I tried the medium and the large shirt on at a local REI and as comfortable as the fabric is, there is not a suitable option for a tall man.
I'm 6'2" 175lbs. The medium fit well around my torso and chest but lengthwise it barely touched the top of my pants. If I scrunched it up it would have made a very fine crop-top.
The large was slightly longer but it was fairly loose/puffy around my body and it could have even stood to be a little longer.
I considered buying an xl and having it tailored but I'm not sure if a tailor would be able to take it in enough or if there's any inherent risk in altering these particular shirts.
Tall people could stand for more options in clothing in general but it would be amazing if Smartwool would consider opening up their market to a broader spectrum of consumers.
I'd gladly pay the price point for a product that fits, and I'm sure there is plenty of other guys with dollars in their fists who would do the same.
Show some love to us long-torsoed freaks!

I purchased three under garment wool shirts as above.
The fit is poor, the neck opening seems to be too large, the chest and abdomen fit also seem to be too large. I would like to try them for a little while, but if I'm not satisfied I want to return them for a different style or something. I had another Smartwool t-shirt that fits better.
Thank you
Tom

I recently examined these shirts in person at a local retailer. They're awesome.
Wish I could make a purchase, only.... they're cut way too small. I don't know who you're using for a men's fit model, but let me tell you -- he's NOT an XXL.
Consider making these in BIG and TALL sizes. There are customers out there for these sizes, and you can sell right here though your site, if retailers don't want to carry the extended size runs.
Make some -- you'll sell them.
Thanks.

Great as a base layer for biking or hiking. Also good for travel because you can wear the shirt for a few days without washing it, before it develops any unpleasant odor. The full price seems quite expensive to me, but I bought a few of these when they were on sale and feel happy about my purchase. Sometimes medium shirts are too small for me, but this medium size fits me perfectly (5'11", 170 lbs).

This is my favorite shirt. I have a whole stack of them and wear them under everything; winter and summer. They travel all over the world. I have even loaned them out to people who found an overnight trip cooler than expected.

I wore this shirt under my synthetic running singlet in this year's Boston Marathon, which experienced some of the worst running weather in history. It was cold, wet, and windy. While many people were dropping out due to hypothermic conditions, my core stayed nice and warm despite being soaked soaked through.

This is a great climbing shirt. Feels great, stretches, and pretty durable for wool. It also looks great under a jacket at work.

My husband has several of the base layer short sleeve shirts and wears them under his dress shirts. He loves them. They fit as expected. This new shirt is no longer 100% merino wool but seems good so far. It will be good to see how it wears and holds up compared to the older shirts he has.

My go to base later shirt In the cooler and colder season. Comfortable many days in a row I've got 3 and they last the few weeks between washes. Good athletic fit. In many brands I need a small to not have a boxy fit but this medium fit well in the shoulders and torso

I normally wear a Large, but knew from a previous order/return that a XL would fit better, and it did.
Very comfortable and will be ordering more! The black is nicer than I thought and since its merino wool doesn't get hot. I does have a very light get of itchiness, but tolerable...

This shirt stays cool in warm weather and really repels odors. The only downside is it shows wet spots quickly when it is warm. That is a small price to pay for the comfort.

I'm a smelly, sweaty dude. Traditional, inexpensive exercise shirts made out of polyester/nylon always accumulate an odorous funk after a short wear whether I'm exercising or not.
Everything they say about merino wool is true from my experience with this shirt
- Breathable: yes
- Moisture-wicking: yes
- Odor-resistant: yes
- A little itchy: yes, in places
I selected the Smartwool shirt because it is 100% merino wool. I wanted to get as far away from polyester as I could (many "merino wool" shirts are a wool/polyester blend).

My First Merino 150 shirt and I couldn't be happier. Super lightweight, feels nice next to skin, easily washable, reduces stink, and wicks amazingly. Whats not to like? I understand hesitating at the price tag, but after you have one you won't want to wear anything else. Having a few of these on rotation is an entire summertime game changer. Perfect for travel too.

This shirt is so versatile! I can wear it as a baselayer when i'm active (hiking, running, biking, skiing) or under a dress shirt to work. Or just for a night on the town with my wife! Super comfortable, great fit, no stink.

Have loved the effectiveness of the previous Merino 150 shirts, however the quality/longevity was very poor. For a $70-80 shirt I would not expect holes in the shirt almost from day 1. I have worn the shirts anyway because I do like the way they perform. The new Merino 150 seems to have solved that problem. I have worn it pretty hard for a couple of months and holding up well. Now I can wear one of my favorite hiking/running layers without holes!

I use these shirts for all day hikes in the heat. They are a little bit warm at first, but the moisture handling qualities of the wool make them better than polyester or cotton for sure.
