Really like these shoes and have bought multiple pairs but the glue holding the sole has not held on my last 2 pairs. This isn't like a month of use issue, fresh from the box after a bit of walking.

Lots of ankle pain wearing this pair of shoes. Bought three different types of New Balance within a week and narrowed down this pair as the problem. Sorry.

Shoe Lining started to come apart. Also the midsole had an excessive amount of glue on it.

I've worn v3 and v4 for years, so last Nov (2018) when I replaced my v4's, I was expecting the same quality shoe. I was not ready for the deep drop in the quality these v4's! I walk half an hour daily (about 1.6 miles) on pavement, and after only one month the outer backs of the soles were completely worn off! All the black was gone and the under layer started to wear down also. I have v3's that I wore for over a year that are not as worn as these new shoes were. You've lost a long time customer due to the drop in overall quality in your supposedly quality shoe. I've been gluing a pair of Guardian rubber taps on once a month just to be able to use the shoes. Shame on you.

The 990v4 Made in USA ran narrow, and didn't have enough room once Plush Foam 1205 Met Pad Orthotics were added. New Balance's certified orthotic shoes felt much better than their premium runners.

Maybe I'm just not very smart, but I could not find my promo code for first time buyer discount on my $200.00 shoes. Finally just gave up and ordered shoes. Not happy

I've been running in New Balance shoes for the last 15 years and have always loved them. I tried out my new 990v4's and developed Planter Fasciitis and shin splints. Had to switch back to my old VaZee's. I Supinate so I figured the cushion profile of this shoe would be perfect. I was wrong!

In the looks department 990v4 in black cannot be beaten. It is however an extremely heavy shoe. NB doesnt make a wide insert w/o metatarsal support.

I've been a 15-year loyal customer. I bought the top of the line 990v4. Used them for the first time today. What an unbelievably bad running shoe. Some wiz kid engineer at New Balance or margin pressure produced a shoe that reminds me of standard issue army running shoes. My feet were on fire 12 minutes into the run. The balls of my feet started to hurt. Felt like I had a bunched up sock. The laces cut into my foot. My knees and ankles started to hurt. By 18 minutes into my run I literally stopped because I thought I would sustain some sort of injury. I would say ship the entire inventory to some 3rd world country, but if they wore these shoes they wouldn't make it to the food trucks. Only other suggestion is send them to some detention camp because I assure you, one day in these shoes and they will confessing to stuff they didn't even do. Seriously when your 2018 top of the line is this bad then it is time for me to look at other brands because wow!

NB, part of the reason that you have a good reputation is that you sell shoes in varying widths, which creates wonderful fits. HOWEVER, I find myself wanting a few of your more awesome color schemes on the 990v4, only to find them available in D width. Others are only available in D or 4E. This is very disappointing. I look forward to the day when the v4 is customizable like the v3 is today. Alternately, you could make ALL your colors available in ALL widths, even on a limited production run. If you get that going, let me know.

I'm not a runner, but I have extra-wide feet, and I wear sneakers most of the time because they're light and flexible. Brooks Adrenaline used to work, but overlays the last few years made them uncomfortable. What most companies sell as 4E really isn't. I tried other, less expensive New Balance shoes, but they didn't fit well, so I finally shelled out the extra money for a pair. Unfortunately, they didn't work, either. My foot size is 11 4E, and since the 990 runs true to size, that's what I started with. It was long enough, and it fit at the midsole, but the toe box was either too narrow or not shaped properly for my 5th toes, and they felt cramped in less than an hour. I turned them in for 11 6E, but it turns out the 6E has the exact same sole as the 4E; really, it's the exact same shape and width. It just has a little more volume, and it didn't solve my problem. It was suggested I try 11.5 4E instead, since the larger shoe is supposed to be a little wider. It seemed better at the start despite feeling too long, so I took off the tag and put them to use. But after a couple of days my 5th toes were feeling cramped again, and a week later the right shoe started squeaking. This is all less than I expected from these shoes. It's too late to return the 990s, so I'll have to see if someone else can use them. (Brooks just updated the Adrenaline in November 2017 with engineered mesh and no forefoot overlays, so that's what I'm wearing now.)

Such a iconic shoe. Doesn't have the most up to date looks, but they are the best shoes out there hands down. I have had over 10 pairs of 990 version shoes over the years. If you have foot ailments or stand all day do yourself a favor and give these a try. Rock solid and super durable.

Over the past 10 years I have bought the older model of this shoe. It is sad to see that it has changed to something so terrible and have the quality of the shoe go with it. I still have the same pair that i purchased about 2 years ago and I will say that I will never buy a new pair of these.

I bought these shoes because running makes me feel good. Now whenever I put them on I only feel deep and overwhelming shame. How do I come home and explain to my 8 year old daughter why I bought shoes that go to support white nationalism, xenophobia, and sexual assault on women. How do I enjoy my runs knowing that the people who I paid for my shoes want to create a religious test for entry to the USA? I will run in something else.

I might submit a real review - if the hoe ever arrives. Parcelpool sucks - I don't think I'll be ordering from Zappos in the future.
