These boots are good looking, have good traction, and are comfortable. I had two problems with them, however: 1) they were not waterproof. Hiking on a snowy day through puddles, water seeped in at the bottom of the shoe. 2) they run small. I have a 12.5 foot and ordered a size 13. These barely fit with regular socks and not at all with hiking socks.

I like the boots - aesthetically and comfort. I've worn them twice. I'm not sure that I'll wear them again. My understanding is that they replaced GoreTex with plastic. The damn boots squeak - loudly! I wish I could return them but I've worn them into town - twice. I didn't notice it much the first time but the squeaking seems much louder. I replaced the "insoles" with Dr. Scholl's - very comfortable but still squeaks like crazy! I thought about powder but I think the plastic is between the inner and outer layers. Probably be good boots for anyone that's deaf. Other than that "NO!"

For the price, Merrell could do a better job with the insoles. Just a scant piece of plasticized insole that leaves my feet achy after a short distance. I was forced to buy better insoles to continue to wear these boots. Also Merrell....would you please consider making your women's shoes in size 12?

My husband bought these for a hiking/ski trip. The first pair felt a bit small and narrow (he wanted to wear thick socks with them), so he ordered a half size up and wide and they were perfect. The traction was great (we hiked Yosemite so really put that to the test) and he said they were extremely comfortable even after full days of hiking. He ended up using these for the ski portion of our trip and they kept his feet warm and dry walking through the snow to and from the car/lodge/condo. He highly recommends these boots!

very comfortable if you like a snug fit but boy they really make your feet warm/moist after wearing for a half day, more so than other WP shoes.

Fit and size were perfect. But, I'm a woman, and I had to order mens because you don't have size 12 womens--I returned them b/c for me, the height was a bit too high and cur in at the wrong place. The women's sizes should go to 12!

Extraordinarily comfortable right from the start. I have a wide foot and the wide size was perfect. They would be better described as water resistant, a heavy rain came thru the top of the toe area. Well ventilated for walking in warm climate. I walk three miles a day average in this boot.

Second pair of Merrell walking shoes. Used for dog walking on pavement as well as muddy hills. Got the mid for more ankle support. Really like them. The Vibrum soles are always good and so supportive. I like Merrell's arch supports. Very pleased again, and of course, Zappo's is just great.

I am truly disappointed in Merrill. I am retired military and have run a number of summer camps over the years. Hiking is almost a daily activity! Bought these boots thinking they would be of the same quality as previous pairs. However, on the trail I immediately noticed I could feel the shape of stones under foot. After an 8.5 mile hike yesterday my feet hurt due to the lack of support. The bed of these boots is soft and more like a sneaker than a hiking boot. Do your research before purchasing any hiking boot. These were not worth $129.00.

Bought these for my husband to replace an old pair, after I also replaced mine with Moab and he couldn't believe the comfort and that they were hiking boots (compared to his old)

Ordered these for my husband since I love mine so much (on my second pair and just ordered a back-up third since they're on sale, plus I want to make sure I have them in case this style is discontinued). Anyway, turns out he loves his too...impressed with the support and lightness of the boot. Normally wears 11 l/2 or 12; took a 12 in these. Soles have a good grip and use for walking on trails, back roads, snow and ice. No breaking in~-comfortable right out of the box. Highly recommend.

Great fit and great looking shoe. Merrell's are my go to. Always comfortable and they're sturdy.

excellent LIGHT WEIGHT hiking boot. We had to order a 1/2 size larger, since this men's boot and the women's also run too short. No break in required which is a major plus for this boot.

These boots rock! First time purchasing these awesome shoes that are so comfortable and the support is excellent. Live in the mountains and needed a good sturdy pair of hiking boots. The day they arrived I was so psyched and wore them right out of the box to walk my dog for 3 miles. I highly recommend these boots!

Firm fit in the heel with good arch support. Plenty of room for the toes. A medium width boot would have fit fine but I chose a wide boot which in my opinion is more comfortable.

Had to replace old REI hiking boots so I tried Vasque, Champion, and several others. It took a lot of back and forth with Zappos to get the right boots with the right fit, but it was easy to do and in the end worth it. These come in wide so the toe box is roomy and the fit is comfortable. I would still order up a half size to accommodate heavier socks. They were also able to fit my orthotics when I replaced the removable insoles and still be comfortable. The outside of the boot is more of a raw leather look, not polished, may not be able to see that in the picture, but are supposed to be waterproof. Looking forward to getting on the trails with these.

Very comfortable! Right off the bat I liked these boots. Tried a few other pair from different MFGs. These won! I'm replacing my old pair. Hiking in the Smokies! Love it.

Couldn't wear for long because of wrong size.
