolivia. I've never worn a boot so comfortable yet so supportive. When worn with Darn Tough Hiker sock, it feels more like a house slipper than a clumsy boot AND it is strong enough for scrambles. Well done Sportiva!

This shoe is an amazing creation by Sportiva! I can't say enough about the comfort, even after 20 miles. Out of the box, room for toes that have seen many miles but a secure heel fit. Feet stay dry. Boots stick to rock, both dry and wet, and lightweight crampons work well and are comfortable due to the cushioned ankle. In addition they edge relatively well on snow. This means I can travel in spring and fall conditions and count on my shoes to perform a wide spectrum of tasks. Lacing is smooth and allows for easy adjustments! Paired with the waterproof gaiters by Sportiva this approach shoe is amazing!

The most comfortable "boot" I've ever put on my feet, right out of the box! No break in required.I got these for a trip to the Canadian Rockies including the Bugaboos and they were perfect. I climbed easy rock, wore strap on crampons and carried a 10 pack with rock and ice gear with these on my feet. Feet stayed happy! The mid-top, goretex lined design kept my feet dry on the glaciers and even in the rain. Shockingly supportive with a heavy pack for how light they are! (They only weigh 16oz, that is less than the Boulder X.) They scramble like champs on a variety of wet or dry surfaces. I can't comment on their rock climbing ability on steeper rock as I tend to put on rock shoes when I feel like I'm really climbing. A great all around mountain tool.

Why does la sportiva choose to not simply make an all black version of this shoe.. It is a great hiking shoe for work but they have to make it only available with strange color patterns.. Please fix the eyelets and sell this shoes as an all black version as well. please.

I've been wearing the tx4 gtx for 3 years, but the top clips for the laces keep breaking apart. It would awesome if there's a way to solve this.

I really like the comfort, technical feel and style of this boot. Those are the only redeeming qualities. The lacing system with nylon loops either fails or it shreds your laces. One of the top lacing cleats broke off after less than a year of use.

If you climb in these approach shoes, the orange eyelets holding the shoelaces will get shredded. I climbed about 10 pitches total in them before the eyelets became absolutely shredded. It's a real shame because otherwise this shoe climbs GREAT. They're lightweight, have a good toebox for edging and cracks, and are mid-rise for wetter approaches. La Sportiva, please fix the eyelets by making them more rugged and these will be the only approach shoes I ever buy.

During the break in period three of the orange eyelet loops ripped through the upper. This was with less than 5 hikes on them and the longest hike was a short 4 miles. I move allot for work and missed REIs return deadline so now I'm stuck with broken boots. This quality is inexcusable in a boot at any price. I've never had a pair of boots fail before they were even broken in before.
