First of all, the fit of the 2012 Palisades is much better in my opinion. I have multiple pairs of the old models and they feel a bit baggier in the thighs and lower legs. The new version seems to have trimmed the excess while still allowing for ample range of motion, a feature that has always been exceptional with these pants.
Additionally, the lack of the front zip pockets was welcome news to me as they seemed cumbersome in most situations. There is ample space in the thigh pockets for anything that needs carrying on your person during periods of intense use. They are pants, after all, and not a day pack.
The only real set back to the new design was the removal of the rear zip pocket. While not necessary it was handy at times. I'd feel more comfortable with it being left out if the price hadn't increased in its' absence.
That being said, these are still the finest pair of hiking, climbing, trekking and everything-in-between pants I've come across. The durability, fit and flexibility are second to none.

I'm an engineer. I'm not the greatest dresser, but with a stylish shirt, (the original design) two thigh and two hand zippered pockets work for me. I don't use the back pockets for anything but carrying cash.
I have never dropped my cell phone, because it goes from my hand to my zippered pocket. I carry my foldable glasses & earphones in my left thigh pocket. I carry my iPhone in my left zippered hip pocket. I carry my lite weight credit card folder in my right hip pocket. I carry my shades in my left thigh zippered pocket. Since I bought the old style (all zipper pockets), I have never dropped, lost or had any items fall out of my pockets.
I have taken the old style zipper pants to a tailor,...yes a tailor, to have them refurbished, because there is no other pant on the market that is so "practical" for carrying cargo. I agree with BusyB, bring back the original zippered pockets. I believe in new technology, but don't change something until you come up with something that's better. My girlfriend calls my all zipper pockets my "high tech" pants. I have very nice dress pants that I do not wear, because they can't transport my iPhone and everything else that I carry for work and leisure. BRING BACK THE ALL ZIPPER POCKETED PANT!! No one else makes a pant like this but ARC'TRYX.

I am a hard person to please, and fit. I have always had large legs, and finding a pant that allowed unrestricted movement, without looking like 'painter' pants has always been a problem. These are the Goldilocks pant, not too tight, not too loose. They are stretchy, and allow complete freedom of movement. I have used them for every day use, rock climbing, cross country skiing (over long johns), traveling to Europe, (i.e. they 'do' the street just fine, thank you) the gym, etc. etc. I own three pair, but am considering buying more just in case Arcteryx decides to drop or change them!

I bought these pants last summer and wore them on all of my backpacking and guiding trips. They are incredibly light and airy for hot, long days on the trail but durable enough to stand up to repeated backcountry use.
The zippered thigh pockets are useful for keeping a write in the rain book, lip chap, camp knife and other camping knick knacks.
The adjustable waist is a nice feature as I struggle with fitting my waist to my hips and thighs in pants.
I wish these pants were a bit longer though as they tended to slip above the tops of my hiking boots but not the end of the world.

These are probably the best hiking pants I've ever had. The pockets are FANTASTIC - the best pockets of any pants ever. Finding women's pants with four, large, functional, zippered, secure pockets is incredible. Most other women's pants have maybe one zippered pocket and it's usually tiny. Secure and functional pockets are essential, especially for hiking and field work, so these pants beat all others, hands down. The material is great and dries fast - cool in warm weather and the fit is great so I can add a base layer underneath to wear them in cooler weather. I agree with the other reviewers that we need a black colour (black sapphire = blue; I want actual black pants), that the weird seam across the thigh is the worst part of these pants (serves no purpose except to squeeze your thigh when you move/bend down = very unflattering), and that the belt is a little useless (using my own belt would probably be better so I can attach stuff if needed). I'd like them to be a bit tapered at the ankle - I've worn mine a lot for hiking/walking and the bottom hem is ragged and torn because it catches on everything; a slightly tapered bottom leg would be better for hiking in varied terrain.

Sometimes two awesome pieces of gear are not compatible. I love my Osprey Atmos AG 65 and it has been my "turtle shell" for close to 4,000 miles no signs of wear until I wore a new pair of pants.
I love my Arc'Teryx traverse Palisade Pant. Light weight, quick dry, no stink, 4 front pockets, and a slightly higher waistline. Great pants for swamps, Bushcraft, Thu-Hikes, and is an upgrade to the BSA pant.
Unfortunately, there is a zippered back pocket. Durring a 40 mile Leave no Trace training hike that little zipper became attached a few times to the soft and supportive honeycomb like mesh on my Atmos. This has resulted in some fraying of the mesh.
I've decided to place a patch on the pants and on my backpack. The miles will tell if this was a good solution. I don't understand why the Arc'Teryx designers put a zipper where it would get caught on a backpack.

I own three pair of these. I love the fit. The pants move with you and the crotch isn't baggy. The cargo pockets are great, as are the zip pockets and the integral belt. The fabric is very lightweight - perfect for desert hiking. But they are described as able "to withstand rugged backcountry travel" with "outstanding durability." This hasn't been my experience. I've used them extensively for hiking and backpacking, including off-trail. On my original pair, the butt seam is failing, and I've had to gear-aid patch some spots on the legs. Prana stretch Zion holds up better (but is heavier.) My two newer pair of Palisades will be reserved for travel and around town. Great pants, but with durability issues.

I bought these pants and used them for around 10 days non-stop. They're more or less mosquito proof and wind proof. I had trouble finding pants that could fit my squat thighs, but these did.
The thigh pockets need a redo in my opinion because they are too small for say a map and a map case.

I really do love these pants. I totally recommend them for light duty use, including travel pants, sun pants, bug pants, hiking in mild terrain, city parks, photography, etc.
My pair developed a tear in the seat after no more than 5 uses, and I am normally a careful and gentle user. Based on my personal experience I cannot recommend them for wilderness travel in mountains. Mine tore somewhere in the Weminuche Wilderness last September. They are great in the mountain application if you can live with small tears that would tend to render them inappropriate for general use around town. In fact, I like them so much I may buy another pair that won't be allowed to see rough trail or off trail duty.

Travel to tropical countries often and mostly wear long pants for sun protection. Gamma lt is definitely too warms. Always used Salomon Wayfarer and decided to try the palisade because I like the gamma lt (shorts and pants) so much. Pants are ok, but not better overall than the cheaper wayfarer.. Maybe they are more durable, though the wayfarers are quite sturdy as well. OK pant for my purposes, not great.

After going through several brands, I think I found my perfect everyday outdoor pants. I use them primarily for climbing but also hiking and backpacking.
Pros:
Cut is slimming but provides adequate movement
Belt is adjustable for comfort - the new 2019 buckle is upgraded and a nice touch.
Material is durable and scratch/tear resistant (helpful when climbing)
Pockets are exactly where you need it and are nice and"tight" vs "loose" hanging
Quick drying - I was in a downpour in Norway and was surprised how quickly the pants went from drenched to dry during breaks in rain!
Cons:
Sizing has changed - its now a looser/relaxed fit. I purchased two pairs in 2017 and one in 2019 - both size 30 x 32. The 2017 model was literally perfect, however the 2019 model definitely felt much looser around the waist, thigh, and knee. I ultimately sized down to a 28, and it feels alright, but tight around the thigh...a 29 would've been a nice option.
Overall, still my favorite pair and hard to find a better pant, but hoping for a 2017 model return!

Black sapphire=blue but I would prefer for Arcteryx to bring back a true black colour option.
I find the current small hip pockets useless and uncomfortable when used, and found the old double pockets on the thighs as being much more useful during hikes.

These fit a little on the large side. Inseam is off. Zappos sends a 31 if you request a 32, but it still works for me since the fit is overall a little large. I will size down if I order another pair. The quality is excellent . I have these in several colors.

Love them for super breathability and featherweight. Superb. Awesome for airline travel, travel in general. Arcteryx needs to make more dual cargo pocket pants.
The below critiques applies to the Palisade shorts too. I've two 2015/16 pairs which are looser:
1. Make a 33 waist or make them slightly looser in waist hip area. They do kind of stretch out, but not nearly enough.
2. As others have said hand pockets way way too shallow. Your cell phone practically hangs out. You really have to be mindful to zip them every time or risk losing something.

Great Pants, I have a couple of pairs of different colors.
It seems the newer ones are a bit heavier than the previous version.
The one thing I don't like about them is when it's hot they seemed to retain moisture inside the pants.
If it's cooler out they fine, under 80 degrees for me.
I love that they have 2 sets of thigh pockets and wish they would do that for more pants, and they are vertical thigh zips as well, I prefer the horizontal ones.
I have to move around a lot at work, crawl on the ground, need some handy pockets and sometimes put them through their paces as well, so these are good for the studio.
Zips on all pockets.
I'd recommend them.

I ordered a size 10/30 but received a 10/29 and I can attest that the 29 is too short for me at 5'6". Overall, I think these trousers will be good once I get the right size. Light breathable fabric, and lots of useful pockets. Perfect for hiking. I usually wear an 8 but find I need a 10 in "trim" fit Arc'teryx. Unlike an older version of these trousers that I own, these have a cozy soft waist band. I love the snap and hook at the waist, saving the trouble of adding a belt which I usually need. Unfortunately, the fabric is very noisy and not quite as nice as my old pair. I notice that these are made in Indonesia while my old ones were made in Bangladesh. Clearly there's been a fabric change along with a few design tweaks. Luckily, the fit seems the same -- at least I think it will be once I get the correct inseam.

The zipper for the fly is too short to do your business without undoing the belt and front button.
