For the vegan lovers - I have not worn the shoes out properly yet, so I'm unable to review the quality and water resistance, but hopefully I can help you with the size. I generally float between a 10.5 and 11 men's shoe, with medium width, but a "tall" foot (presumably I have a moderate to high arch) so some shoes can feel more compressed top to bottom than side to side, if that makes sense. For some reference, I sport chucks comfortably as a size 10.5 with enough room at the toe and no real issue with either being too snug or too loose. Chucks size 11 fit ok, but are a little on the bigger side in length. I originally ordered the Merrell Moab 2 GTX in size 10.5. It fit like a glove right out of the box with lightweight socks on - except - my big toe was just a little too close to the end of the shoe (1/4" to 3/8" gap) and I knew that, when hiking up and down hills, my foot would shift forward a bit in the shoe and my toe would rub occasionally. So, I exchanged for the size 11. The size 11 fit just as well, but pleasantly allowed for more room at the front. I know I won't have to worry about any rubbing while hiking. The heel felt a little loose (nothing major), but I had lightweight summer socks on at the time and I know I'll be in a mid-weight to heavier weight sock when I wear these in the cooler and wetter Oregon months. So, I'd consider these fitting true to size, but if you float between sizes, you may want to choose "up" like I ended up doing. Additionally, these are a heavy hiking shoe and I hope that speaks to their ability to take a beating. The size 11's clocked in at a good 17 ounces (per shoe) on my scale. And, it seems like I'm a good inch taller wearing them due to the thick bottoms. If the Moab's quality fails me and interferes with my chantarelle and hedgehog bounties, you will most certainly read an updated review. Tread respectfully. (p.s. For hiking and water resistance, I also considered the Salomon Outline GTX. I ordered them in size 11. They fit like a glove out of the box and feel like a feather compared to the Moab. Really attractive shoe too, in my opinion. I will be keeping them for low-key wet urban hikes. I cannot yet speak to their quality; only their fit at this point.) Oh, and during the Moab exchange, I once again experienced great (and cheerful) customer service from Zappos. Always a bonus.

Best shoes I have ever purchased. I have been buying Merrell Moab's for years, going on to my 6th pair and I they are worth it. They are comfortable, and last a long time without sacrificing comfort.

I understand why many want flex, light weight and ground feel in their hikers, but I want support, stability, grip and protection from the ground. My new and second pair of Moabs do that very well.

This is my 5th or 6th pair and they are great for day hikes and just all around town. They were my go to shoe while on cruise in Alaska.

Bought a replacement pair, for my dad, he has extra wide feet. He is VERY happy with them and will continue to use them as his go to everyday shoe for working walking etc. 10/10 GORE-TEX is incapable of disappointment, as is Merrell, and their effective seam shops.

The wide fit perfectly. Great support and nicely made. Haven't had a chance to try them in rainy weather yet, but if they're anything like my previous Merrell Gore-tex, I'm confident my feet will stay dry. I love that you don't have to break them in.

Please don't ever stop making this shoe, especially in wide. Been wearing them forever and will continue to do so.

Extremely comfortable. 20 years ago I bought my first pair with Gore Tex lining. First time for trying Merrells waterproof lining. Hope it works just as well

I am a female with a bunion. I wear mens size 8 to hike and wear a women's size 9 shoe. This works well for me. Love all Merrell hiking and cross trainers. Purchased for my husband and 2 adult sons. Hike on moderate to hard inclines in the rain and snow. Keeps my toes warm too. Hike everyday for 2 hrs and shoes hold up well. Leave them in my car overnight. Minimal upkeep. Highly recommend.

Comfortable fit from day one. No breaking in required. Maybe a tiny bit short for standard sizing so if you're between sizes on most shoes I'd recommend the larger size. Foot stays cool during walks. Very breathable.

It is a well built, comfortable shoe. I wear them frequently when I go out, be it the store, the movies, or a hike. I actually own several pairs in different colors.

Purchase these for my son for a trip to the Grand Canyon and parts west. After some minor breaking in, his gray hikers are now a very wonderful shade of red, thanks to all the red rocks. They were great addition to our trip, I couldn't imagine him hiking the south rim of the Grand Canyon work sneakers.

These are my hiking shoes, which is mostly just trails, but usually average about 3 miles. They are very comfortable, but supportive. Feet stay warm, dry and cradled. These shoes require very little break in use...they're comfortable right out of the box. I'm on my third pair over the last 8 years, so they last too.

Relatively light, well fitting, comfortable, water resistant. Perfect for keeping feet dry in wet conditions and for foot support on long hikes. My daily footwear spring to autumn.
