I bought this jacket to double as a hiking softshell and as a day to day jacket. Be aware that this is an extremely thin soft shell and provides little to no insulation, I mainly use this on warm days but still need some sleeves. The fit is excellent and the water resistant finish is a welcome addition, when hiking it means I don't have to pull out my hardshell if it is only light drizzle. The fleece like lining around the collar is a great addition and provides a bit of extra warmth to keep out the cold. The zips on the jacket are some of the smoothest I have ever used. Uses: 1. Great for hiking in mild weather to wear over a base layer (extremely thin to provide some elemental protection) but will not be too hot. 2. Urban environments, this is my day-to-day jacket, its minimalist look means it is just as suited to the streets as it is on the mountains An issue I do have is the size of the inner pocket, I do not understand why it cannot be made larger, it is an awkward size that doesn't really let me fit much inside - the size of a phone would be nice Overall: This is no doubt an expensive jacket for its size and weight, if you are looking for great build quality then this is it but if a thicker insulating soft shell is what you are after then look elsewhere.

I mainly use this jacket for going to work and light walking. It is very light weight, cut well and feels very comfortable. It is shower resistant. I think the cuffs are a very neat design.

This was the piece of clothing that really switched me onto Arcteryx. The medium size fits my 6' 1" 168 lb frame perfectly. The longish arm length and slight drop back mean the jacket works well for biking. It keeps moderately heavy rain out for at least 10 mins. The soft, quiet fabric is tough, surviving hard scrapes against bricks and stone. Best of all, it works perfectly with an Atom LT and together they make an incredible 3-in-1 system that keeps sees me through autumn-spring in the UK on all but the few coldest or wettest days.

I absolutely love this thing. From a practicality stand point I found it hard to justify because the Atom LT is such an incredibly versatile piece that I wasnt sure I needed a soft shell. Turns out, I wear this thing constantly. Its durable, got great stretch, comfortable hand pockets, light weight, and blocks the wind just the right amount. Overall its an excellent spring/fall jacket for layering with a tshirt, long sleeve, or a delta ar/lt. not waterproof, but repels light rain well. I And oh, its got that extra classy look with the stitched on logo.

Really served its purpose as a lightweight layer. I wore this jacket as an outer layer over a t-shirt and it worked well for 60 degree weather. I also layered it over a fleece mid-layer and also a LT vest. Between the three it really kept out the wind and cold, on a cloudy, windy 50 degree day with light rain. Definitely like the feel of the product and how it wears. Look forward to many more urban treks with it!

I bought this as an everyday spring/fall jacket. I get compliments on the fit all the time, it holds up well in rain and bad weather, I would almost say it was waterproof. The stretch allows for great movement.

The official Arc'teryx statement of "Durable and breathable, wind and moisture resistant softshell jacket for everyday use" is really 100% spot on. Very versatile & functional. Obviously not really suitable for a real winter use but for rest of the year it works fine. It does not block all the wind and precisely because of that I like it since it allows to avoid clamminess. So this jacket breathes quite well, especially when considering the material is not so thin. Jacket has a simple, streamlined and rather stylish outlook. Equally at home when hiking or walking around downtown. Stands up to the rain rather nicely, for sure it does not replace a proper rain jacket as such but against light rain or even medium rain it performs well. I noticed some complaints about too long sleeves. For me (6"1', 185lbs, using Large) the sleeves and rest of jacket sizing is just fine. I've had the jacket now for 4-5 years and it's as good as new. So certainly another 4-5 years in it, very likely more. It is rather sturdy and well built, so not really a super light-weight as such. It has become my go-to-jacket, suitable for almost any use!

This softshell is an everyday workhorse. I've worn one on a regular basis from 2005 to 2013. The only major repair it ever needed was a new front zipper after 5 years of wear and tear hiking and motorbiking through South and Southeast Asia as well as East and West Africa. I do wish this one had more pockets like the MX and when it gets very cold, you need an underlayer on this one unlike the MX. With that said, this one is very useful for hiking in chilly and wet climates and won't underheat you. It does fit a little long on the sleeves and doesn't have velcro wraps like the MX. So if the sleeves are long on you, you are sort of screwed and might want to return it and grab one with wrist tightening cuffs. Still, I can't tell you how much use this jacket has gotten and it is still kicking. If you send this in to Arcteryx for repairs every once in a blue moon, it will probably last forever.

As expected for Arc'teryx gear, the jacket is meticulously crafted, with perfect seams and stitching. The jacket has a sleek athletic fit, which looks great in the city, or out on the trail.

My Gamma LT arrived today in black, size large and I love it. Beautifully constructed garment which looks great on. Mirrors beware! Seriously though, not only does it look great but I KNOW that this will be one of my main stay pieces which will be worn daily due to functionality. Like so many others I fear I may becoming addicted to Arc'teryx!

Absolutely perfect for a cool day. Love the style, it looks really sharp. It doesn't get you too warm so I never feel like I'm burning up. Blocks the wind effectively and does quite well with light rain. This is gonna be my jacket of choice till temps drop real cold. Super easy to take on/off

I've had this jacket for more than a year now, and it has become my undisputed favorite. I fear I've become addicted to Arc'teryx now. My jacket (black model) still looks brand new, no rips, stains, undone seams or noticeable wear. Other jackets quickly gets worn on elbows and sleeves, but not this one. Its fairly water and wind resistant, which makes it great for layering. I use it everyday in the north of Norway, just with thicker mid-layer during winter. And I love the streamlined athletic fit. Makes me want to buy another one just in a different color, or perhaps its LEAF counterpart the Drac jacket :) I'm going to Thailand now(rain season), and I just can't leave this jacket at home, after all it doesn't take much space :)

I have had this jacket almost a year now and it still looks brand new. I wear it all the time. I use it to trail-run, go to the gym, and as an all round jacket to wear day to day. I have never had a jacket that was so breathable and waterproof and I have owned them all. North Face, Columbia, Marmont don't make a jacket that comes even close to this one. Arc'teryx is my brand now.

Nearly all of my winter hiking takes place in the White Mountains in New Hampshire. While I'm almost guaranteed to be wearing a hard shell above treeline, before (and after) that point a significant portion of each hike takes place below the alpine zone. It's during these phases that small changes in terrain and weather conditions result in significant fluctuation in body temperature. I found I was frequently adding/removing mid layers or my hard shell depending on my level of exertion, the amount of wind, and whether there was any precipitation. This was getting tedious, and forcing me to stop more often that I wanted to. Although Arc'Teryx advertises this as a 3-season jacket, I've found it's exactly what I was looking for to solve my winter problem. It's not insulated, which means I don't overheat when the hike gets more aggressive. It offers reasonable wind protection when the breeze picks up. It keeps light precipitation from soaking in. It's very breathable. And as a small bonus, the material is stretchy enough that I can keep my sleeves rolled up comfortably when I need to make small adjustments to skin exposure to regulate temperature. But to keep things realistic, this jacket is not meant for high wind, or very cold temperatures. I treat this jacket as an ideal way to keep some of the elements off me when going in just a base-layer is too cold/wet, and even a light mid-layer is too much insulation. Bottom line: Instead of making frequent stops below treeline to adjust my layers, I can wear a base layer plus this jacket for almost the entire sub-alpine portion of the hike. I can make small adjustments by zipping or unzipping the front, and taking the sleeves up and down. In short, the conditions vary a lot more either way before I'm forced to stop and adjust my layers.

I have only had this one for a few months but have found it to be extremely versatile. First, I'm 6'4", 200lbs (34"waste; 44" chest; 36"sleeve) and the large fits me perfectly. I have used it in weather ranging from 50-degrees with a t-shirt underneath to 25-degrees with a warm base layer underneath. I don't have a lot of extra room with the large, so for me, a close fitting base layer is necessary. I've used it for running, hiking, and climbing in a variety of weather. It breathes extremely well, which is rare for a soft shell that also sheds water as well as this one does. The only other soft shell I've had was from Marmot. It doesn't fit nearly as well and thus I haven't worn it much. All the stuff from Arc'teryx is relatively expensive but I haven't found anything that is better fitting or better quality.

I have now owned this jacket for around 2 years and absolutely love it. I originally thought I would use it primarily for climbing/outdoor pursuits in milder clims, but liked it so much more than my other options that it has evolved into my go to jacket for everyday. The fabric is incredibly durable, with no significant sign of wear after continual use for two years. The water repellency has started to fade a bit in dirtier areas where skin oils reek havoc like sleeve and neck cuffs, but overall I have been very impressed with its ability to bead water (this is a softshell after all). I wouldn't trust it in a downpour, but it will keep you plenty dry in a light drizzle. The jacket material has great stretch and breaths well. I now bike into work in mine 200 days or better a year. Zip up the pockets if it is on the cool side but open them up and the mesh lining provides a great vent. The longer cut in the back is also nice to protect one from road nastiness thrown up in the rain. The fit is relatively snug (especially wrists and underarms) so purchase a bit bigger if you are planning on layering, but personally I feel the beauty of this piece is you can wear it on a cool summer evening over a T-shirt or over a long sleeve flannel in the fall and as long as you stay moving it is more than enough right down to 40 F. Again, love the jacket, still get jealous comments from friends about it on regular occasion. Will replace it immediately if I ever manage to trash this one, which will be a hefty endeavor.

I've had this jacket for a couple of years now and it's my favorite. It still looks new, although I've used it a lot and climbed many routes with it. The fabric is really tough and durable. I like the overall minimalist and practical design. The jacket is not insulated, but it blocks wind very well and still gives you some warmth. If it gets cold, I just add layers under it. In summertime I use a t-shirt and the jacket. Most softshells are too hot to climb with, but not this one, unless the temperature gets close to 20 degrees Celsius, and then you wouldn't want to wear a jacket anyway. Huge pockets that are easy to access are a great advantage.

Comfortable jacket. Fits true to size. Sleeves a bit long but the elastic cuffs are tight so not a problem. Inside pocket is ridiculously small. Too small for a phone.

Absolutely fantastic, light soft shell jacket. The slight issue being is I bought this in the colour Habitat after choosing what I thought would be a light beige. The tag on the jacket says Habitat but the jacket I have received is a light green colour, not beige at all. Even the logo badge stitching while it matches the jacket I have, it's far from the one on the site. It's a keeper but surprised at the actual colour.

I bought this jacket last spring, and have used it regularly as a casual windbreaker and about town jacket. Wore it in the Rockies for a few days in the fall in windy, drizzly conditions, it was performed better than expected and breathed well. My only criticism is that the arms are way too long for any normally sized person. Arcteryx, wake up! Not everybody who buys your products is 6' 6" and skinny as a bean pole. The cuffs are also designed so that it is quite difficult to have them shortened.

Purchased this jacket as a light shell in misty conditions... Loved it until I purchased the gamma sl... Got this jacket in robotica... Most people were concerned with the lightness of color and staining etc. Any she everything that's rubbed off on this jacket going up a mountain or walking through the woods has wiped right off. So durability is top notch.
