This is an extremely well-made shoe. You get what you pay for. But, it is made on a narrow last. I ordered EE width, and it was too narrow. I had to return it. For someone with a normal width foot, I am sure it would be great.

Boot was advertised as being EE wide and to order a half size smaller than your normal size. I wear an E width, 10 and ordered a 9-1/2 and it was perfect. With the laces running down the toe, it is easy to adjust the width.
These are as old school as it gets. The tongue unfolds and opens, this makes the boot very easy to get on and off. I had these boots many years ago. I am 63 years old and these babies will last me a good while.
I have worn them for three days straight. The leather needs a bit of breaking in. If a shoe does not feel good the moment I put it on, It will never feel good. These felt great from the start.

First set of Danner hiking boots and most expensive boots I’ve ever purchased, but I have not been let down. The boots look amazing and feel even better. I measure a true size 11.5 and ordered down to a size 10 and the fit is perfect with laces tight. Keep in mind I have a wide foot with a smaller volume so sizing down 1.5 sizes works great. Very similar to my Red Wing Iron Rangers. When laced up boots would move around a bit on my foot so tightly lacing would be necessary for hiking all day. The boots are very supportive and do not have much flex at all so if you need a supportive boot for all day on your feet these are them. They will need broken in as the sewn in instep is made to mold to your foot and most likely won’t support an orthodox. So far, I’m in love with these boots. I hope I still feel that way in a few weeks and once I’ve gotten on the trails with them.

I’m an 11 and went 1/2 size smaller per Danner recommendation, was good. Well, they felt fine off the bat but then the first few days of wear were tough, my feet hurt by the end of the day. It’s much better today, I’ve have had them on for 10 hours and they feel good. I haven’t taken them out on a hike yet but I feel the good ankle support that I was missing with the their shorter model shoe. The quality of the shoe is exceptional and they’re really beautiful. People have commented how great they look. I really like the fact that they will rework the shoe when it gets beat up, other shoes cost 100-200 but I use them up in a year, so we’ll see what happens here.

I bought mine in 1990 and they’re still going strong, and look great. Replaced the orthotics and laces and that’s it.

The ultimate hipster boot. Great to wear with Pendleton clothing. You have to break them in, so invest in some blister bandaids the first few times you wear them. Also, they run very big! I am an 11 but in Danner boots I am a 9.5. I went to the Danner store to try them on before I ordered them from zappos.

Expensive boot so it needs to be great. It's well made, crafted with a high standards.
Howevver it has uncomfortable pressure points. The tongue on this boot is digs into the top of the foot. Can't imagine that wouldn't cause a lot of damage to the foot after an hour of steep hiking

There's no better boots than Danner; that's why they have some of the military contracts to support our brothers and sisters at arms with boots. Don't be alarmed at the EE - their EE is a normal width (maybe a tad wider for socks/room). A word about breaking them in - these are BOOTS. That means it takes a good deal of dedication to break them in, but once broken in, they're like gloves. Watch lacing the upper laces too tight, as it will rub the back of the ankle. You'll see folks online that have had these boots for 10+ years. Buy some mink oil and leather cleaner and you will forever have a pair of trusted boots.

ok so I love these boots they look amazing the one draw back is the size. I wear mostly 10.5 and 11s I had to size all the way down to a 9 and could still probably go 8.5. buy 2 pairs at least to compare sizes other than that I love them.

Fantastic looking boot! Very comfortable and made extremely well!
No complaints and I love the overlapping tongue design. (These boots were a bit pricey, but I think it’s still cheaper than buying a cheap boot in the long run!?)

This review is for the "non-waterproof" version of this boot. I hope they keep making these! Danner and Limmer seem to be about the only ones making heavy leather resolable hiking boots these days that don't have useless gore-tex in them.
These boots are actually very waterproof - IF you simply rub some kind of goop on them like Sno-seal. And they stay waterproof, as long as you re-apply the stuff once in awhile. I've had several pairs of "waterproof breathable" hiking boots and sneaks, and they're a joke - no "breathable" membrane is going to last long with you stomping on it before it tears and you've got a leaky boot that takes forever to dry out. I've waded through countless streams and puddles in these "non-waterproof" leather boots, and hiked in heavy downpours, and they've always kept my feet dry.
I've had these boots for a year and a half now and done lots of hiking in New England and New York, mostly day hikes but a few 2-day hikes. They are far better than synthetic hikers, in my opinion. Obviously they're heavier, but I don't think that matters unless you are doing a thru-hike. Thru-hikers seem to be where most people get their footwear advice from - makes sense since someone who did the AT ought to be a real expert on hiking boots. But I think what works best for someone who does 20 miles/day for months is not what's best for day hikers. Leather boots give you a lot of ankle support, which is important if you don't have ankles of steel from hiking 100miles/week. And they can keep your feet dry for as long as you own them. And you might own them for 20 years since they're re-soleable. My synthetic hiking footwear has been gathering dust since I got the Danners.
They take a long time to break in. I read all the reviews and lots of folks said "easy break-in." Uh, not for me. I did a lot of ~5 mile hikes and had sore feet and ankles in the first few months. I don't think there's any way to break them in quickly or before you hike in them. You've just got to do a bunch of shorter hikes and suffer. Only after you think they'll never be comfortable do they become comfortable. I experimented with different socks and insoles and settled on medium weight hiking socks with the Danner foam heel thingy that you have to buy separately (for like 18 bucks!). The heel thing looks stupid but somehow it worked better for me than full insoles or no insoles.
The sizing is weird. I measure precisely 8.5D on the brannock device, but the 8EE in this boot is what fits me. I called Danner and they recommended that size and they were right. So why don't they just label their 8EE as an 8.5D, since that's who it really fits? Oh well. As I said above, I wear medium weight hiking socks and the foam heel thing, but there's enough adjustability in the lacing and room in the boot that I can wear thinner socks or thicker socks and they still fit fine, which is nice.
I gave them 2 stars for "style". Sorry but to me, they are kind of ugly. But they're hiking boots. And there are few options out there if you want leather and want to avoid the silly "breathable" plastic membrane. Fortunately these are excellent boots, and it will be a bummer if they stop making them because everyone thinks that disposable sneakers are the best thing for hiking.

I have wide feet, so this was a bit narrower than i had hoped. Unfortunately 2E is the max that this boot will go. That having been said, the quality of this boot is undisputed. if it could fit my feet, I would defiantly keep them.

This shoes look great right out of the box. Classic look that is handcrafted with Gore Tex inside. Felt really comfortable right away. I ordered half size smaller size then regular but could go with full size down because I like the shoe to fit really really tight, so I guess right recommendation should be "go with the half size down". Great shoe, hope it will last.
