I use this pair of shoes in Hawaii where I hike in all kinds of terrains - climbing on rocky hills, lava fields, super muddy trails, dry loose rock trails, river crossing. This is the only pair of shoes that can handle them all, including my prescription orthotic inserts. I think it is because of the durable but flexible rubber sole. I can feel my feet when I climb and go over lava fields. They are grippy so do not slip. Easily washable and they dry very fast. I love them and I will not hesitate to purchase another pair when the current pair are worn out.

i love the style of these, especially the alternative lacing. am deeply disappointed that they are not wide enough for my slightly bunioned feet -- i don't always need a Wide width (not in Keen or Skechers), but i would have in these, and Arc'teryx doesn't make one. i'll have to send them back. my idea was to try these as a travel/hiking shoe, since they look rather less "i am a klunky hiking boot, but lower!" than most of the trail hikers. when i first put them on in my living room, i got the impression that their grippy tread would be too squeaky for indoor wear -- they've now calmed down a bit, but i might still say they're squeakier than i'd go for. another size note: my usual size is 7.5 US, which is usually a 38 -- but the box for these says they are a 7.5 / 39 1/3, and i'd say they fit more like a 39+ than like a 7.5. if they weren't already too narrow, i'd be ordering the next size down.

Had it for a couple years now. Wear it 10 months of the year. Still in a great shape after 20+ months of heavy use. Soles in great condition, only one blemish on the topside. Can use them for small hikes, can use them for city, and slip on/off for running out into the hallway or taking out trash. The best!

Overall great shoes! I coach climbing a lot and climb outside in the summer, so I use approach shoes as everyday street shoes to avoid the inconvenience of bringing approach shoes around with me. I have had 5.10 Approach Pros, SoIll The Approach, and Black Diamond Sessions. These have been my favourite so far. Overall, they have a narrow fit on the sides and top of the foot but a fairly large toe box, they stretch a fair bit, and the sizing runs big (Im usually 8.5-9, I bought size 8 and feel like i shouldve bought 7.5). I was also worried about the logo on the heel wearing off as its right on the fold libe when you colapse it, but ive been wearing them for over 2 months and it seems fine. Now, for pros and cons: Pros: They seem to be water resistant so puddles or snow/matters less, and if they do get wet, they dry relitivly quickly. They stay on your feet and are not actually that floppy with the heel collapsed. I can even run when I'm late for class with the heel folded and they dont fall off. I couldnt do that with my BD sessions. The anti-microbial sole or whatever does work to keep them less stinky after wearing them sockless between climbs (or when you dont have clean socks Lol) The new redesigned clasp is much better. As it is perminantly sewn on instead of the old hook design, it doesnt come undone when walking ever. It also comes with a rubber loop on the webbing to keep the end of the webbing down. This rubber loop is hard to tuck the webbing in, if you do tuck it in, it comes out, and its hard to move unless you take the shoe off and fully loosen the webbing. That being said, if you put the rubber loop inder the buckle, it jams on the webbing and acts as a set and forget allowing you to wear the shoes like slip-ons if desired. Cons: The end of the webbing is not well secured and ends up flopping around. The toe box fits large. Maybe its my climbing feet, but i dont feel much support for edging. The rubber is on the hard side for an approach shoe. This is good if you plan on walking around town a lot and want longevity, but it does mean it does not stick great when demonstrating techniques in the climbing gym. The tread pattern is nice as its aggressive on the heel for hiking and flat in the front for climbing which is expected. However, the middle is a weird mix between, this normally doesnt make a difference, but it does hold snow if walking in heavy snow. This causes a pressure point on the arch feeling awkward and also makes it slippery for the first few steps on concrete or wood. The pull tab on the heel is strong and big enough to use to pull on the shoe, which is expected. It does mean that you can feel it when you wear the shoes with the heel folded. You get used to it after a couple mins, but not ideal. I had the same issue with the BD sessions, but it felt about 30% better on the BDs. Only available in a few colours Overall, its a great shoe. Looks interesting, great quality, comfortable, relatively affordable, and definitely a shoe I would recommend. I think there are some changes that could be made to improve them, but they are my favourite approach shoe so far, and I will likely buy another pair when mine wear out.

The Approach shoes are great. I own multiple pairs and they're very comfortable around town. I especially like the "slipper" feature where you can just slide your feet into the shoe and flatten the rear. Hope they can bring some new colours or updates to this series.

Great shoe, very comfortable. More color options would be pretty neat. I will say that I had do downsize one half size to properly fit. I wear an 8 1/2 in every brand, but an 8 is what I wear for this.

I have been wearing the Arakys for I think 5 years? They are perfect for climbing. I have worn them on easier climbs, love that they easily slip on and off between climbs, and I find them perfectly comfortable for even longer approaches and they grip well. They aren't as supportive as others so they may not be suited for some who require most support. I find they run a little big. I typically wear an 8.5, 9 in running shoes, once in awhile I can fit into an 8. I wear a size 8 in these. I have recommended this shoe to friends and they have all loved them!

I love these approach shoes. They are quick to slip on, have grippy soles, and are light enough to easily stow in a pack for walk offs from multipitch climbs. The back folds down so you can easily slide them on without having to put socks back on when you are cragging. I love not having to take a pair of belay shoes up to the crag anymore! They also look nice enough that I can wear them around town! Really awesome purchase! I have only had them for a month so cannot comment on durability yet.

These fill in the gaps between my sandals, trail runners, and goretex boots. I wear them for literally everything. Smooth trails, walks around town, dinner out, etc. I have the black ones and they clean up super easily. Upper was very durable and outlasted the sole. Buying my second pair now (15 months for the first pair) and thought I would write just how happy I am with these.

Have several pairs of these in different colours, they are as good around town as on the walk to a climb, I think they are so good I wear mine with pride on a night out. Very comfy and smart looking.

So comfortable, you'll forget you're wearing shoes. I love the no no lace system. Incredibly lightweight, perfect snug, but not tight fit. Very comfortable with great cushioning. Soles grip well. Look great casual or slightly dressed up. Perfect proportions.

I just purchased my second pair of the Arakys Approach shoe and they're every bit as comfortable as my first pair, with no break in period! I bought my first pair about 4 years ago and they've been nothing short of amazing! I have foot issues due to overtraining so need to wear an orthotic insert and these are the ONLY shoes that give me the comfort and support I need! I usually wear a 5.5 but order a 6 to accommodate my orthotic. They're tough but light, supportive, comfortable, breathable and have a great aesthetic not a clunky hiker or a sporty runner! No laces to look messy or require constant tightening, just one strap - pure genius!!! They're even built to use as a slip on which I rarely do but can make for a quick, versatile getaway should you need to run for a train or airport connection! I love the fact that they are rugged enough to handle mountainous trails (love the Vibram sole) but have clean classic lines that look equally great navigating trails and towns in Cinqueterre, wandering Roman ruins, cycling in the Okanagan, touring the Vatican, sightseeing in Mexico, exploring the Maritimes, or pausing to people watch at a Parisian cafe! There's no end to where these shoes have taken me or what these shoes have endured! I would have bought another pair before this but unfortunately in our area of the country could never find my size (even online) until a few months ago! This was perfect timing as my other pair have finally had to be retired (I've never worn down a Vibram sole before!). Bottom lineyou CAN'T go wrong purchasing this shoe! I raved about this shoe so much my husband finally relented and had me order him a pair too! He was definitely a hard sell, but saw first hand just how amazing and versatile these shoes are, what they've endured, and how much I love them! Please continue this style and perhaps increase your order of smaller sizes? (6) as we small footed folk need great footwear too! Thank you Arc'teryx for this awesome design!!!

I was looking for a shoe for when a travelled in my camper van. The requirement was the ability to use them for walks, easier hikes, great support, big toe box, comfortable, and easy on an off. I've been using these for everything from slippers to hiking shoes, although I use some Arc'teryx hiking boots for longer hikes. What really amazes me is how well they grip even when I have just walked through a sandy or muddy section of trail and then step onto a rocky slope. This is the third pair of Arc'teryx footwear I've purchased. I normally size at least 1/2 size up for hiking boots, but I find Arc'teryx footwear matches my street shoe sizing.

Bought these for my climbing/cragging days. Definitely was not disappointed. Sticky rubber is good enough for scrambling and moderate climbing. Comfortable enough to wear all day at the crag. Best part, no more laces or heavy shoes!! Nothing is worse than getting off your project pumped with no skin and trying to put your approach shoes back on with laces and heavy soles. These bad boys slip on with or without the back down, and I love the new design of the buckle. Works exactly like my harness. I originally thought the toe box was a bit wide, but after climbing and hiking, they fit nice when my feet swell a bit. The support was much better than I anticipated too! These are definitely going in my by climbing bag full time. Excited to use them on my next big multi-pitch adventure.

I replaced my heavier hiking shoes with this. Lighter weight, nicer look and better grip on wet surfaces and rough terrain like cobblestones and rocky paths. I wear these to prevent falls, rather than hiking mountains. I replace my shoes each year and this will definitely be in my rotation from now on.

I've gone thru 2 pair and want more but am disappointed with the color selection. I still have my bright lime green pair and I continue to get great comments. I wear them for biking, gym workouts, light hiking and grocery shopping! Arc'teryx, please bring back fresh colors!

Bring back the shark/bora bora Arc'Teryx! From working on installation sites and as hiker, I wear these most of the time. After 3 years, I wore straight through the first pair (holes in fabric, worn out sole). While disappointed by the new colors - alas, Arc'teryx at least still makes these - so I bought another pair. I still go back to the old worn out pair as well. I have owned the releasable hook + the version that can not detach, and I prefer the releasable hook. The non detachable is just not as quick to get on and off for someone that wears these 95% of the time. The non detachable doesn't hold the sizing tightness needed, so one must adjust at ever wear. I did not have an issue with the releasable hook, until almost 3 years into wearing the shoe, at which point it would release from time to time.
