I walked more than 60 miles around the very, very cold and rainy city of Berlin, Germany, in December in these boots. I have wide feet. The Salomon Chalten's were fantastically comfortable and warm. Highly recommend them.

I was looking for a spare pair of boots with excellent support and tread. These boots are also very warm and comfortable. I have the Quest 4D 3 gtx for more serious hiking and will use these for winter walking on back roads in snow, ice and gravel.

The style and color of these shoes are great. They seem sturdy with nice traction on the sole. The major issue I had with these shoes -- and the reason i returned them: stiffness. My leg felt like it was in a cast when I put these shoes on. The ankle and leg are of this shoe are so extremely stiff I felt I had no mobility. I appreciate a solid, sturdy shoe, but there needs to be some flexibility. I noticed other reviewers felt the same way. Bummer. If it weren't for this I would have kept the shoes.

I had high hopes for these shoes as they are supposed to work like snow boots but have the softer look of hiking boots. However, ordered a lot of winter boots and these were probably the stiffest ones. They were actually OK on the foot part (the the most comfortable, not the worse) but they were really tight and not flexible at all on the top. Maybe I have thick legs, but it hurt the lower part of my shin even with the laces undone. The Merrell's Aurora Ice were somewhat bulkier around the foot, but overall more comfortable. The Columbia Omni Heat (and all other similar models) were much more comfortable, but probably not as sturdy. The Oboz (both Bridger and Juniper) were the best of them all when I considered comfort and function, with the Keens Hoodoo coming in a close second place (just too tall on the legs for what I need).

These were very stiff and not wearable out of the box. Usually Solomon are wearable right away. Also these were just too ugly to run around town in, no matter how bad the weather. Looked shapeless and felt stiff like wearing ski boots.
