I used the Farpoint on a 6 week trip to Europe. The main bag was checked luggage on all my flights and held up really well with all the airline abuse a bag normally receives. I do not believe this pack could fit in on any overhead locker given the height of the bag. The ability to zip up the straps behind a cover was excellent and really practical for international travel. This pack is best suited to using packing cubes as the internal space is significant. I took way too much stuff on my trip and it handled it well with the internal compression straps. The mesh on the main flap is large and can be used for a variety of things given its size. The day pack is really just that, a small bag that could carry your things for a days activities and not much more. putting clothing into it fills its smaller capacity quickly. The laptop sleeve and small zipped section attached to the laptop sleeve were great places to store travel documentation and valuables. The ability to also attach the small pack to the back of the main pack was excellent. You also have the ability to hang the small pack in front of you using the clips on the pack.

Two years, 30+ checked luggage flights, countless taxis, tuk-tuks, and trains, and one very happy customer. Large enough for four seasons of clothing and electronic gear. Not so large as to be unwieldy during cross-city jaunts. Pack design and materials are holding up 100%, no problems. Carries well, like a backpack. Changes? Downsizing to a 40 liter Osprey pack!

The two-bag model has given my wife and I so many options for traveling with all we need and want. We can take everything from board games to our favorite books, and we don't need to bring more than this one bag. So thankful Osprey made this great product in a large size that still has the detachable day pack!

I have used this pack for at least 6 years. I carry it on airplanes all of the time only once being denied use as a carry on. I've done 10 day trips through Thailand, the UK, and Egypt, and had room for enough (especially with one stop for laundry). I highly recommend this bag. Rolling luggage takes up a hand and just doesn't work in some parts of the world. This bag pays for itself in a handful of trips at $25 per checked bag. I let my wife carry it for a bit and she was surprised at how easy it was go ahead, break tradition, you won't regret it!

Not only is this by far the best back pack to use when travelling, the company stands by their fantastic warranty. The day pack zipper on my 70 L Farpoint pack was difficult to attach to the main pack and required replacing. After contacting Osprey warranty department and arranging to ship the pack for repairs I was so surprised and pleased that instead of repairing the zipper they shipped me a new bag. They stand by their product and have such an excellent warranty program. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase another product from this company. Thank you Osprey!!

I bought this pack in 2014 to help me on a multi city Euro trip by coach and staying in hostels. it performed flawlessly even though (as i nw realised) i really overpacked. its was heavy, but comfortable to walk around with, rushing from coach to coach, thru bus stations and on trains. the day pack is a great addition as you can lock and stow the main bag in underneath luggage holds and keep your essentials close to you including ample space for laptop/tablet. i did carelessly manage to snag it on a sharp locker door at one of my hostels and got a 1/2 inch tear in the side, but the tear hasnt gotten any bigger and ive been using it heavily to this day.

I have owned this pack since 2015 (size small), have taken this on many trips including a year-long adventure from New Zealand to South America to USA to Sri Lanka and back to NZ. It has been on many buses, trains, ferries, airlines and still came unscathed. Very sturdy, easy to pack (with packing cells - I use 3 large Kathmandu ones) and comfy to carry. Surprisingly enough I hiked the W trail (4 day hike) in Torres Del Paine NP with this pack and it was very comfortable. Only complaint I have is that the small pack is too small to carry a small laptop and a DSLR and other bits and pieces you need to carry in your carry-on or as an overnight pack. I love it nevertheless !!!

I bought this bag for my college son who is doing a semester in Italy. It was in every way perfect, but unfortunately, it ended up not having enough space for his needs (2 months trip in multiple climates), so we are returning it. I wanted to keep it for myself just because it is such a clever and well-made bag.

I went to Italy last August 2017 and this was by far the best thing I brought with me! I took it hiking in the alps Through the crowd streets of Florence On the trains and airports Through the 5 towns of Cinque Terrre Most important! Pisa was so crowded I couldn't find a cab to the train and ended up running/walking about a 3 miles to the train n I didn't miss my time Wooooohoooo! So comfortable to wear n carry very easy to get into as well Thank you THANK YOU for designing such an incredible bag!

I was just visiting this website recommending this to a friend, and I decided to leave a comment after reading that one bad review. I could not disagree more with the one star review. I bought this pack 4 years ago for a week long trip to Scotland. It's a fantastic pack for travel. It fits a lot of stuff, and I can wear it so my hands are free to help with the kids stuff when we travel as a family. I use this pack exclusively as my suitcase. It's holding up perfectly. On planes I remove the small day pack (where I put my book, ipad, jacket, phone, etc..) and the main pack fits in the overhead bin nicely. It's great not checking a bag. We're going to Paris and Amsterdam for a week, and I just packed it up last night. Great bag.

Used this pack for a 2-week trip to Croatia. I was able to pack all of my stuff and use this as a carry-on once I disconnected the backpack, it wasn't as bulky. I checked the bag one time to maximize space and it was useful to have a quick disconnect with the included backpack. Highly recommend this pack since the straps store to make it easier for travel.

I love this pack. I've owned it for 6 years and in that time have taken it on extended abroad travels to Europe, Asia, and South America. It is excellent for plane and train travel given its strap stowage, and removable day pack. You can easily fit several weeks worth of clothing, etc. in its main pocket. It's much more user-friendly than a top-loader for international travel. I check the main pack and take the daypack as hand luggage. In a pinch I've checked both pieces together to accommodate an extra carry-on. Also it's one of the most durable packs I've ever owned. After most trips I run it through a 2 hour high heat dryer cycle at the laundromat to kill any bed bugs, and have also subjected it to two weeks in a -80C deep freezer. It's still going strong! With only one small hole (that I blame on the baggage handlers). The college where I teach does a lot of study abroad travel with students around the globe. The Farpoint series is always my recommendation for students looking for a travel friendly way to go from train-to-trail. Great design and great construction!

My wife and I both got these for our honeymoon through Greece & Turkey. Having a backpack/travel bag/ and zip off day pack is and was perfect for the occasion. The pockets are well through through for the main bag as well as the zip-off pack. Both packs are comfortable and from a strap perspective. The main bag is very easy to load up and perfect zipper construction so you can grab something from the bottom of the pack without disrupting everything to get to it. Nice job Osprey, I continue to be a fan!

I recently travelled to Europe for 2 weeks and stayed in hostels, hotels, AirBnb etc. I thought this pack was great! The pack seemed sturdy and I had no issues with zippers. It was very easy to pack compared to the top loading packs. The straps were fine but perhaps less comfortable compared to a traditional pack if you are doing long hikes. I liked that the straps were concealable & protectable for flights. I used the day pack for our day adventures and it was a perfect size for me. The day pack has 2 inside slots for valuables/tablet etc. The day pack attaches to the travel pack by zipper on the back of the bag which was useful. The day pack can also attach via clips to wear hands free on your front. This was particularly helpful at airports and train stations when I had both bags but didn't want to attach the day pack to the back of the travel pack as I needed easy access to the day pack. Overall, I thought this pack was easy to use and I am happy with my choice of pack.

I really like the backpack itself, although, I bought it for traveling. My first travel with it the airline company let me get on the plane with it. I was glad to know that even if it's exceed the carry on limit size a little bit, airline companies will let me bring it in the cabin until I went for another trip and they refused it. I had to check it as a luggage... If I'd knew it in advanced I would have used a real big luggage case and I would have brought more things to make my trip more comfortable. It's also great to have your things with you so you don't stress if they're going to lose your luggage. So I'm a bit disappointed and it's a roll of dice every time. If you want to be sure, go with the Far point 40 this one meet the size limits. I'm planning my next trip in two weeks and I'm unsure if I take the risk or go with a real luggage bag... I'd like to swap it for the 40 if I could.

I love this travel pack! Easy to load, and using compression cubes can fit a TON of gear inside. The 20L detachable day pack is fantastic as well - laptop and everything I need access to to is at my fingertips. I have NOT had to check this bag on any of my trips...yet. By stowing the shoulder straps to make it look like a small duffel bag I have not had anyone ever question it going on board. Having said that, with small regional jets it would have to go as checked but any "normal" domestic flight and international flight has aways been easy to bring on board. Th only thing I would say is lacking is an easier way to carry the bag with the shoulder straps stowed away. Only option at that point is holding the handles - I have a Osprey 46L and it has the ability to use a single shoulder strap with a plastic loop at the top and bottom of the bag. Perhaps a minor complaint as I still love the bag and think it is perfect. I use the Farpoint 70L for trips 5-6+ weeks and the Osprey Porter 46L for anything less...

Bought two of these a couple years ago to backpack around Australia for a month with 2 kids. We now use them for everything. For just us we probably would have gone with the smaller 55 but the bigger size allowed us to cram their stuff in as well and it comes in handy when we're packing bulkier winter stuff. Each person has their own color of packing cubes so it was easy to have 2 people's worth of stuff in one bag. We've done at least 15 flights with them so far and they still look like new. My only complaint is the so-called water bottle mesh pockets on the day pack (although I notice that the new write-up doesn't mention them as such) . We've tried a few different bottles and none of them ever stay put so the bottles go inside. We also ended up buying rain covers.

Ordered the product based on the online description and style shown. The product that I received looked nothing like the product online. The customer service representative told me that Osprey could not guarantee a product to be the same as which is described on the website.

I own an Osprey pack and an Osprey rolling bag. This "pack" does not fit my 6"-4" 240lb frame. (no, I am not anywhere close to the presidential windbag "Flabby McGolftits"). It is very tight in a shirt, impossible without pain once I added a heavy shirt and a jacket. The daypack is tiny, the "key" pocket is on the outside and cannot be secured, sponsored no doubt by pickpockets, and it is too small to carry a jacket and a sandwich.....just what a day pack is for. It could use substantial improvements and would help if the design team had ever traveled internationally for longer than 14 days.
