Disappointed. So, I debated long and hard on deciding on which boots to get, AE Higgins Mill or Grant Stone Diesel. I decided on the AE since they were supposed to be American made and so called better quality. I paid full price thinking if they were what they were suppose to be I would be okay. Well, I was wrong. The first sign that something was wrong was the box the came in was torn up. The shoe bags they were in was dirty and soiled. The leather was scuffed and strange markings on them. The boots were worn and showed the creases on them. And lastly, they were different heights!!! So, yeah, I'm disappointed in their quality and service. I would of been okay if they were seconds and I paid that price of a second boot. Go with the Grant Stone people. American made ain't what it used to be.

This runs a little wide/large, but not enough for me to bother returning them. Very comfortable, quick break-in, look great, etc. Might pick up a pair in black at some point...

My first foray into the highish end shoe/boot world was the Higgins Mill. Runs a little large, so had to go a half size down. I've had them for a few weeks now and they are as comfortable and stylish as can be. I love them.

Great looking comfortable boot. I find all AE run 1/2 size large.

I am normally an 8.5 or 9. I ordered an 8.5. It is still large but I just wear thicker socks.

What more is there? AE has no compare. This is my sixth pair of shoes/boots from Allen Edmonds. No complaints. My one and only regret in moving from Milwaukee to San Diego 35 years ago is the inability to visit the Port Washington AE outlet!

The Higgins Mill boot is a great looking and comfortable boot that offers a casual compromise between a boot and dress shoe - with classic style. They have a rugged yet refined look that goes great with Khakis or jeans and don't make you look like you set out to hike in the Dolomites but ended up at the grocery store by mistake. The Chromexel leather is great stuff - started out slightly stiff but is breaking in and promises to be a great fitting boot. I broke these in on a vacation - walking the Cliff Walk in Newport, RI for 2-3 miles and the boots were perfectly comfortable out of the box. They do run a little wide for me - I usually wear a 11E (AE 65 last) or 11D (last dependent) and these are a little wider than I have seen in most AE shoes. Overall - great shoe - highly recommend!!!

This is an excellent boot. I ordered it one size wider than my usual for Allen Edmonds because I thought a little extra room would equate to a little extra comfort. In hindsight I didn't need to do that and it is probably a tiny bit too wide for me, but it is still the most comfortable boot I have ever worn so I'll keep it. I wore it for a couple mile walk the day it arrived and several times since and I feel like I am walking on clouds. My advice, sample size of one, is to just order your Brannock size. The fit and finish of this boot is as expected for the type of leather. It had a few wrinkles and scuffs, but that is the nature of the leather, not an issue with quality control. Overall with the right sizing and the correct expectations for chromexel leather this is an amazing boot and I can't recommend it highly enough.

Great fit right out of the box. First got the brown then instantly got the black and light tan pair. Think high end Wolverine 1000 Mile. More substantial and secure. Dainite sole is the way to go. Roomy toe box and secure heel. All 3 breaking in well. Throwing out the cheap stuff I had. Best lace up boots I've ever had, and they are AE! It's all here and they are super handsome. Dave in Iowa.

Allen Edmonds makes a quality shoe in my hard to find size, 11-1/2 B. I have about 12 pair of their shoes and it's great to have beautiful shoes that fit perfectly. These boots are beautiful and comfortable. The can be worn for business or casual.

I bought the boot in the natural color in 9d (normally wear 9.5d in AE). I love the boot except for the tongue on the left boot moves to the side not long after putting on. It should have been attached to one side. It is a very comfortable boot and breaks in fast.

I have quite a few AE shoes, Strands in 3 colors, 5th Ave's, 1st Ave boots, Overlord's, etc. The Higgins Mill is near the top as far as my favorite AE's to wear. Comfortable, works well for business casual, even dresses up okay for a bad weather day, but also dresses down great for Friday night or the weekends. My only suggestion would be for AE to tack the tongue to one side of the boot. My left boot is fine, but the tongue on the right boot has a tendency to slide to the side which causes the laces to cut into my shin. I have read that I can have someone tack the tongue to the side of the boot or even glue it in place on one side. Seems to be a widespread issue so maybe something for AE to consider doing from the factory.

This is my 11th pair of AE'S. Usually purchase a 10E, but I bought the Higgins Mill in 9.5E. Construction is on par with what I've grown to expect from AE but the chromexcel did come with some "dents" . Strangely it didn't bother me like it would on a pair of Strands or McAllisters. First thing I did after unboxing was apply a coat of Venetian Shoe Cream and gave it a good brushing. The CXL really takes a nice sheen and I'm looking forward to seeing the patina develop. I also have Saphir Greasy Leather Cream but will wait a couple months before applying. Wore them for 5 hrs the first day and felt absolutely no discomfort. The suede tongue is a nice touch.

My husband growled at first because he is so used to his shoes being broken in before he puts them on his tender feet! BUT, he wore them about three times and all of sudden, he loved these boots. I loved them at first sight just because they are made so well. These are the kind of shoes that a guy gets and wears for 40 years! They look great and re so versatile. Make your man break in a shoe Ladies! it's well worth it. The fit is perfect as well.

On the plus side, this boot's wide toe box gives your feet plenty of room to spread out making them comfortable, and probably healthy, to wear. In addition, the chrome excel leather took no time to break in while the dainite soles hold up well on rainy days. On the down side, however, these boots are neither water repellent nor insulated making them useless in snow and they are too dressy for use in mud or other rough conditions. Also, the wide foot bed gives the feeling of walking on a tennis racket with a big sheet strung over your foot to hold it in place. They are not dressy enough for formal business wear so I only wear them when not seeing customers. Over all there are better boots, sneakers, shoes out there that are more comfortable and useful under varied weather conditions. A note on maintenance: don't use regular waxes and cremes to polish chrome excel. Instead, treat them with Saphir Greasy Leather Cream and buff with either a horsehair or pig bristle brush. I find pig bristle works a little better. When the Greasy Leather Cream dries, I use Saphir Mirror Gloss to put a shine on the toe and heels. They're fairly easy to maintain.

Bought this in downtown Manhattan Allen Edmonds at the brookfiels Place. Salesman recommended for me to use the brown carnuba wax polish. Long story short. It ended up ruining the boot. DO NOT USE A WAX BASED POLISH. It will dry and crack the boot color in a very ugly way. Ive tried everything to get it off. It will never look the same. I dont even wear them anymore. Such a shame. Its extremely comfortable. I use it when im working around the house or backyard. The salesman should have known better. Especially when i spent 700$ on shoes and accessories in one visit.

I've never owned a boot/shoe that is so fragile and is completely unwearable after 3 months because the color wears off and scratches at the slightest touch. Heed my advice and invest in a different pair of boots!!!

What is happening to AE? I wish I could post pictures because there is no way this pair passed QC. There is a quarter size dent at the top of the toe and the left boot has this extreme lean inward. The left boot appears as though it was built at a 45 degree angle.
