These approach shoes have a lacing system that is comfortable even when laced tight. Since approach shoes need to fit snug, that is important. However, the shoe is built pretty wide, so even wearing the thickest pair of socks I own, I could still move side to side in them. That will cause issues on the trail, so I am sending them back. If you have a wide or high volume foot, I suggest you try the medium width first.
Note, these can accommodate your orthotics and the rubber is super sticky. They even look good!

I normally wear a size 9, occasionally an 8.5; the 40.5 fit me just right. The toe box leaves wiggle room but is not sloppy, and the sole is firm with plenty of grip. The light weight adds to the overall comfort. I wore them at Yellowstone with light snow and temperatures in the 20's, and my feet were not cold or wet. As a hiking and approach shoe, these are perfect for my feet.

As a canyoneer, these shoes are pretty standard wear. They grip well, are quick to dry and generally stand up to the elements... except... the laces frayed away within two uses. Not even canyoneering, I used these just for two backpacking trips in the Grand Canyon, 3-4 days each trip, and by the end, the yellow outer weave had completely broken off in three places and the inner white core had started to fray away too. It was so bad, that I had to cut them out after the second trip and replace with a better quality lace. If you are going to buy these, make sure to bring an extra pair of laces so you don't run into problems in the wilderness!

I thought they were uncomfortable, bummer because I wore them for climbing above 10,000 feet for 3 days. No other shoes

I made it through one season of non stops hiking & scrambling at red rock canyon In Nevada. This shoe has took it well- I've changed the insoles only & they still have tread & have not torn. All other shoes I've had out here either get cut on the rock or tear from the cactus. Cool shoe -great approach shoe in hot weather.

I own these in two sizes -one for short day hikes and one size up for long hikes and thru hikes. They are light, super sticky, and fit my long narrow (but not n width) feet perfectly. My only complaint is that I need a US W11 for thru-hiking and they are rarely in stock. I don't mind that the sticky soles mean that I need to replace them quickly because they work so well for me -even when carrying a heavier pack on a hike like the JMT. I will be extremely sad if these are ever discontinued and my local gear shop knows to hold any size 11 shoes they get in for me because they are as rare as hens teeth it seems. I've been lucky to get my hands on three pairs so far and my fingers are crossed that they will be in stock again since my summer adventures on granite have really worn down the tread on my current pair. The only time I had any issues with their durability was with the laces getting damaged easily on some rocks once -and those have also been out of stock for years it seems.

I wore my old Expeditions to the bone and was excited to upgrade. LaSpo did not disappoint! The sticky dot rubber is incredible, even on polished slabs. They are light enough to carry on a harness and breathable so they dont get stinky. They have a stabilizing sole to prevent rolling (I'm accident prone!) and fly details that look like back to the future...

These are my go-to summer/warm weather approach shoes: they are light-weight and the synthetic upper is breathable and quick drying. The vibrant sole is stiff and great on trails and fourth class scrambles. The toe box is pretty square and roomy, so good for people with a wider forefoot. They are also durableI destroy shoes and have not broken these yet!
While these are great for long hikes and scrambling, I leave them at home if my approach involves more technical, 5th class climbing. The square shape and soft upper do not lend to edging or crack climbing. If you are looking for a more technical shoe would suggest the BoulderX.

This is my go to summer hiker, when i don't need the ankle support. The sticky rubber is excellent for slabby scrambles, but if you want to do more technical moves would recommend a tighter tx2 as the toe box is a little dense. It is reasonably waterproof, without the added heat of goretex and dries out quickly when wet.

Initially I couldn't decide between these and the TX2, but I went with these and am super glad I did! My feet tend to get sore pretty easily so I look for a slightly beefier shoe for comfort. These offer the perfect amount of support while still maintaining sensitivity as well. I feel super confident in any terrain with them on. They're perfect for longer approaches and they stick amazingly to everything! Love.

I wanted to love these so much but those of us with small feet (womens 6) struggle with the sidewalls of shoes being too high. The sidewalls hit my ankle bones on both sides of each foot and so I was forced to return them. I'm really sad about this. The shoe could use a bit more padding in the sole as well. I could feel the little round rubber dots under my feet and that doesn't feel very nice when you are hiking. The sticky rubber is great!

Absolutely beautiful shoe with good arch support! Removable insoles to accommodate custom orthotics. Unfortunately I have to return them. I’m getting a lot of movement around the ankle area, and as we all know that’s just a recipe for blisters. My foot is wide through the toes with a high instep and narrow heels. If your foot is built differently these might be the shoes for you.
