As other reviewers have noted, the toe box creases when you walk putting painful pressure across your toes/top of foot. The fit was perfect and they felt fine standing but as soon as you would proceed to walk they would bend above the toes and be too painful to walk in. Love Zappos though so I can continue to look for the perfect boot with free shipping and returns.

These got me through a week in Iceland and kept me warm, dry, and comfortable through hikes, wind, and cold. It was between 30 and 40 degrees Fahrenheit during the trip, some rain, a lot of mud, trekking through snow and a glacier hike (with crampons) and these shoes did the trick and barely got dirty. At the end of hikes my feet were definitely sore, and my toes felt cold a couple times but when I moved around they warmed up, so I don't blame the shoes. They're not super flexible in the ankle but that probably kept me from falling. I'm usually a 7.5 or 8 and these were an 8 and perfect with thick socks. Durable, water-proof, and lightweight for long hikes. Great shoes!

I was going to return these, but decided to put some orthotics in there to see if that would work. It seems to do the trick. Heel support is excellent, but one reason I was considering returning is due to the ball of the foot area. If you have any issues with metatarsals or need extra padding in that part of the foot, these boots may or may not work. I normally wear neutral foot strike sneakers, so there is no smooth rolling with these boots. I got them strictly for hiking and need something I can hike more than a few miles in. The quality of the construction is phenomenal. The boot is not as stiff as you may think a boot would be, so the suede is very yielding. If you have a normal foot, then you will love these. They also work with orthotics.

I've tried a lot of different hiking shoes on lately and these are hands down the best. They have good ankle support but literally feel like a sneaker. I thought I'd have to do some major breaking in before taking them out for a good hike but I actually didn't at all. And come on, what a classic look for a hiking shoe. For the price, the comfort, and the quality, you just can't beat it. Also I have a wide foot but ordered the M and it fits just fine.

I bought these shoes based on other reviewers' comments that the toe box was wide. I would not describe the toe box as wide. I ordered a Medium width and the toe box was just wide enough for my narrow foot. There is enough depth for custom orthotics that are not too thick, but if you have any foot issue needing a wider-than-usual toe box, this is not the shoe for you. It is a very nice looking shoe (for a water-proof boot), and it was comfortable--between a hiking boot and sneaker feel. I wish it would have worked for me.

If I could give these 10 stars I would ! I can't believe it but in two days I have TWO pair of boots that fit and feel great out of the box. I have never put on a pair of boots ever that felt good . Never. Now I discover Columbia boots and I have TWO pairs. And I just ordered a pair of the Rainey boots too :) Great forefoot room and plenty of depth in the toe box so my hammertoes are not even touching the top of the boot. Padded and comfy. I haven't tried putting in my own custom orthotics. I will see how these new boots do without them. I sure am pleased and suggest anyone with bunions, metatarsalgia and hammertoes give Columbia footwear a look.

These were SUPER comfy especially being the first time I wore them brand new out of the box, I was a little worried that they'd feel a little stiff without first breaking them in but they were great. We hiked along sandy trails and had minimal sand in my shoe at the end of the day compared to the girls who wore hiking shoes. Did some climbing on rock formations and didn't feel a thing. Loved that these were super budget friendly AND they did the job just nicely for my trip! FYI, I hiked in these at Horseshoe Bend and Antelope Canyon - spent about 10 hours in these beauties with no complaints :)

These fit true to size for me and were comfortable for a week long trip to Iceland in August. They kept my feet dry (even when I accidentally stepped into a stream at one point) and had great traction. My feet were kept warm without being too hot, most of the time - but the weather was steady drizzle/50 degrees F for most of our trip, which probably helped. Easy to wipe clean while traveling, but I plan to toss the shoelaces in a mesh laundry bag and give the shoes themselves a good scrub now that I'm home.

Comfortable once broken in. I have had them less than a year. Unfortunately, they dye my socks and feet blue if they do get wet and when I need to rinse off diet or mud they run blue water. Great boot but not water proof. Wouldn't use the colored boots for hiking or work if you do not want things dyed blue around you. Blue on the picture is after shower and sugar scrub

Some years back I had a sport-related injury. I tore my calf muscle. After that injury, my affected leg started to get swollen – ankle, top of the foot, and the toes (maybe the calf too, but it is not as noticeable). Doctors said that my second foot will join this disaster because everything is connected... which it did within 2-3 years. On top of that, I gained weight. My shoe size depending on the brand and shoe design is 9.5W-10W or 10M-10.5M. Fast-forward to today I was looking for rain shoes. Obviously I went one size up for boots and ordered UGG rain boots in size 11M, several great looking waterproof stylish Chaco boots in size 11M, and Minx Shorty Columbia boots in size 11M as well. The reason I am giving these details is to help you choose the size of these Columbia boots correctly. So... I could not even put on the rain boots – my foot got stuck on the way in. Chaco were very tight from the top. Columbia boots were OK, but a little tight from the top and had a lot of space in front of my toes. Determined, I went on shopping again, trying to choose wisely this time. In the second attempt, one of my choices fell on Columbia Newton Ridge Plus Waterproof Amped size 10.5W and the second was Aravon Fairlee Mid Boot size 11M. Needless to say: like a child I was impatiently waiting for my package. I first grabbed Aravon Fairlee Mid Boot and squeezed my feet into them and walked around. They fit soooo tight! Don’t get me wrong – those are excellent boots, phenomenal. I wish they fit, but sadly, I had to put them away. When my right foot slid into Columbia Newton Ridge – “Mommy, I am home!”, it said to me. Then, it didn’t want to get out of this boot. It wanted to marry it and stay together forever. I said to my foot that now it can get naked, remove the sock, and see if it still feels the same way. My foot was ecstatic. Sock off and… soft springy sole, softness all around, comfort, and happiness finally overpowered my right foot and it cried. My left foot, meanwhile was impatient. When it finally reached its proposed soulmate (solemate) , the marriage was consummated right there and then. I walked and my feet were the happiest gals in the world.

I went hiking in these bad boys for 7 miles and they handled it all! My feet were totally comfy all the way through. The fit was just perfect! I’m in love with these and I’m more than happy that I made the decision to get them. It doesn’t hurt that they’re also soooo cute! Definitely the cutest hiking shoes I’ve ever owned.

Three years ago I bought a pair of Columbia hiking boots (brown with orange laces). Since then, these boots have been through 15 states a few thousand miles of hiking and city walking and just general travel. I love these boots and I live in these boots no matter the season, but the inside just was not nearly as comfortable lately because, as with all shoes, they eventually just fall flat. So meet my new pair of Columbia boots (green with pink) and then fit perfectly. I truly look forward to the same longevity with many new adventures. Thank you Columbia for providing consistent sizing, materials, and quality with your products. Now for an adventure to break them in!

I have very finicky feet, so I NEVER buy shoes online, but I was having trouble finding hiking boots in person that felt good, so I took a chance on these based on the positive reviews, knowing I could return them for free if needed. I am a solid size 8, though I bump up to an 8.5 for running shoes, so I was a little torn on what size to get. Since I knew I'd be wearing these with thick hiking socks, I opted to start with the 8.5, again knowing I could exchange if needed, and it ended up being a perfect fit. I wore them around the house for a few days to make sure they would work well, but if I'm being honest, I knew they were great from the moment I put them on that first time. I took them out on an 8-mile mountain hike yesterday to test them out, and they did very well for me. Good grip on a trail that was muddy in some spots from rain the day before. I did end up slipping on one very steep and muddy section, but I'm not sure there was any way around that -- it's not like my sneakers would have handled that any better. I did get a minor hot spot on my little toe until I stopped to reposition the seam of my sock. I couldn't even feel that hot spot a few hours later, so I do think it was related to sock positioning and not the boots themselves.

My first impression of these boots was “wow! These are really cute!” Not that I was looking for style in a hiking boot but it was a pleasant surprise. I took them on their first hike this morning. I was originally concerned that the wide width was not going to be wide enough when I first tried them on. However, after hiking in them I may have confused the stiffness of the hiking boot with feeling too small. Overall, for the price, this is a great boot. There is a perfect amount of stiffness versus support. The ankles felt stable while walking on uneven ground. they do not appear super clunky and oversized like most boots. I like many others, ordered a half a size larger to wear with thicker socks and this worked out perfect! Five stars!

Finally cute hiking boots that provide much needed ankle and arch support. I've hiked all types of terrains in the last twelve months with them, and they are great in water, sand, snow/ice, loose gravel, dirt, tall grasses. If I've fallen it's because I'm clumsy, but overall the boots have provided much needed stability, I haven't had a sprained ankle since I started hiking with them. The outer boot material is tough and it is waterproof, although I wish that extended to the tongue. Boot is amazing!

I had read the reviews of those whose boots had a painful crease across the top of their toes that became evident when walking in them. I like the style and thought I’d give them a try—hoping I’d get a pair that was comfortable and I could keep. Unfortunately, when I walked in them I found that one of the boots in the pair I received had the dreaded crease across the top of my toes. The crease made it uncomfortable to wear the boots around the house for even a few minutes, so they’re being returned.

I love these boots. I got the Aegean Blue and it is fantastic! But the fit is why I kept them--they are padded enough inside and have soft enough uppers to allow wearing them all day. I was worried about breaking them in before my hiking vacation, but they have been comfortable right out of the box. I highly recommend these.

These kept me cozy in the cold rain and kept my ankles stable on a mountain hike, just as I'd hoped. The only issues were a poorly-placed fold in the leather that hit my toe painfully (solved by lacing the shoes less tightly in the front), and also my pinky toes rubbed a bit against the outside. Consider ordering up a half-size. I'm hoping the leather relaxes. Overall I am still very satisfied.

Felt very sturdy in these boots hiking through Alberta Canada. Walked uphill and downhill through mud and rocks in the rain and stayed warm and dry. They look a little clownish with the bright red laces and the fact I have big feet, but I like them. I have bunions on my right foot so after a few hours of hiking I would start to feel the tightness, but still a more comfortable shoe for this sort of activity than anything else I’ve owned.

I hiked the Inca trail in Peru 4 days 3 nights. We also did Rainbow Mountain. My feet did not hurt and they stayed dry (in part of the trail you hike through jungle). I have issues with plantar fasciitis and I tolerated hiking all those miles.

Good material, comfortable, and light! Also, it looks exactly the same as the photos. I got it in Deep Wave, Red Coral size 6 (my most worn size) for my 22.5cm*9cm feet and it fits well with room for more than one finger. Hope it works super for a hike as well. ;)

I have never tried Columbia boots or shoes before, but now I am sold on this hiking boot. Perfect fit, well made and a great value compared to other big brands. I am buying another pair! I actually bought these for garden and yard work with good ankle support. I like the lacing system so I can get just the right fit for my one leg with issues--nearly 3 years ago and still recovering from a freak fall when broke/shattered both bones in lower leg, 6 inpatient surgeries in 9 months and a very tender foot which is learning to wear shoes again. Throughout it all, Zappos has been a HUGE part of my Care Team as I have ordered and tried and then bought a variety of comfort shoes as well as loose style pants. I can't thank ZAPPOS enough for the expedited shipping and always free shipping and returns! I always come back to Zappos because they were the first free-shipping online shoe retailer. And consistently over the many years I have been a customer, they are reliable and cheerful! And your notification messages always brighten my day! Thank you!
