I commute by bus, ferry and foot -- and this bag is perfect. This is my third Timbuk2 bag in over 20 years -- I keep them for a long time, as they last and last. Finally wore out my old laptop bag (so much so that it cannot be handed down to anyone) and needed something slimmer and light. This bag delivers. It's sleeker than my last one, lightweight, holds a ton of stuff, has lots of quick-access pockets and the straps are super well made and comfortable. Solid!

I love that it has three colors and that everything I need to take with me fits. Sadly, due to the pandemic it waits to be shown off to the world but for now I just love how it fits my personal style.

This is a great backpack for those that are on the go that don't want to carry something too bulky. This backpack all my everyday essentials for work but stays on the slimmer side. The material and the color is this backpack was also amazing as expected from any Timbuk2 product!

High level summary: The Swig is a great commuter bag in that it's flat/unobtrusive, has tons of compartments to keep you organized, and the buckles are not very easy to unbuckle which elevates the security level for protecting your possessions. The Cloud color is beautiful in person, and I think the bag looks better in real life than the photos. Highly recommend!
More detailed review:
I've been in the market for a backpack with good organizational features, like plenty (and a wide variety) of well-designed pockets. While I wasn't initially the biggest fan of the Swig (relative to some of its sleeker-looking peers), it definitely is top notch when it comes to pockets! All the compartments really enable you to stay organized so your backpack doesn't become one giant black hole, which I've found to be my #1 complaint for other backpacks I own.
The buckles do require a little strength to pinch, which does make me feel more secure in terms of pick pocketing. If someone did manage to open the main compartment without me realizing, there's also another zippered pocket inside that I use for my wallet for extra safeguarding!
The one drawback is I haven't found a way to easily open the main compartment and dig around in the bag while slinging it off one shoulder (the way I normally would with a zippered backpack). The flap sort of gets in the way, but it's not a big deal to me.
Color-wise, I got Cloud and can verify the photos on the website are pretty accurate. The middle panel is actually gray with a slight purple tinge in my opinion, which I love.
The backpack wears quite comfortably. Note that it is 2.2 lbs, but the weight was not noticeable for me.
I haven't tested this in the rain yet, but the main flap seems to be made of a water-resistant material. Based on that and feedback from fellow reviewers, I am pretty confident my stuff won't get soaked if I get caught in a storm.
Overall, love this backpack and highly recommend!

I really needed a new backpack for commuting by LIRR and NYC subway. My husband suggested a TIMBUK2 back pack and I found this one on sale. It has so many places to store my classroom keys, tissues, pens, an umbrella, and other little things as well as an awesome spot for my iPad. I specifically went with this brand and this pack because it is stylish, comfortable to wear, and none of my things got wet during today's rain showers. I would definitely recommend this specific bag as well as this brand itself. I never want to replace this bag but If I ever have to I will only stick with TIMBUK2!

I got this backpack to replace an aging (well loved) Sling Catapult. I love the top flap design which makes it easy to get at everything inside. There are a ton of zipper pouches to help you organize everything for your travels. I am able to fit my 15" gaming laptop, my Nintendo Switch, a musical instrument (OTAMATONE!!!), an umbrella, and so much more all at the same time! I am never using any other brand of bag!

Great little waterproof backpack for my laptop, tablet, paper schedule, and some snacks. Lots of slots for organizing my things. Love the zippable water bottle holder.

I went by the NOHO location here in New York City on Saturday with my wife, we took advantage of donating our unused bags for a good cause and also getting a discount for the purchase of our new Timbuk2 bags. I purchased the new Swig Bookish bag which not only is amazing to the eyes, yet ergonomically perfect on my back and light enough and not bulky for my busy commutes to and from work on the subway ride. As I mentioned with my first purchase, Timbuk2 is just an amazing business that I will continue to put my faith and purchases with.
Thank you,
Charles

Just what I was looking for my city riding
holds my folded yoga mat with room for a raincoat
A u lock holder a place for a blinking tail light
And it conforms to my body while riding I hardly notice it .

I got this pack to be my daily commuter bag. It's super slim which is perfect for packed trains and busy sidewalks but I was worried there wouldn't be enough organization in such a thin bag but was way wrong. This bag has so many little pockets and separate pouches that it's perfect. I love it so far.

I started to use this for graduate school after I finished my coursework. I like the style and the laptop slot but the only real issue I have with it is the compartment size. Since the pouches push into the backpack, it puts a lot of pressure on my laptop display and damaged a hinge on my laptop so if the compartment pouches we're designed to push out of the laptop then I think it would be much better. If they added about an inch to the inside of the main compartment I think it would be perfect because then that would give you more room to pull out your pens/pencils/etc. But overall I still think it's well designed and high quality

I got this backpack to bring laptop and work supplies to-and-from my office. I commute via car, so I can't speak to how it fits when biking. But I will say that it's quite comfortable, stays slim even with a lot of things in the main pocket. Side zipper for access to laptop is quick handy. Materials seem pretty hardy too. I am a normal sized female and it is not too wide. Definitely recommend!

I love my new Swig backpack! The buckles, which are hidden by the flap, keep things secure (think crowded train), but the hidden side zip allows super easy access to my laptop or other things I store in that large space. There is another hidden zipper to an outside pocket for easy (for me) wallet access. There are also plenty of other zippered pockets for easy organization. Best of all, its default position is very thin and hanging-strap-free - doesn't look like I'm going on an expedition when I go to work.

This is my 5th Timbuk2 bag and it has to be my favorite. Avoiding the Velcro is nice and the amount of pockets and place to put things is magnificent. That should be shown in the video and it would have made it easier to buy. The fit on me is perfect. I rarely do reviews but this bag encourage me. Hope it last long because I'm feeling this one. Peace y'all hope I helped someone.

This backpack is very well made and super comfortable to carry. My old backpack hurt my back but this one distributes the weight very well and feels like and comfortable. Well worth the money.

I appreciate the "taller", slimline design of this backpack because it helps keep things situated vertically along my back rather than falling into a large compartment. That said, having been accustomed to carrying much bigger bags capable of fitting large, bulky things it does feel limited in space at first (because, I mean, it is!). However, pretty quickly I figured out better methods for packing it that just take a little bit of forethought and maneuvering - it's like Tetris, but on your back. Because of this setup, that side zipper is a very handy addition.
It would truly be an all-purpose bag if it were just a little more spacious, width-wise. While the top flap + straps gives a certain amount of expandability, for grocery runs or bigger hauls obviously I'll need something else, but this is more than adequate for everyday, medium size loads.
You wouldn't think "too many pockets" is a problem, but since it's more of a bucket and can be hard to quickly see all the way down on the inside, it's easy for your hand to get confused between so many similar zippers and pockets. It may be useful, but it's not necessarily intuitive, so will take time to get used to.

I needed a backpack with good organization options and this is it. I can carry the essentials, wallet, phone, keys, lip color, hand lotion, sunglasses and still be able to carry my work lap top as well as my knitting with no problem. And a water bottle! The monochrome color is perfect for work as well as running around town. Comfortable fit. Love it! Glad i made this purchase!

The backpack is great for daily commute, as it is stylish and durable. I have no concerns about using this backpack in rainy weather.
Only thing lacking is an outside pocket for easy access to small items such as keys..

I use it to commute to work. It's bigger and sturdier than I thought. Material is really good quality (maybe too good) because thick and well made.
My complain is, despite the big size/appearance, the volume inside isn't that big. So I can't put too much inside. Also, it's heavy, even when it's empty.
I love the color, Bookish.

I carry too many things so this bag brings on a "Hunger Games" style process of what goes in. I only take the things I need so if you have few things or needs something for a vacation, this is perfect !

The backpack was a gift for my husband. He had an old swig backpack that he was able to design and loved it but it was pretty beat up. He always mentioned that he would have liked if the old swig had more pockets to stash stuff as well as a key fob. The new swig had all that and he was really happy. Great pack for cycling since he is a cyclist and often cycles to work. Would be great if we could customize.
