I've bought several pairs of the Merrell Moab style in the past and they've always served me well. Unfortunately, the Moab 2 line seems to have missed the mark. The first pair of shoes i bought wore down quickly and the sole fell apart within 3 months. Never having a problem before, I just threw them out and ordered a new pair. It's nearly 3 months to the date since I purchased my last pair, and the sole has come unglued and the heel box is getting more and more loose. At $120 a pair, I can't keep buying these every 3 months. This is the first shoe on zappos I've ever given a review of, let alone a negative one.

My Moab 2 have done well with my latest, dusty olive, going through stages. When new, the fit was great, but I soon developed discomfort problems with the left shoe. My podiatrist fitted a metatarsal pad for the left, and the discomfort was resolved. The foot doctor commended my use of Merrell. Prior to the doctor's visit, I ordered a half size larger Moab 2, bark brown. The fit was "fair;" not "great." The larger shoe was heavier and more clunky. While the .5 larger shoe works okay, it does not have the comfort level of my exact size. I also fitted the larger Moab 2 with the metatarsal pad. In the future, I will have the podiatrist technician trim painful toe nails instead of buying a larger shoe. Exact fit is important to me. I will have my foot modified to fit the shoe correctly. Praise for foot doctors and Merrell.

I went on others' recommendations that these were snug and went a half size up. I think I would have been safe sticking with my normal size, although it leaves room for thicker socks. I used them the day after they arrived for a winter hike and I couldn't be happier. They were comfortable and warm and kept my feet dry. The traction was good in the snow. I'm looking forward to more hikes. So far so good.

I love these shoes! As an active geocacher, I enjoy walks along both hard and soft trails, rural and urban settings. These shoes keep my feet nice and dry, and are comfortable for long walks. The only negative, I have to double knot the laces. They seem to come untied very easily. No problem, they're long enough todo just that. I also wear them for work when traipsing around a large urban school district, moving from site-to-site. I'm on my third pair in seven years. The first pair I just threw out, and the newest pair is still being broken in, so not much turn-over and lots of wear.

I order these for my husband every few months. He has bad knees but swears by this brand and style. His knees have never felt better while wearing these shoes. Highly recommend them.

My second pair from the Moab series. I like these for stable footing, grip on rocky trails, and for waterproof design. This is my favorite for wet grass early morning walks... they keep my feet dry. This pair seems a bit more snug that my previous pair... but still within my comfortable range. I have a high arch and I removed the moderate arch footpads and inserted my own high arch footings. I have been consistently happy with Merrell quality and design.

I'm a senior citizen with feet and leg problems so I needed a very comfortable wide shoe with good support. I got every thing I needed with this shoe. They a extremely comfortable. I ordered a half size larger to get more room around my toes and they fit perfect. The best part is they don't come with outrageously long shoe lases. They are just the right length and don't flop around and get caught on things. I'm happy with my purchase.

Great pair of shoes for hiking in the woods. Purchased for my husband he has a wide foot and has a hard time finding comfortable shoes. He purchased in wide and fit is perfect. Waterproof and they clean up easily.

I ordered these as a replacement for an old worn pair I got 8 yrs ago that's a little short now. First I ordered the all leather enclosed ones but hose seemed too heat retaining for hiking or summer use. These worked out perfect fit and could tell immediately how well they breathe. I would highly recommend.

I'd stick with Merrell.

This is my 4th or 5th pair. These feel significantly smaller than the earlier pairs, and they are very hot - must be the waterproofing. Honestly, these are knockabout shoes for walking the dog on some nearby trails and, when it rains, they wouldn’t be my first choice even with the waterproofing. Next time, I’ll avoid the waterproof versions, save some money, and enjoy cooler feet.

Awesome shoes. I've had great experiences with Merrell in the past and these shoes are excellent. I bought them to wear in Alaska this summer. They kept my feet warm and dry in the cool Alaska rainy weather. No slipping around with these, the grip is great. Very comfortable and well made. I highly recommend them.

Great Shoe, feels comfortable and sturdy, but runs narrow. Not sure if received a defective shoe but the right shoe seemed to be smaller than the left. Will re-order in a wide model. Love the shoe.

This is my third pair of these shoes. I order the wide so my orthotics fit inside them well. Shoes always last long and are very comfortable. The customer service from Zappos is the best.

These boots are, of course, great hiking boots but they also make pretty good snow boots as well. I wear them with a thick pair of wool socks and they not only keep my feet dry but the sole tread is prefect to keep you from falling.

Really comfortable Had 3 pairs prior to this. They seem to last about 2 years with daily wear.

This is my second pair of Moab 2, the first being the Beluga color and I love the comfort and style of that pair that I bought a second pair in the granite color because I now use the first pair for lawn/garden care and other dirtier environments. Also, I wear them when washing our vehicles and never end up with wet socks...a big plus over other supposed "waterproof" hikers! I have severe heel problems (bursa issues) and these are the only hiker-style shoes that give me absolutely no problem. Perhaps it's just me but I've tried on literally dozens of pairs of hiking boots and was very happy to find these have no issues. My first pair is nearly a year old and I haven't experience any of the gluing or wearing issues the other reviewer mentioned so maybe after a couple of years mine will fail too but most shoes made today aren't made to last eons.

Great shoes. I live in them. I'm 75, so no longer have to pretend to be a fashion plate. Not that I ever was. I always wore what felt good, and Merrills always felt right on my feet. As my height has diminished, my toes seem to have gotten longer. This time, when I ordered my usual 11.5, I found that they were cramping my toes, so I sent them back and ordered a 12. That fits fine. Zaps accommodated my change in orders very efficiently and quickly. I love that you can send one pair back while you're ordering another pair. That's real service. Good work!

This brand appears to have shrunk in sizing by approximately 1/2 size since the last time I bought a pair of Merrell Moabs 3 years ago.

The wide size makes all the difference. I wish more Merrell shoes were available in wide.

These are my first Merrell hiking shoes. They were intended for my day hikes around the Pacific NW. Then I decided to wear them for walking on rainy days. Now I've ditched my athletic shoes and wear these exclusively for my walks. They are warm, waterproof, and have great support and stability. So comfortable!!! My husband also got a pair - says they can't be beat when coaching kids football on cold, rainy days.

These shoes fit fine. However, the heel cup slips a bit unless the laces are carefully tightened. No complaints, but I sure wish the Salomon still made their X-Ultra (not the X-Ultra3).

The Moab fits good and is a great walking/hiking shoe. I have a narrow foot and use orthotic arch supports and the medium width fits good.
