These are the second pair that I've had and, when the previous pair started to let in a small amount of water after 500 miles, there was no question about buying another. They are amongst the lightest proper boots out there but fully waterproof, grippy and robust enough to deal with normal UK conditions. If you're planning a multi-day trek through inhospitable and rocky terrain, you might want to look for something more rugged but these will serve most buyers well.

Have a narrow foot, so I do like Salomon's.Agree with other reviewers that the toe box seems roomier in these boots than other Salomon's I've owned. But as usual, a soft foam insert takes care of the roominess in the toe box. I look forward to long hikes in these boots. Love the color green other than black or brown. I am a tall woman who always has to buy men's shoes in ugly, bland colors. These fit the bill.

I think they're an ugly green, she thinks they're teal and make my feet look unique.

Good shoe. Comfortable, I feel good city hiking, but the color, it's a kinda ugly-just-off lime green. Shoe is wide and high at the front of foot, while it's low and narrow at the heel. Cradle comfort with room to breath.

Five stars If one of the lace loops had not ripped after only about 4 weeks of use. I do wear them 5 days a week usually hiking around. Otherwise, the boots have been near perfect for me. Toe box is roomy, grip is great, heel is locked in, gore tex works in damp conditions, reasonably lightweight, runs a bit large in the toe box but that happened to be perfect for me and durable (except for the toe lace loop). More durable toe lace loops and this would be an outstanding boot, but I'd still recommend it anyways. Maybe mine were a fluke ?

I fear that in my earlier review I may have done this boot a disservice. I have now had the boots for over a month and done 3 x 20+km hikes in them. Initially although I felt that the boots were not as comfortable out of the box as my Quest 4D 3GTX boots were, they took very little breaking in and are now very comfortable. The second hike that I did was on a very wet and muddy Dartmoor (pics below), and they proved to have great grip and my feet stayed dry throughout the day. I have always found Salomon boots to be quite a narrow fit and so buy a half size bigger. This is not an ideal solution for me as I then find them slightly big, I thing the solution would be to be able to buy them in a wide fit. As I previously stated, they are not quite up to the standard of the Quest 4D 3GTX for me, but as the are considerably cheaper, I think they are worth buying. Overall a good choice for those that are looking for a sturdy, comfortable, and waterproof boot.

I have had these boots for about two years now and have found them comfortable to wear, with a good grippy sole. The didn't need breaking in and have been comfortable from the word go. One slight (and quite important) note is that the right boot leaks around the toes area, after a while of walking in wet grass or other wet conditions underfoot. I have found this to be a problem with other Salomon boots (X Ultra Mid GTXs - two pairs), where they have leaked like a sieve after about six months of use. I think that it is a problem of the Goretex liner not being robust enough.

these shoes are nice and lightweight but as a "mid" they were too tall for me and caused a pressure point on the outside of my ankle.

ok.. these are good hiking boots.. no doubt. I usually wear a 10.5 or 11 and since the 11s were too big, I went with the 10.5s. But, we get out in the woods on our trip and it's clear that the 10.5 is too big. There is a ton of volume in the toe box, which keeps air flowing but the extra 1/4 inch or so didn't give me the force I wanted scrambling up rocks. I'd definitely recommend them but order a step down than you usually would and, hike your stairs a few times...

Used these to climb Kilimanjaro. I wound up not being able to truly break these in, only got about 3 hours of hike time in before my trip. They wound up not really needing it; I didn't get blisters on the 3 hour hike or at all while climbing the mountain. Coming down, however, I wound up getting some serious blisters on the side of one foot and on my big toe on the other. They seemed to allow a lot of foot movement on the descent. So, 5 days of amazing comfort, and 1 day of discomfort.

So far I have used these boots a few times and they have been great. They are taking a bit to break in. The only issue is the shoe lace seperated after my first use so im holding it together till I am able to find a replacement long emough.

While I have not had the opportunity to backpack in these boots yet, they have proved to be trustworthy in mixed terrain hikes. They have provided ample support and protection against varied terrain and wet conditions. Thumbs up so far

Have not done a long walk wearing the boots yet. So far they are comfortable but seem to be slightly narrower than previous Saloman footwear with a little pressure on the small toes. I expect they will settle in.

Bought boot 1 month ago, fits great. Very comfortable and secure on my foot. Only thing I would like is a removable insert so I could change them out over time.

I have been on a few short walks 3 kms and 5 kilometers with no problems over the last month. Unfortunately, on my last walk of 11 killometers my feet became very sore after taking them off. The outer sides of both feet. Is it possible that they have shrunk? If not is there any way to strech them? Ive been using them for about 5 months.

Firstly I have to say that these boots were properly sized and fitted by the shop and in over 50 years of owning walking boots these have been the most comfortable I have had. They are ideal for the walking I do, predominantly countryside rambles with occasional mountains. I have had these boots for almost 3 years and they are falling apart. I contacted my supplier at 2 years when I noticed the leather splitting but they were not particularly interested so could not progress (I did not think of going direct to Salomon!). As they are now the leather has split in many places and, where it is not leather, the material is falling apart in a number of the areas where flexing occurs. I have patched the holes with Sugru to keep them going a bit longer - shopping here is problematic at present although I could try the on-line route (in my view not the best for footwear).
