Had these boots worked out they would have been my third pair of Ecco hiking boots. But when I walked in these, the crease on the top (where the boot bends as you step forward) dug hard into the top of my foot. I tried everything, including re-lacing them, loosening the laces, etc., to no avail. They would have been painful to hike in. Ecco boots have a great sole that grips better than any boot I've ever owned. The fit well too, with a toe box that accommodates my slightly wide foot, protects my ankles well and stays dry in the rainy Pacific Northwest. I was super disappointed that this pair didn't work out. The problem seemed a design issue, so I had to send them back.

I have a very narrow foot and knee issues. For years, I've worn the Ecco hiking boot (with an orthotic) because it does run slightly narrow -- so it fits-- and it's very sturdy and somehow keeps my knees from hurting . Boots like this take awhile to break in. Not a problem for me.
I'd also recommend:
New Balance has a softer (narrow) boot.

This is the third pair of hiking boots I've purchased, looking for the perfect pair. As soon as I put these on, they felt right. I haven't worn them hiking too much yet, but my friend has them and raves about them. Definitely the most comfortable hiking boots I've tried this year!

I'm having the same trouble as a previous reviewer who noted that the placement of the laces causes them to dig into the foot. I've never had this problem and I can't find a way around it. The boots are otherwise quite comfortable and seemingly well designed.

So sorry to say, but these boots dug into the top of my foot just above the toes. I recall another reviewer saying something similar, but I thought it may have been exclusive to her. Sadly, I too found these to be very comfortable when just standing, but walking in them would become very uncomfortable as they would rub along my foot above the toes - just where the lowest lace holes are. Had to return them.
