I bought this shoe because we are moving to Alaska and Danner is a recommended hiking boot. I don't like heavy shoes and this style was described as being more shoe like in fit. I often wear a size 9, which I ordered, but it fit too snug at the toe and on the sides of the toe box. I also felt like I was pronating in it. Unsure if I was really going to like the shoe I tried a 9.5. The difference was dramatic. I have plenty of room and I don't feel like I'm pronating either. I haven't actually worn these yet except around the house. My favorite feature other than how attractive they are is that the sole is flexible. Unlike my Keen hiking shoes, which have their own merits, these boots do feel like a regular shoe. So my foot moves instead of being locked in a coffin all day. I'm looking forward to breaking them in.
I'd also recommend:

In particular ill speak of the fine craftsmanship that goes into every pair of boots ive used, and to be honest its two pair. Fact is I purchased these two pair, One brown leather 3 inches below the knee, still as soft as calf leather, and the other and inch below the knee and made of leather and material. I know sounds typical. This is September 30th 2017 and i purchased them in October of 2002. Treads are perfect, no tears in the leather, and in both pair in temps under 10 below for over 10 t0 15 hours. These boots have traveked millions of miles, and been through every type of terrain from the Rokies ,The smokies, Adirondacks, you name it, theyve never let me down and warm. Comfortable. Too bad the Marine Corps didnt issue these babies. Good site Great product lines.
I'd also recommend:

Love the vibrant sole, the classic hiker look. Quality materials. BUT my main reason for returning is that after some wear (several Miles) the ankle rubbed so bad I get swollen/bruising on the outside of my ankle. Also, they keep your feet dry from Outside elements, but the drawback is holding moisture in regardless of your wicking socks. Felt great at home, but after a few miles the rubbing was such a hindrance! So bad that I changed my gait - not good for distance hiking.

Somewhat pointy toe box--it bothered my left big toe.. Arch support noticeable (and more than I prefer) but not painful. Very comfortable around the ankles. Size 7.5 light brown with grey laces seemed on the small side. I wish this shoe were available in non-waterproof. They definitely left my feet damp after wearing around the house for 15 minutes.

There is no better hiking boot. Very comfortable right out of the box and have only gotten better as I've worn them in. I've now hiked ~200 miles on these, including backpacking trips and 16 mile long day hikes. These don't cause blisters and offer just the right amount of support - sturdy enough that you can walk through anything, but you can also feel the ground beneath you (particularly handy when on gravel or rocks). I have some minor bunions and these are overall very comfortable. These are also pretty waterproof. I was concerned about my feet getting hot in these since they do not have ventilation - they do get hot when it's hot outside but it's really not a big deal. I've owned these for about 3 years and expect to keep them for at least 5 more (although I will change out the insoles as the shoe gets packed out). One piece of advice - make sure you look up the cleaning instructions and actually oil these, I did not do this for my first ~20 hikes and the leather on the toes got dried out and doesn't look as good as it could (and will probably have a shorter lifespan because of cracking). I purchased these boots and the red laces separately and re-laced them. When I eventually need new hiking boots I will 100% buy these again - cannot recommend enough. Recommend pairing these with Darn Tough hiking socks for the perfect set-up.

These boots might be the best shoes of any kind I have ever bought! (And I am NOT young.) We travel overseas every May, and boots have worked out best for me because we walk a lot in cities, towns, hills, natural areas, etc. I like good support, comfort, and water-proofing, and these did not disappoint. They are so comfortable and supportive that after hiking or walking, I often forget I have them on and wear them all day, even when relaxing or working at home. I usually have problems relative to wide toes and a narrow heel, but these fit perfectly. I bought mine a couple of years ago, and at that time there was a brown leather style (I think) which I first ordered. I loved them but was disappointed that the fit wasn't perfect in my size (7). So I tried the 7 1/2, and it was just too loose. I then ordered the ones in the suede-ish material in 7. Nirvana! comfort and support in every single spot of my foot. I discovered that I feel better all over when my feet feel good, wearing a super-comfortable, cool-looking, supportive boot. Important: if these still come in more than one color, remember that there could be a slight difference in the fit from one to the other.

Maybe I had too high of expectations for these based on reviews but I was a bit disappointed… I have the Columbia newton ridge boots and I put one of each on my feet and my husband couldn’t tell the difference from a few feet away. The feel was also not that different either: my Columbias have been worn a ton so they’re not QUITE as cushy now, but I expected, for the price, the danners would be significantly more comfortable. And they really felt nearly the exact same. This will be my 3rd winter with the Columbias and they’ve held up very well but I was hoping to upgrade with the danners…just couldn’t justify the price at almost 4x more $ though. But hey if you have money to blow they seem like a nice boot and look sharp. As for fit… I wear a 7 in most sandals (36-37narrow in birks), a 7.5-8 in most shoes or boots. An 8-8.5 in some On Clouds. And I think an 8 in these danners would be best fit for me to allow for thicker socks in winter + swelling of feet after a longer hike. Another disappointment: they definitely seemed like they were a previous return and possibly even worn already…as they didn’t come in a danner box, they were very scuffed up on the leather and there were even some little pebbles stuck in the tread on the bottoms. I get that things are returned but I just think they should be sold at a reduced price and not marked as “new” if they are not actually in “new” condition. (IMO)

I had a pair of these for many years which I loved. So super comfortable that I literally hiked holes into the soles. So I bought a new pair. Same brand, same boot, same name ... yet, they are super hard, inflexible, narrow and not comfortable at all. I cannot 'break them in' - they are simply not the same. I do not know what happened.

Color: Brown/Red size 7. This color in size 7 was a better fit than Light brown with grey laces in size 7.5 (even though 7.5 was almost too small!). But it was still too small.

Awesome hiking shoes. Didn't have any issues. They have that perfect 'vintage hiking' look and great Danner quality. Didn't have to break them in at all. Wore them all hike long with no blisters or anything. LOVE them. If only I could wear them to work.

This hiking boot had everything I was looking for. Good ankle support and a moderately flexible sole. I have already worn them on a two mile walk with no issues. Can't wait to wear them on a longer hike.

Runs true to size. I usually buy 6.5 and per Danner recommendations I initially bought a 6 but had to return it because it was too tight even with dress socks. I then ordered a 7 and it fits much better. I have room for a medium or heavy sock although I probably won't need the latter because the shoe is already super warm. I live in Chicago where it drops below freezing and I have been hiking a lot more post pandemic so this shoe checks my list 1) keeps my feet warm 2) keep them dry 3) has grip 4) looks cute. It hasn't snowed yet so I will have to report back on waterproofing. I plan on using them on fairly basic hikes around the city, not planning on crossing rivers with them or anything. For years I've had those llbean shoes with rubber but my feet get so cold in there and the soles don't have any grip so I'm glad I have these. They're well made and I plan to keep them for a very long time.

The boot is actually a light cocoa brown, not “buff” as it appeared to me. Also ordered the same boot with the red highlights, keeping that one, sending this pair back.

Fantastic books! So comfy I was able to walk around England for an entire week and my feet felt amazing. They are super cute too and I received many compliments. Worth every penny! I normally wear 7 and I bought a 7 and wore them with thick socks without issue.

These are a nice boot. I just preferred how the leather not suede boot fit and felt better than this boot. The suede tended to bend more in a location I thought might become an issue with a long hike.

The most comfortable boot fit of all. Really luxurious feel inside. But, I did not choose them for my needs! They were just a bit heavy and over the top for what I wanted in a daily urban / sometime wilderness boot. If you just use them to hike then highly recommend!
