I have had this jacket 2 years now and still love it. It is the only jacket I wear (unless it is raining). I am always amazed how warm I get (quickly) without getting sweaty. I love the fit and high neck. I have a love/hate relationship with the hood. Love it when it is tightened up with the pull cord - so snug and no drafts get in. Hate that it is too big. I can't be the only person that will never wear a helmet with their jackets!
Why only 4*
- After 18 months the logo has pealed off - not surprising as parts of it are so thin. Shame it isn't embroidered like on the Atom.

Have had this hoody for two years. Here's a quick review.
Pros:
* great warm mid/outer layer when active in cool or cold (skiing, hiking, climbing, etc.)
* must have if you run hot or just need warmth + breathability
* versatile combo adding a hardshell for extra wind resistance during static periods
* can be used as a daily jacket, but not in very cold or windy conditions
* face fabric is moderately tough for it's weight (more than the Atom)
Cons:
* The only reason it's not the perfect active synthetic jacket is the fit. It's too tight in the chest and shoulders, which restricts layering beneath (could not comfortably fit a mid weight fleece underneath). I had to size up (M to L), which results in a baggy fit in the body. If they updated to the 2020+ Atom LT fit block it would be perfect.

I purchased the Proton LT Hoody in black (large). This is a fairly slim fitting jacket, which is what I wanted and expected. For reference, I am 6'1", 175lbs and a 32" waist, with a 41.5" chest. The size large fits well on me. It is a very light weight jacket. I purchased this jacket to go for early morning walks / hikes when the temperature gets a bit cooler. I would say that I am a bit disappointed as it doesn't keep me quite warm enough when the temperature reaches near freezing (0degC / 32degF). I wear it with a base layer, and it's just not warm enough.
There is an elastic cuff, and it's not adjustable. So if you're thinking of wearing gloves underneath the sleeves, I'm not sure you will be able to comfortably. I wear my gloves over top instead.
The length of the jacket is great! It almost covers my back side. The front pocket is useful to store small items and your smartphone, no problem.
The zippers seem to be a little "cheap" in that the pull is made of a plastic. I'm not certain how long this will last.
I do like this jacket, but I think I will look for something a bit warmer (Atom AR?) in the future. Thanks!

So I made the jump from my well-served Atom to the Proton based on some reviews.
Basically, it is a thicker/denser jacket, but still on the light side. With this though, you lose some of that lightness and freedom you feel with an Atom, but maybe it'll wear in over time and lighten up.
I use to love the inside breast pocket of the Atom for my wallet, so I'm learning to use the outside breast pocket, but I think I prefer the inside version of the Atom.
Otherwise, the jacket is a quality piece and keep my compfortable for everyday wear in mild climate, so no complaints. If you are a really active person, I would proably lean towards the Atom because it feels like you aren't even wearing a jacket half the time.
If you want something that feels more protective and sturdier, the Proton is the way to go.

I have just bought this jacket and after 3 hikes in France I am very satisfied, but take care, the '' crux '' color is not a grey, it is a light blue, exactly a light blue-grey

Man I really want to love this and it's almost there for me. Only things are the armpits are a tad small. Anything more than a baselayer underneath and I'm "aware" of them, which is not good since I wanted to use it as a city walking jacket with at least a baselayer AND wool sweater underneath. Another con is, although there is a draw cord, it's pretty useless as I can only just about close the front zipper as is. Tried a size up in the store and that was too large. Tried the atom lt and ar and they were a bit better fitting regarding waist/draw cord and pits. The proton truly is a slim fit.
I think I'm just dreaming about that not so technical slightly longer atom/proton jacket for the city walk around town dwellers amongst us.
Sadly I will send it back hoping for a slightly revised version next year including fleece pockets and slightly roomier pits and waist!

Overall this is one of the best jackets I have ever owned, however it has one small flaw that I will get to later. First off it is true to its description, it is a great jacket for high output activities. Its warmer, more wind resistant, better fitting, and more durable than my Patagonia Nano Air; however it is nowhere near warm enough to wear as a standalone piece in cold weather with minimum activity. However I can't fault it for this because it was not designed for that. The only flaw I have found, and why I can't rate it 5 stars, is that it has the WORST zipper I have ever seen. Unless it is zipped all the way up, the zipper will continuously fall down and will have to be zipped back up. Other than that it is a fantastic jacket that has seen 2 years of good use throughout Utah, Arizona, Washington, Colorado, and North Carolina and held up nicely. For sizing I am 5'10', and a muscular/athletic 200lbs and size L fits perfect. Please fix the zipper Arcteryx!!!

Love this piece. Warm for its size and moves really well. Even with it fitting slightly tighter in the chest when I'm standing around I don't notice any restrictions when climbing in it.

Excellant produit!

Best mid layer with beautiful looks. It is a great compagnon with my Arc'teryx Keppel Trench Coat, a water proof and warm combination. As a stand alone you don't have to worry for a little bit of rain because of its water repellent aspects.
Sizing is a little bit off because I had to order a size M while wearing the Keppel Trench Coat in a size S.

This is a great layer to use in essentially any climate, sans Summer in the South. I've brought this during Spring and Fall hikes and thrown over when the weather changes or the sun goes down. I've worn this in in the middle of winter with a base layer below. It blocks wind and is fairly rain resistant to a certain point. It fits well so that when the weather gets super wet, a shell will fit over it perfectly. At first glance, this piece really reminded me of the LEAF Atom LT Hoody except, one major bonus...pockets on the sides. I do have a couple questions for the Arcteryx team though. What's the major difference between this and the Atom line? Is there a need for an Atom and a Proton? In which scenarios is one over the other recommended?

This hoody is great for sports because it lets the wind go through. But the fit and the cut is weird. It is revised, but I think there's more improvements to be done to this hoody. With Arc'teryx jackets and t-shirts, Medium fits me great. But for this hoody, the Medium is a little too tight and restrictive. I tried a friend's Large and the Large is way too large.

This is a great coat for cold weather activity and I rarely find myself needing to add a shell to increase warmth. Actually, unless the temperature really drops (relative), I sometimes find this jacket too warm but this is a good thing because I can easily vent; and, if I wanted less insulation I would have bought a lighter jacket. With all the great fit and features, this jacket is almost perfect, except that the armpits are too small. That armpits continually annoy me because I often notice material right up against my skin and would very much rather a slightly looser fit here so that I don't feel like I'm getting chafed. I'm a pretty normal athletic build, so the fit of this jacket might not irritate a person with a smaller chest; however, I feel like, compared to other brands, this jacket is abnormally tight in the armpits (I have never had this issue with any other coat). Although I really love everything else about this garment, the armpits are such an annoyance that, knowing how I fit this jacket, I would have purchased a different style had I the the chance to do it again.

I'm not a climber but wanted a jacket for hiking and general use. I'm 6'4" and 187 lbs, and Arc'teryx products in Large generally fit my tall, thin frame well. This jacket was no exception. The sleeves fit nicely and have a great small stretchy band at the wrist. The colors are nice, especially the Pilot gray. The one drawback is the high waistline in front. It's five inches higher than the back. I found out it's designed to accommodate a climber's harness, but for my use it just looked weird. I ended up returning it even though it was nearly perfect otherwise. The only other complaint is the lack of an interior pocket.

In comparison to an Atom LT, the Proton LT does a much better job of dumping excess heat. The DWR finish has proven more than capable of beading up mist/light rain and easily shedding snow. Gusting winds will require a shell, but that's the trade off for the excellent heat management. The face fabric is not a pleasant as the Atom, but is in no way off-putting.
I cannot, under any circumstances, get the zipper to remain in place on this jacket. No matter where you stop the pull, whether it is under a shell, or zipped all the way to the top, it will gradually creep toward my belly button. This results in much swearing.

I bought this after watching some reviews and research. I really wanted to keep it but for the price it needed to be closer to perfect. The medium fit me well, but the front length is way too short, my whole crotch area is exposed to water, this would also look much better with the engraved logo Arc'teryx on the front, I tried to go to a large size which was a slightly better fit due to the length of the front being longer but the downside to that was the sleeves were too long in the large for me, in medium the sleeves were better length for me. For the price of the proton I could not keep it without these adjustments
