This was my second pair of Altra shoes. Since my first purchase in 2014, Altra has made a minor but important change to sizing. Both shoes were purchased using American sizing of women's 9.5. The difference was in the was European equivalent size. The 2014 Intuition 1.5 was 9.5/43 and the Golden Spike was 9.5/41. So am not surprised that these shoes are too small.
Looking at the most American to European equivalent charts, 9.5 should be equivalent to 43. So am not sure what's up with the Altra's sizing. As a European 41 should be an American 8.5.
It might make sense to include the shoes European size in addition to the American size, which would allow customers to make better decisions on fit.
Additionally, I concur with another reviews remark about the stiffness of the material and how uncomfortable the seams felt. Of course, this was magnified by the shoe being a touch to tight. It felt like I was wearing plastic shoes. So as much as I loved my Intuitions 1.5, I really dislike the Golden Spike and will be returning them.

These shoes give blisters to my daughter all the time even after 6 months of use, they still hurt her feet. I love Altra and she has other Altra but these spikes are not good yet.

This was the back-up pair for a like pair my son wore during the cross country season. Straight out of the box, they were worn in the state championship race with excellent results.

Finally, a shoe that feels right. This shoe lets your body run how it wants to run. The zero drop platform and natural foot spread is already a winning combo, but the low stack height and low weight put the Golden Spike in a league of its own. Long, short, fast, slow, steep, flat... this shoe does it all. At last I feel one with the earth under my feet. Please, Altra, keep making this shoe!

I wish Altra made more shoes like this one. I bought it for use on icey trails in the winter - the spikes worked superbly. I'm going to miss them as it warms up because I love the light feel they have on my feet. My superiors feel heavy in comparison and I hope Altra makes a shoe without a spike plate that can serve this unmet mid teens stack height market. I've also worn through a pair of King MTs - they don't come close to the lightness of feel that the golden spikes provide.

I have been BLESSED with the ONLY shoes that help me walk more normally due to ALL the support. I had a stroke at birth. I am 78 years young, walk about 10 miles a day volunteering at Estes Park Medical Center for about 30 hours each week.

I purchased and returned the spikes because of 77 yr old knees. I have a pair of Torin and the 1 and love Both. Torin=traning, the 1 = competition RW and sr sprints. I had no knee problems with them. Without cushioning I injured my rt knee and am trying to work past that now. Have also ordered Casual for daily wear. Is padding in the spikes un-doable? I tried thin memory foam but did not work.

This is the most comfortable track spike I have ever worn, and I have used many. The wide toe box is heavenly.

Purchased this shoe to walk on the snow/ice in Chicago. Spikes work great on ice . Will buy this shoe again. Very easy to replace the track spikes.

I wanted a flat shoe for running and this is it! These shoes are made of a very thin material. They seem to be holding up okay though. I have pavement to run on so these do work for me but would be great for a track course.

We had to return to get smaller size, it is not clearly labeled on the site that these shoes are in unisex sizing. I ordered an 8 for my daughter, it was a women's 9.5. I reordered a 6.5, but only available in the pink/yellow. I hope it is still unisex, and not a women's 6.5...
The shoe is amazingly light and comfortable when tried on inside the house, but she was not able to actually get a feel for it.
My son wore the same spikes during his XC career in high school, and had to take the spike out of the 1st metatarsal region (the ball of the foot). He complained that a spike in that location was very painful when foot strike was on rocks or pavement (some of their courses crossed golf cart paths, gravel, etc).
I would recommend Altra look at moving this particular spike.

For whatever reason where the lacing ends it bites the top of my foot. Where your big toe connects to your foot it tends to pinch the top of that knuckle. It handles track races and speed work well as well as xc races. Great platform to run on, very light, very fast

feels really good if you have wide feet and its probably me but it feels weird running with a shoe that actually has zero drops but once I got used to it after a short run to test them out I got used to it pretty quick. if you have no arch at all like me you might have a problem depending on how you feel but for me with no arch at all, I really like the shoe so far.

This was a little too narrow for me -- but I wasn't ready for the weird outside material. kind of leatherish is the best way I can describe it.

I use this shoe as an approach shoe for mountaineering. It works great on steep dirt and vegetated slopes and weighs next to nothing when it's time to throw them in my pack and switch to my boots.

So upset about durability on these shoes. Wore once early in year and finally ran in them again for a USTFA event and after noticed they already had a hole in the outside if the upper. Even with hearing so many people talk about durability issues with Altras and I've never had upper issues until these. I only run in Altras. Besides the durability issue the Golden Spikes are light, responsive and fast.

Had to return it as the shoe had zero support for my foot. It started to hurt the first day I walked in it.

Crazy tight just behind the toe area (right in front of the laces) I used to fit into every pair of Altras in my size, but this year 3 of 3 pairs have the same problem. I am very disappointed in Altra. What is the point of a roomy toe box if the middle of the shoe pinches like crazy? They did look nice and felt light for running, but unwearable for me
