Ordered this product based on it's size as I wanted something larger than my 14L hydration pack, but smaller than my 38L Kestrel. I am a professional resource specialist, and also contract as a naturalist guide doing interpretation in National Parks throughout the West. I currently own 8 different Osprey products including backpacking backpacks, daypacks, messenger bags, and a hydration pack. I think Osprey is a great company, but I couldn't believe my eyes when I tried on this pack, and found that the way the shoulder straps are attached, they render the nice-sized waist-belt pockets completely unusable. You'd have to take off your shoulder strap in order to access the waistbelt pockets. This is an extremely poor design and a major flaw in an expensive daypack. Also, I am an average-sized athletic female (5'8", 145#), wearing a S/M in a unisex Osprey and the waistbelt on this back has no more than 3" of surplus on either side. If I was a few pounds heavier or wearing winter clothes, the waistbelt wouldn't fit, yet the chest strap has so much extra webbing, it's long enough to fly up and strike my face in the wind. Osprey definitely needs a redo on this model. Big loser. Probably the first time I've written a negative review for an Osprey product.

Overall, fantastic, but Too awkward to use side pockets for water bottles, Hipbelt pockets are TINY, which is unnecessary because the hipbelt needlessly cinches down to 24"? There are stretchy loops on each shoulder strap, what are they for? Would like a stow option for z poles. Best kept se rets The stretchy pocket on the shoulder strap will hold a small sanitizer bottle, The big loop on the top of the pack allows you to pull it up and access the small back zipper pouch , without taking the pack off.

I needed a fairly basis daypack that was hydration-capable and toyed with whether to go with a framed pack. I'm so glad I went with the Osprey Talon 22! I have worn it on multiple long bike rides and it is super comfortable. I like the adjustable harness and had no trouble fitting the pack to my torso. I'm 6'-4" and weigh around 210 lbs. The location of the hydration bladder compartment, in between the harness and the main compartment, is super smart and convenient. And I appreciate the elastic loops on both shoulder straps to run the bladder hose and keep it anchored and out of the way. The main compartment is roomy and the mesh zip pocket with key ring clip is perfect. The additional top zip pouch with soft lining is also generous with space and great for electronics or snacks. On the front of the pack, there's the stretch outer pocket for quickly stowing a rain jacket or other gear. I was skeptical on the side hip pockets, and expected them to be hard for me to access given my size. I was pleasantly surprised that I could actually reach them, and unzip/zip them with one hand. On my last bike ride, I was able to fit my iPhone XR in one. Overall, this daypack is a winner and I'm glad I held out for one.

I hike in S. AZ during the winter months, and have put on a couple thousand miles (maybe several thousand) with the Talon 22, something now retired. Normal carry is about 12-pounds (including pack weight) but sometimes 18-20 pounds, depending on how much water is needed. The pack is comfortable with these weights and ventilates nicely. It easily carries everything I need for my longest day hikes -- 10 hours/20 miles/4500' of AEG. [Most hikes are about half of that and include 2000 feet of elevation gain.] Pluses: Comfortable, durable, nice pockets for storing small items, elastic/mesh pouch for maps and whatnot. Minuses: The hip belt on the large is impossible for me to cinch tightly enough to keep the pack riding where I want it. Obviously, this cannot be a very big deal since I've used the pack for a lot of VERY enjoyable trail miles. Putting a hydration bladder in the pack is a bit of effort but probably similar to other packs. A bigger negative: The side pockets are small and larger water bottles will not stay securely in the pockets. Half-liter bottles are okay. I've replaced this pack with a Exos 38, something I intend to use as a daypack. Yes, it's substantially bigger, but I expect it will serve me nicely as a day pack. With much warmer weather due to arrive this week, being able to carry more water should prove to be a plus for the Exos.

I used the backpack just this past March to walk the Camino. I was able to carry exactly what I needed. The Osprey Talon 22 was often compared to other packs that fellow pilgrims were wearing. I would say that the Osprey brand was popular along the trail. I had to return early because of covid 19. I hope to return to finish my journey. I would not change a thing on my Backpack. Comfortable, easy on and off, and fit just enough weight to carry on this 69-year-old vital lady.

I have had this pack for 6 years and I have definitely put it though the ringer. I've brought this pack to 3 different country's and used it everyday. Along with weakly day hikes and multiply road trips, I've definitely gotten my money's worth. It's only started to rip a little on the mesh front pocket, but that's probably just daily wear and tear.

Not sure how old this backpack is but it's my oldest. Very durable. Primarily used for airline travel and my Go Bag when not traveling. I'm a minimalist and this is the only bag I fly with. I can pack a weeks worth of clothing for multiple weather conditions and all my essentials. Front mesh pocket is good for sandals or sweatshirt. Perfect size. Just needs to have an additional mesh pocket inside. Top pocket is good to sunglasses. Pockets in the waist strap are perfect for wet wipes. I would buy another one if anything ever happened to this one. Needs Velcro to put a patch on.

I use this pack mostly for commuting by bike, but also for carrying anything around town, or for day hiking. It could totally be used in a minimal overnight setup if you keep things light. The pack is super super comfortable. I regularly load it up with heavy groceries and it hold up well. I love the idea of a little stretch mesh pocket on the shoulder but this one is so tiny that it cant really hold anything. Also, it would be cool to see some of their stuff use waterproof fabrics. Other companies do it and keep things really light.

I've had my pack for quite awhile- 15 or more years. The fit is perfect, holds just the right amount, and since it's yellow/gold, easy to locate.

I've been through thick and thin with this pack. From easy bike commutes to rugged approaches to the crag in the Red River Gorge, this pack has made my life easier. For day use it has enough space for my laptop, notebook, climbing gear for the gym, and will still have space for other gear. For adventure use, it can fit all the snacks you could want, plenty of water, camp shoes, rain gear, a change of clothes and more. The comfort provided by the adjustable hip straps and form-fitting yet breathable back plate puts all other 20-30L packs to SHAME. There have been times that I've lost my back pack just because I forgot that I had it on my back because it is so comfortable (that could just be a me-derived problem, not a pack-derived problem though). I originally commandeered this pack from my dad when I was in high school as a school bag, and it has lasted me since then (4 years later) after many adventures with only minor holes and abrasions from questionable decisions that I've made (once again, a me-derived problem, not pack-derived). All in all, this pack is a fanTAStic and 12/10 recommend it to you. Yes, you! Get this pack!

I could not recommend this pack more. I first received my pack in 2015 in Shamrock Green which is an excellent color choice as it as faded a little and still looks sharp. I as a scientist who often performs field work in very unfriendly environments the pack has never let me down. Each of the side pockets can hold a hydroflask/nalgene sized water bottle no problem. The mesh front pocket is wonderful for holding clothing or food and can expand way further than it should to carry anything you might need. The inside of the pack seems endless in its size as I always have a little room at the very top to close it somehow. This pack has numerous clips and loops around it which are great for either using as a holder for something other than its designed use or for its designed use. I could not love the hips pockets more as they are large enough to fit a large phone in them or anything else and the hip belt feels as if it is hugging you and supporting the load. Between the bag and the back plate there is a slot that is perfect for a water bladder (I use a 3L) of almost any size and it does not reduce the volume inside the pack at all. I have washed the pack many many times and it has never had any issues. I do however carry a rain cover for the pack because while it is weather proof it is not water proof. Having the extra rain cover is no issue and you can pick them up for very cheap (I got mine for $3) and they weigh maybe 2 oz. I have used this pack for 4 years now and it has held up. Only now wear is starting to show on the bottom of the pack due to how many coarse rocky ledges it's been tossed onto or where I slid down somewhere many times. This pack has been put through the wringer more than its fair share of times and I would bet it holds up for another 4 years before I replace it. Bottom line: Buy this pack! You won't regret it!

Got this to replace a similar size molle day pack which had terrible shoulder straps. I can wear this Talon all day and barely notice it's there. Huge difference, it's very comfortable. Mostly use it as my every day gear bag and for occasional hikes. This pack of deeper than it seems as the main compartment comprises what would be several small compartments in other packs. The Black version is as it appears in the photos; it's mostly dark gray with black and light gray accents. Only minor cons were the pack was a bit flimsy when I needed it to stand up: a trade off for how very lightweight it is. If it's full, no problem though. Also, as I noticed with nearly every other brand of pack, the zipper flies can get caught in the zipper if you're not careful. It's a thin material and easily caught. Not sure if making them thicker or wider would help. Definitely would still recommend this pack.

Tried several packs and this was by far the best fit, most comfortable and offered the features I was looking for. Only thing missing was a built -in rain cover.

I love this pack! I use it for Adventure racing up to 24 hour races. I could probably go longer but have not tried. If you pack super minimal you can definitely overnight with this bag but i would not try longer than a night it would just be cutting it to close at that point.

My Talon 22 is my travel bag. It has been all over the world as my only bag. I recently completed the Camino de Santiago (500 miles) with my Talon 22. Love this bag. Highly recommended.

One reviewer wrote that reaching water bottles in the side stretch panels was impossible, whereas another said they were easy to reach. I favor the first reviewer's opinion - It's nearly impossible to grab a water bottle while wearing the pack. Granted, I'm 62 years-old and my shoulders aren't particularly flexible. It's not really that much of a problem for me either - I simply ask my hiking partner to help. I've had other packs that are equally difficult, so I won't knock the Talon 22 for this. I appreciate that they provided space for two water bottles and a hydration pack. If you need to hydrate on the go, don't want to take the pack off, and don't have help, you'll probably want to add the hydration pack, or get a water bottle that can hook onto one of the many attachment points on the pack. Great pack! Very well constructed.

I've been accused of being a serial backpack shopper/purchaser, but this came to an end when I found the Talon 22. I hike most spring/summer/fall weekends in the Adirondacks. Travel plans usually include a destination where at least one hike is on the agenda ( Newfoundland, Iceland, the Alps and Arizona). This pack has been everywhere and provided ample space to accommodate whatever was needed for each trip and situation- whether cold weather or rain gear. I'm an older/senior, female hiker and appreciate the comfort that the Talon provides. I spent a long time looking for a pack that allowed the ability to reach and replace my Nalgene bottles while on the go without having to remove the pack. This one achieves that readily. the hip pockets are large enough to provide for phones or cameras as well as a few other small items that I like to have readily available while hiking. I usually take it on dayhikes of varying lengths ( 10 to 25 miles) and it serves well in that situation, but has enough space that I could probably use it for an overnight stay as well.

I own both the 33 and the 22. I've read a few reviews that claim water bottles can't be retrieved and/or replaced while wearing either of these packs. I am 6' 2" and weigh 220 pounds. I'm not particularly flexible but I can easily grasp and replace water bottles (either side of the pack) while wearing the packs. So if that's important to you, try the bag before you eliminate it from consideration.

This was purchased at my local outdoor store in NJ. I purchased this because I was using an incredibly old pack and couldn't take the stress on my shoulders when mountain biking any longer. I ended up putting much more weight into this pack than in my previous pack, and the difference was night & day. With the addition of this pack, I have increased the distances I can travel exponentially and this has truly made a difference in almost every aspect of my "adventures." I really am so impressed by this company and their dedication to their consumers' comfort and overall happiness in the end. There was definitely a reason why the employee recommended this brand. I am very happy that I decided to spend more than I initially intended to since this has made such a difference for me. I highly recommend this to anyone.

In my line of work I travel all over the place I switch from public transportation to a personal vehicle then get on my mountain bike my Talon 22 goes everywhere I go I use it for all my luggage needs and the thing has never failed me I'm telling you I put this back through hell and it just keeps on Keepin On I tell everybody there's no Better Bag Company it is definitely a conversation piece amongst non-believers and people who have never had the superb privilege to have used one of these packs. I never stop promoting this company I am moving marketing daydream I could not say enough about this company I'm on my second Talon 22 and I push this back to limit they did not manufacture this bag to put through such horrendous conditions and I believe they outdid themselves

I own a total of (4) packs (2 of them are Osprey packs). The Talon 22 is by far my favorite when it comes to long day hikes. Plenty of room for anything you might need for this duration of hiking. It is very comfortable to wear all day. Packs from some other brands are a lot more expensive, with less features. I highly recommend the Osprey 22 Pack..... Like I mentioned above.... this IS my favorite pack..

This is my go to bag for when I need a little more space for either a day outing into the big hills or mulit day bike tour through the Overberg. It has served me well on a 4 fast packing trip in the Richeterveld too. Absolutely love the clam shell construction which makes loading easy. Stretch Mesh pockets stow water bottles and other easy to reach items well. A firm favorite in my arsenal!

I use this pack as my go to day pack, whether it be for unicycling around town, hiking in the mountains, or for a multipitch climb. It's light weight and ample storage can be used for nearly everything. I love that it repels and drains water so well and that it has an expandable shove-it pocket; great for raingear or whatever.

I bought this pack to take on the Virginia Creeper Trail while in Damascus, VA. It has very convenient pockets on the hips and easy access to the contents of the pack. I added a hydration pack very easily and used it on the 51 mile ride I took. This pack is all I needed for the day. I'll use it for a daypack when I hike and can easily use it to carry my things to work. It has quickly become my "go to" pack.
