I fell in love with the shoes when I first received them. They're super versatile with different clothing and accessories. However, after having the shoes for 6 months and wearing them less than probably 30 times, they're starting to fall apart. The leather upper is separating from the sides near the area of the shoe where it bends via the fit. Definitely not worth the the price for the wear I've gotten out of them.

Don't buy if you use custom orthotics -- the insole that comes with the shoe is sewn in and cannot be removed.

I purchased the Gray Nubuck color. very versatile color! love the look of the shoe, however, the arch support is not in the correct spot for my feet. I wear size 10. the burnish on the tip is not even on both shoes and that just bugs me to look at it.. (just not necessary)... hopefully it will fade in time... the disappointing factor is that the padding on the inside is not easily removable. I wanted to just take it out and put in a support that I know works well.
I'll have to wait to try this since it is a Christmas present to myself and I can go destroying it yet...lol . if anyone has any suggestions before then please let me know.

I love the McGuffey plain toe. This is my 4th pair, I have them in several colors. They wear well, look great, and are comfortable.

These are some of the most (if not the most) comfortable casual shoes that I own. I purchased them because of the style and look but after I put them on for the first time I was blown away by how comfortable they are. I have worn them about a dozen different times now and they still are as comfortable as the first and are not showing any signs of unexpected wear. I have not worn any other models of Johnston & Murphy shoes but after the experience I have had with these, I will be giving their other models a shot too.

This shoe was great! I got them as a gift for my boyfriend who has wide feet. He loved them but they were a bit big so I plan to repurchase them in another size. I also got them as a gift for my dad last year and he is obsessed with them. If you have wide feet, these shoes are perfect!

These shoes have a break-in period of about 1-2 days, so don't worry if they feel slightly snug on the first fit. There is a small arch support in the shoe and the overall comfort is fantastic. The clean and casual design makes these shoes go with just about anything. These are my daily office shoes.

Updated review: My husband loved them. Past tense. He said they were very comfortable but stylish and semi professional looking so he was wearing them to work all the time. But then he stopped wearing them so I asked why. He said it squeaks! Any kind of hard sleek surface, the shoes will squeak so loud he's embarrassed to wear them. So I guess they are great if you're mostly on the asphalt or carpet?

They looked really nice and they are comfortable but not good for longer walks. They do not hold up very well, had them about 5 months and the the soles are about worn through on the back heel. The laces are terrible as well I had to replace those after 3 months. I work in an office so its not like I am out landscaping in them. For the $130 price tag I expected them to hold up much better than this. I have other JM shoes that I loved so I though this was a brand I could trust. I would not buy these again even if they were half the price.

Didn’t fit at all!
I’ve owned this
shoe in a 9 1/2 purchased the same size online. It doesn’t even come close to fitting. See pictures attached.
Old shoe versus new shoe.
Would like to return if possible. Thank you!

So today I just ordered what I believe to be my 8th or 9th pair of the McGuffey Plain Toe, so I feel immensely qualified to comment. First the negative. . . Clearly I like them a lot, aside from 3 issues in the past. 1) One pair was inexplicably cut tight in the outside toe area and my pinky toes suffered through a lengthy break-in period (I've always ordered 9. 5 M). I managed to survive. 2) On two occasions, the laces were so short that tying them securely was nearly impossible. This is exacerbated by the fact that the style of lace on this shoe seems to find its way loose too easily. The positive. . . It is a super attractive and comfortable shoe that I consider reasonably durable (and I'm pretty tough on shoes). Lastly, the look has a good range, in that it can handle both casual and more formal wear very well. Versatile is perhaps a good descriptor for the McGuffey. Strongly recommend. Good value.

This was a 2nd pair of m&j shoes. These are the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn. They are durable and worth every penny.

I got the shoes for my husband as one of his Christmas gift. I love the blue color with some brown accent, will look great with casual or dress pants, blue, brown, beige & white colors. So far my husband wore the shoes once and approved it is comfortable!

I ordered these shoes pretty last minute for a Christmas present and I was worried they wouldn't get here in time. They shipped SO FAST. I got them the weekend before Christmas and they are just perfect! My husband loves them!

I started with J&M over 2 years ago. I don't even look at any other brands anymore. From athletic shoe to casual and boots . . never had a bad pair! I think I'm up to 11-12 pairs:smile:

My second pair after several years in the first. These are the most comfortable sneakers/shoes I've worn. The only reason for the new pair is that the rubber soles of the first became discolored. Love the blue. I'm glad J&M continues to make this shoe!

Very nice and comfortable shoe. The Blue Leather is very expensive looking. Would like other colors like "cognac"" or maybe a rich dark brown leather. Love the rubber soles.

wore J & M shoes for may years in the 60's and early 70's and always highly satisfied with the entire process. Got away from them in mid 80's as the soft sneaker type shoe became more accepted and also more comfortable. Recently I wanted to go back to a more conventional and dressier shoe. I ordered a pair from J & M only to find total satisfaction and the same high quality as I remember meaning to me that over the years the business model has remained the same and not deteriorated as so many have with outsourcing the product

I simply love the shoe's comfort. I work in a hospital, walking miles a day. I have struggled to find a shoe that combines comfort, support and style. This shoe does it all. I've been slowly replacing all of my shoes with those from J&M. They are worth the cost.
