I bought these because of the advertised stability. I hoped to experience the HOKA cushion paired with stability and foot guidance I am used to from my ASICS. This was unfortunately not the case. As another reviewer mentioned, they look huge (wide) and then they seem narrow or flat to a point that they compress the blood out of my foot, and your foot gets super hot. I do not give up easily on anything so I did not give up on my pair and figured out the correct lacing technique to allow blood flow into my feet and found a good insole for my arch support and foot guidance. So now in combination I like to run with them, but, yes, just like...not love.
Overall not what I expected hence my low rating.

Hoka needs to have shoes with a wider toe box! Please! Doesn't have to be in a Wide, but like the Constant 2's (now sadly discontinued) needs a wider toe box.

This was my second pair of Hoka's. I do not use these shoes for running, but rather high impact aerobics about 4 times a week. I only wore these shoes for one class and sent them back. I have small (size 6) and narrow feet. These shoes immediately felt tight across the mid part of the foot. My feet got extremely hot within the first 10 minutes, so much so I took frequent breaks and did not complete the class so I could take my shoes off. I have done aerobics for 10+ years and Hoka's are my favorite shoe every. I will purchase Hoka's again, just not this style.

These look so wide yet bothered my bunion, which was shocking since I've never had other shoes irritate it. I also found that my toes turned a bit numb, which is a new one for me. The cushioning is great and can't argue it's superior to all other brands, but the fit wasn't right for me. What really got me, though, is the fact that these ugly mothers (they really are not at all cute) are not water-proof or resistant. I can't believe Hoka doesn't offer any type of protection from rain. Given the pricing, these should have umbrellas that automatically shoot out at the first drop. I also am used to speed-lacing, so it's hard to go back.

I'm 61 years old and a huge Hoka fan. I LOVE my Clifton 3's but was excited to try the Gaviota's because I had always worn stability shoes before. I run 25-30 miles a week on road, trail and/or track. I put 50 miles on the Gaviota (with my usual Superfeet inserts), but unfortunately found that on each run the balls of my feet hurt, my toes fell asleep and hot spots sprouted up within a couple of miles. I tried adjusting the shoelaces, changing socks, but nothing worked. They just do not have the ventilation, cush or comfort I've come to love and expect in Hoka shoes. Just to be sure it wasn't my imagination, I ran a 10K race in my Cliftons for comparison. Several hours later I realized I hadn't noticed my feet, unlike after running in the Gaviota where I couldn't wait to take them off. Sadly, they got returned today. So I'm back in my Clifton's cuz, did I mention, I LOVE my Hokas. It's possible I just don't need a stability shoe anymore.

Caused blistering on bottom of inside of foot on first run. Tried a second time, had to stop to take them off and put in old running shoes because it started causing blistering again in same area.

I have not been impressed with this shoe. I ordered on January 11 and need a new pair of shoes as of March 29. Yes, that's correct, the shoes lasted me roughly 2.5 months. For the price paid, I am not happy with the value or quality. The glue is not holding, as the front sole is starting to peal down and body of the shoe is starting to fall apart.

Oh no, how can a hoka shoe be this bad?!?! Where are the shoe quality and subsistence that they are known for?!!!
I wear a 6 in regular shoes and a 7 in running to have that extra room at the end. However, in hoka, I have had to order a 6. So in this pair, I ordered 6...wow! My toe was at the very end and you could literally see my foot bulging through the material!!! So tight! What is going on? And in regards to arch support, yeah, they are stability shoes but specifically inside the shoe itself, I did not feel support under my arch. Ugh. And unfortunately, I think this is the only shoe hoka has now for overpronation!
Hoka...where are your shoes that allow toes to wiggle as they should and have arch support and cushion for our feet that take a pounding and even just weight everyday?!?! So so disappointed. Why do y’all change or get rid of shoes that “aren’t broken”?
Also, the shoe shape...ugh. I love hoka and so I am fully aware of the thick heal and all. But this shoe, wow, well it’s even hard to describe...basically putting on large blocks as far as shape. Would not recommend, ever

I have tiny feet and these made my feet look massive! They are just plain goofy in how they look. Felt like I had a platypus on my feet. Hoka One One you are failing me! I thought they were mens shoes when I opened the box. Hoka use to be my go-to always and now they have discontinued the shoes (Constant 2's) that fit and didn't look like I was wearing refrigerator boxes on my feet. Immediately went back.

Product was not as expected. I thought this would well to support my arches but they are very low and I didn't want to have to add additional support.

I'm just devastated that Hoka has become so unrealiable. After FOUR YEARS of recovering from tendinitis, I discovered Hoka Infinites and could finally run again. 5ks and my favorite, half-marathons, were possible again. I ran them in my Infinities with no problems, and went through two pairs in the past few years.
Well, even good shoes come to an end, my poor Inifinites are at the end of their life. So, I was devastated to find Hoka no longer makes them. My local running store recommend Bondis. I took them home and guess what? My tendinitis came back within two week - my ankle was in agony!
So I took those back, called Hoka, and they recommend the Gaviotas. I decided to embrace change and try them. I did, and they are not worth my time. The biggest problem is that even though they are the same size as my Infinities, 8s, they fit much tighter in the toebox - as though the toebox is now tighter and shorter than previous models. My toes do swell and feel tight n my shoes after long runs and/or on hot days, but not as soon as I put them on! But with the Gaviotas, that is exactly what happened.
Hoka, it was fun while it lasted. If you ever bring the previous Infinite model back, give me a call. Otherwise, best of luck.

I had high hopes for Hoka Gaviota based on reviews. Cushioning did help with "ball of foot" pain; however, I did not anticipate the extreme calf pain/strain caused by switching from Brooks Glycerin shoe differential drop of 10 mm to Hoka Gaviota shoe differential drop of 5 mm. I was never able to adjust to these shoes and the calf pain worsened. I researched my problem and learned from Runner's World that the average shoe differential drop is 10 mm to 12 mm. Runner's World said runners reported injuries and severe pain from wearing a shoe with a low differential drop. Apparently I am one of those people that can't wear this type of a shoe. In the future, I will stick to shoes with a differential drop of 10 mm. Thanks to Zappos for their return policy.
I'd also recommend:

Terribly disappointed. If there was a 'no star' option this company would be getting it. I have purchased their shoes in the past but this particular shoe I purchased from a store in another town. After a couple of months of light usage, the heal on one of the shoes failed. The plastic started deforming, bending into my heal causing serious blisters. I returned them to Hoka and was given a credit. No longer will they provide any help/support over the phone. In return, I will no longer purchase Hoka One One. Terrible customer service.

The Gaviota is fabulous, incredibly comfortable. My reason for the low rating is color availability. For some reason, the company feels women who wear a wide shoe do not merit any color other than blue.

The Anthacite / Color is very dull and not bright like it is shown on the website. I wish the women's shoes had brighter colors.

My feet initially felt like in heaven on run, although half way through my toes on both feet went tingly. Walked the next day in them and made my feet ache. Couldn't wait to to send back! Please bring back the conquest! geez!
