I did something no experienced hiker would ever do - I wore brand new boots right out of the box without break in for two weeks of intense hiking. Just returned from two weeks of hiking in Ireland in the rain, and these Merrell Moab 2 Waterproof mid height boots were perfect. Felt like bedroom slippers with excellent support and were dry in even pounding rain. Seriously, it rained buckets while I was hiking and my feet stayed dry even when the rain got through my waterproof clothing. I hiked and climbed more than 150 miles in these babies and didn't want to take them off when I got back home. I was off trail with these on rocky, rutted surfaces and felt my ankles well supported and feet protected. The soles are also pretty sticky, so I was not sliding on wet surfaces. Waterproof boots and shoes can be stiff, but these are not. I haven't tried the GTX version of these, but imagine those might be stiffer feel. And the waterproofing on the Moab 2 WTPF stood up in extreme rain, so unless you're fording streams, these should do the trick. I know I'm gushing, but these are amazing boots! Even in warmer temps (when I finally stopped raining and warmed above 70 degrees), these were good. I normally wear a 9M, but ALWAYS size up half a size in boots and running shoes. No different these - 9.5M with a mid-thickness Smartwool hiking sock and a liner sock, and I had no blisters or even hot spots after all those miles. I walked on road surfaces, dirt trails, gravel, rocks and boulders. Not one single complaint. You'll love these! I do so much I'm ordering another pair as backup. Enjoy and be comfortable out there!

Awesome boots! They're not only great looking, they're comfortable right out of the box. I got them in Granite and it's a medium gray with a touch of blue accents. I debated on size because I noticed some people said they ordered a half size up, but I went with my normal size of 7 wide and they fit perfectly with a medium weight sock. There's room for a heavy sock if I want to wear one, but I seldom do, even in the dead of Winter. So happy to find these boots in a wide width. And as usual, Zappos speedy overnight delivery rocks!

These boots are very comfortable. However, they are NOT WATERPROOF! The upper also separated from the sole after a few months. Very disappointing.

These are perfect. I hiked for three hours in snow and slush and my feet were dry the whole time.

Love these boots. I just got back from two weeks of being all over Ireland and these boots were great - from the Cliff of Moher to The Giant's Causeway - I was very comfortable in my normal size and wearing a healthy sock. Great arch support and my feet did not feel tired at the end of the day... and we were walking from 8am until 8pm (with stops in the pubs, naturally!)

I love everything about these boots except they are too narrow. I've never worn a wide shoe of any kind in my life, but I can't even handle these with my thinnest socks. I usually wear an 8, and I ordered an 8.5 M. The length feels right, but I'm going to try again with an 8.5 W.

If I could take only one pair of shoes with me to the zombie apocalypse, this would be the one. I have 2 different size feet - right foot is shorter, wider and has a higher arch, size 6. Left foot is narrower, longer, and comes in at 6 1/2. I bought these in 6 1/2 medium (B) width, and there is enough flexibility in the lacing gusset to give each foot a comfortable fit with mid- weight socks (and even adding Injinji sock liners). Some changes since I last ordered Merrell boots many years ago- the sole is articulated at the toe-box, so walking on flat trails or uphill, is more natural, and on descending trails I can get a better grip with no toe-bumping at the front of the shoe. The tread is moderately deep, and good on sandy and muddy trails, loose gravel and slippery logs (for stream crossing). Yes, they are waterproof, you can stand in a stream (up to the height of the shoe) while working a crossing point, which is a plus so I don't have to queue up in the line for the next available slippery log - LOL! In the photo, I've swapped out the (perfectly fine) original laces with day-glo stretch laces for easy slip on/off going through airport security. BTW, the soles of the shoes do NOT set off metal detectors at airport- this is a big plus! These are the most comfortable hiking boots I've ever worn.

I walk shelter dogs 6 days a week on rough terrain with energetic dogs. I've never felt like I would slip and fall when wearing these boots in all types of weather-ice, rain, hot sun. They give me ankle support to keep from rolling my ankles and breathable enough for hot Texas summers. I also wear them in the rain and as long as I don't step in deep puddles, they stay waterproof. I've ordered these shoes multiple times because I like them so much. I order a wide and I never feel like my toes are restricted either.

I got these boots for a trip to the Swiss Alps. They were comfortable right out of the box. I got the same size as my running shoes and didn't need to size up. I have a bunion and the toe box was wide enough to accommodate plus wear hiking weight Injinji (toe) socks (which translate to mid-weight for other socks). I appreciated the extra space in the toe box for steep descents. I also liked the fact that they had laces and not the bungie cord lacing. I could loosen them when and where needed to accommodate my foot swelling, but still tighten the ankle when going downhill. My only complaint is they are NOT waterproof. I hiked one full day in drizzle and came home with soaked feet. Fortunately my hotel had a good hair dryer and I was able to dry out for the next day. So, for fair weather days, I give the boots a 5 star, but am removing a star because they are not water proof. The arch support is minimal, which suited me. I use an insert that is customized to my foot.

Eureka! I found it! I'm so glad Zappos has easy returns, because I sent back several boots until I found these. I did order a half size bigger than my usual size and they are perfect. I have a wide foot and it has been difficult to find wide widths in boots. Easy to get on and super comfortable. So far, I've only worn them around the house to make sure they are okay. We are going on a trip to Iceland and I wanted something comfortable with traction. This boot fits the bill. I love the color. I got the granite, since I mostly wear black pants. Highly recommend!

I bought these boots and got them in the day before I went hiking with a friend. Of course it is risky wearing a brand new pair of boots on a hike, so I carried my tennis shoes with me just in case it went badly. I have to say though that these boots were so comfy that I took my tennis shoes out of my bag when we got to the state park. I then went on an over 9 mile, 4.5 hour, hike and the boots were fantastic! The terrain was pretty steep, some of it was rocky and it was misting rain all day. The boots performed wonderfully! I didn't have the first blister and my feet were completely dry. It is very difficult for me to find any shoe that fits comfortably because of some foot issues I have, but these boots were spectacular!

Unfortunately, these run very small. I wear an 11 and no size 12 is available, and I could barely get the 11s on my foot. Size up!

This actually is out of box comfortable! Ordered 1/2 size larger. For thick socks and was perfect. Ordered a 10 because wore 9.5 in other Merrill’s. Took other reviewers advice and ordered SOLE inner sole also. Provided even more padding. Purchased to give support to ankle due to calcium on Achilles’ tendon. Went from orthopedic boot to this mid MOAB boot and was pleased. Would order again.

I loved the style of these boots, however when I tried them on, on the left boot only, the arch felt like it was further back on my foot, hitting me halfway between the arch and heel. It was uncomfortable and I felt like during a hike it would be a prime spot for a blister to form. I really wanted these to work, but they didn't. I am trying a Timberland hiking boot next.

I've loved these shoes. Didn't take the hiking trip I had planned when I bought them, but i moved to a new house on a gravel road and they have been so comfortable, almost every day wear walking my dogs, and wearing very well. But recently was wearing them at my mom's just in her yard and all of a sudden felt something flapping and a small piece of the heel/sole had somehow come loose. I didn't trip or anything and all the tread is still great! Just a freak accident I guess. I may try to glue them, but going to start saving up because I know I'll have to replace these shoes ASAP!

I wear Merrell all the time and find their sizes to be very consistent. Except this boot. Not sure what happened with mine but I ordered my 8.5 as I always do and it was too small. I ordered a 9. Also too small. I held it up to another pair of older Merrell slip ons I have which are 8’s and the soles were the same size. I sent for a 9.5 so we will see...

I wear a size 10 in regular shoes, a 10.5 in sneakers and an 11 in hiking shoes. An 11 in these were a smudge too small and WAY too wide. I wear narrow shoes and Zappos indicated these ran narrow. Nope! Also, for outdoor hiking, these did not offer the foot and ankle support I needed. For city hiking and traveling, fine.

I knew the moment I put this on it would not be supportive enough for my feet. It's flexible and seems to be comfortable, but the base of the boot seemed to not have that solid support I would need for hiking through rough terrain. The ankle height is insufficient and the sole is more suitable for easy hiking, not rocky and root-strewn trails. I can't comment on grip of sole, waterproofness, or even comfort. It's a great looking boot though. I normally wear 9 in hiking boots (half size bigger than my street shoes) and this fit great in 9.

The fit and size were perfect! Slightly felt a half size larger but that was what I wanted-giving me room for thick socks. The traction is awesome and held me steady in place rock scrambling, bolder climbing and loose gravel hiking terrain. The grip was excellent. These boots are straight out of the box comfort! Love them.

I love these boots. I purchased them to replace my old pair of Merrell hikers from 2014 that I’ve worn out (still serviceable and in one piece I can just tell they are not as cushion-y as before which is to be expected from all the miles I put on them).

I ordered up a size as I do for any shoes I'll be wearing to exercise. Wide feet, so I ordered wide shoes. I wore them at home first to be sure they were comfortable, and I completely forgot I was wearing new shoes. Three hikes along winding wooded trails through rain and snow and my feet were warm and dry after each one. Easy on and off, great grip and tractin even on snow covered ice. Look great! Love these! Highly recommend them. Couldn't be happier!

I bought these to wear hiking, and haven't gone yet, so take that into account. So far, they feel fine. I wear an 11 and have average width feet with very high arches. I took out the liner and added my own with extra arch support because I need more. I have worn them so far on short, 3 mile walks, and they feel good. My only concern is that I worry they may be too hot- my feet get quite warm in them. So far, though, they are working out well. next week--Pike's Peak!

I needed to replace my 10 year old Merrell boots. I ordered 7 pairs of short boots -- various brands -- with the intention of keeping one. When I ordered these I read all the reviews and ordered the WIDE. I never wear wide but when I put them on -- PERFECT!!! I ordered my normal size (9) but in wide and they feel like old friends right out of the box. Right from the box they took me for a 5 mile walk -- PERFECT!!! They are bulky, clunky, typical "hiking" boot style. Fantastic!!! I replaced the liners with a pair of Spenco gel insoles (which I almost always do, and replace the inserts about every year -- makes the boots last longer and helps keep my feet happy). Highly recommend these boots. WAAAAY comfortable.

I have slightly wide feet and love that these come in a wide width. These boots were the most comfortable of a variety I tried out so I naturally chose to keep them. After wearing them for a few months, the right boot developed a large lump inside where the insulating material clumped up on one side of the ankle. This made the boot too uncomfortable to wear. Also, the boots are supposed to be waterproof, but that only lasts for the first couple of months. I don't know if anyone else makes a more long-lasting waterproofing, but it's not Merrell.
