Great shoe for someone with hallux rigidus. It has all the requirements of a wide toe box, firm sole, good cushioning and rocker bottom. Order a size up if you use orthotics.

I recently underwent foot surgery for hallux rigidis and 3 months post op, was looking for a max cushioned shoe that would not irritate my toe joint which is still slightly swollen and sore. The rocker bottom and wider, foot-shaped toe bed worked very well for me. I would also recommend the shoe for anyone suffering from bone spurs in their heel or anyone who is on their feet all day. They also give very good traction. Based on other reviews, I ordered 1/2 size up to wear indoors and the shoe fits very well. I liked the shoe so much I immediately ordered a second pair, this time 1 whole size up to wear for outdoor walking and exercise as I live where it's very hot and humid much of the year. Both pairs wound up working well for me; it is personal preference as to whether to order 1/2 to one whole size upwards.

Best athletic shoe that I've found yet! I have arthritis in my toes which makes my feet hurt all the time. These shoes provide relief, especially in the ball of foot area. I did have to exchange for a half size larger, and recommend anyone who needs lots of toe room to order up. These are my go to everyday shoe, makes walking on hard floors no problem!

I wanted to give these shoes a try in hopes of no longer having to wear orthotics for arch support. The wide toe box has allowed me to work on using my toes for support more, in hopes of strengthening my arches and no longer needing support. The shoes are very comfortable...almost like walking on a cloud. They are a bit clunky looking, but still look OK with a pair of jeans. My orthotics do not fit in the shoes very well, but hopefully I won't need them much longer. There is no arch support at all.

I have been on a search for a shoe that would help my Morton's neuroma. This shoe is perfect. It cushions my whole foot and will be my walking shoe for our travels. The toe box gives ample room for making your toes happy. Thank you Altra for making such a cushioned but light shoe.

I loved everything about this shoe except the fit. I generally wear a size 8 1/2 to a 9, so knowing this ran small I order a 9 1/2. Eeek, the shoe runs a whole size, plus, small. Will order a larger size.

Great cushioning for problem feet. I have a neuroma and this shoe helps with the discomfort. I am glad that Altra is making some models that aren't in the really bright colors. For people with problem feet, we need to wear these with everyday clothes, so more tame colors would be great.

I have been trying to find a shoe that will fit while recovering from foot surgery. I read a lot of Altra reviews and thought this would be a good match for the problems I have currently. I was skeptical though because I have tried zero drop shoes before and didn't like them. Reviewers commented that the shoe takes time to break in so I was prepared for that. I put the shoes on as soon as I took them out of the box and did not want to take them off. In fact, I've had them for a couple of weeks now and have barely taken them off except to sleep! My feet are so happy. They are very cushioned but still supportive. I have a lot of foot pain from wide ball of foot and recent corrective surgery for some of the problems. My foot is still swollen and no shoe feels particularly good right now except for the Altras. Love them! Even after I am fully healed, I think I will stick with them. I only wish I had found them years ago. I think they are marked B width but for my feet, they feel as good as a D or E at the ball of the foot because of the shoe contour.

I've been looking for a good walking shoe forever and came across these on Zappos. I read all the reviews and thought I'd give it a try. The shoes came rather quick, I believe 2 or 3 days. I tried them on immediately and loved the way they felt on my feet. I normally wear an 8, so I got an 8 1/2, because a lot of reviewers indicated that they ran a little small. I didn't really have that experience and they're pretty much true to size for me. I kept them because I don't really mind the extra room in the toe box because I can wear my wool socks while hiking. They kind of remind me of those goofy looking sketchers that were popular a few years back. I don't care how they look to be honest, I just want to be comfortable while I'm out and about. I have a medium width foot and have been wearing Saucony sneakers for the most part because they have liberal room in the toe box. I wore these in the woods the day after receiving them and did a 6 mile hike. They stood up pretty well while climbing rocks and inclines in various wooded areas. The Altras didn't miss a beat! One thing I want to mention is that they "roll" on the sneaker different than most running/walking shoes so you may need a few days to acclimate to the shoe design. These Altras allow your foot to "strike" the ground naturally without impeding you natural strike. I don't have any serious foot issues, so those in need of supporting prosthetics may want to look into the shoe a little further. I'm pretty happy with my purchase so far and will update as needed.

I am thrilled with these shoes. Wear them for support and walking when I'm going to be on my feet a lot and have no stress or discomfort when wearing my new Altras! They really accommodate my toes which have many weird issues and these shoes allow them room to move around and be free. So happy I discovered your line!

The Altra Paradigm has been a true lifesaver for my feet and regaining the ability to walk. I wear with "soft" orthotics - a padded arch support plus a heel cup. The fit is perfect and custom to my needs. I wear the Altra Paradigm every day. It is my go-to shoe for everything. Intend to own all three shoe color options to rotate shoes. Thanks Zappos for offering Altra shoes in the Paradigm model!

I love altra shoes. I have a neoroma and other foot problems and these shoes (with my orthotics) have helped more than any others. I have a pair of Altra Torin in a 9.5, but I had to order a 10 in this style.

A little heavier duty than I was looking for. The Lone Peak 3 is my winner. I marked these true to size because I wear a 10.5 in most running shoes, and this 10.5 fit. (In dress shoes, I wear a 9 or 9.5)

Gorgeous, but narrower than other Altra shoes, so unfortunately they must go back.

I loved the first version of this shoe and wore it in my normal size, 8.5. This version requires me to buy a 9.5 for it to fit like the first version of this same shoe! This one, even at the larger size, is a bit narrower through the arch. I wish they would go back to the original style which gave me that "natural" foot strike. However, of their current shoes (I've had to try almost all of them to try to get a good fit), this is my favorite.

This is a great shoe because of the wide toe box. I am not a runner but walk on average five or more miles a day. This is my fourth pair.

I love these shoes. They are cushioned well and allow me to run without causing my hallux rigidus to hurt. I am wearing them daily right now to help with tendinitis in my foot. My only complaint is they run very small. My toes touch the end of the shoe in an 11. They don't make an 11 1/2. I did buy a 12 but right now can't run due to tendinitis so not sure if the 12 will be too big or just right.

Bought the same size at my pair of Lone Peak 2.0, but these were much tighter across the top of my foot. The tongue couldn't even cover all of my skin. Length was fine. I will try going up a half size and hope that it gives enough space across the top without adding too much to the length.

Usually I wear a 10.5 in Altra, however these wear too big in the heel making my foot push forward to the edge. It was shallow in height and pressed down on my toes so I didn't keep them. I noticed all the issues immediately. I got them to help with Neuroma after other reviews and I think they would if your sizing is good. I wear a 9/9.5 normally, but 10.5 in Nike and Asics for reference.

My forefoot is wider so others have suggested I try Altra. I did like the extra room in the toes, but they felt too long, about half a size.
I also have arch issues and could feel my foot rolling inward when I was trying these around the house. I have tried other Altras as well and they just don't work for me, thankfully with zappos awesome shipping/returns, i can continue my hunt for the perfect running shoe.

I was initially pleased with the new Paradigm2. It felt and ran like the Paradigm 1.5, but now less than 75 miles later, they are as worn out as my Paradigm 1.5 shoes that have over 400 miles. $130 for a pair of shoes that are worn out before 100 miles is ridiculous.
I'm giving a 2 star rating only because they're the most comfortable shoes I've found for my running.
I'm looking 'REAL' hard for something else though.

My podiatrist recommended this brand because he said it runs wide. Not wide enough for me despite ordering a full size larger. Had to return them.
