This shoe is, per New Balance, the "new model" of the old W840V2. I was disappointed the old one was discontinued, but looked forward to trying this. Unfortunately it is not at all similar, and I am returning it. The v2 had a much thicker sole, with far less flexibility in the forefoot. This shoe bends so easily it might as well be a flip-flop. I need an exercise shoe with little to no flexibility in the forefoot (due to severe metatarsal pain), and this no longer fits the bill. I'm not sure why New Balance issued a replacement model that doesn't actually replace (or improve upon) a major feature of the previous version. Time to look elsewhere.

I'm very picky about athletic shoes, and because of my shoe size, I cannot typically find any in stores to even try on. I initially bought these in silver/blue, and found them to be true to size for length and width. I am able to fit my orthotics in them without issue. After 9 months of daily wear for gym use, they have held up well, although starting to wear a hole in the fabric above my big toe. I have not any issues with bad fit, sore feet or ankles. I've been so satisfied with this particular shoe, that I ordered my second pair today in thunder/galaxy.

Very disappointed that this shoe didn't have enough depth in the toe box for my foot. I always order up one-half size in NB and the shoe fit well except for the depth.

I have worn New Balance for many years, and while the shoes are comfortable, there is a lot of slippage in the heels. Other reviewers have reported this same problem. They are going back and I will try another style of NB!

Great shoe! I usually wear a size 9 but had to order a 9 1/2. I wear a full length orthotic and this shoe provides plenty of toe room. If I use the last hole at the top of the shoe when lacing the shoe, I have no heel slippage. I hope this shoe will be around for a long time because I have trouble finding shoes that fit my orthotic.

Overtime, many athletic shoes have gotten smaller for the same size. I wear a narrow in what used to be a 12 and now a 13. The ASICS shoe I bought every year for 5 years finally got to small. Switched over to this one, perfect!

love these shoes but oddly the tongue dies not come up quite high enough. i know that sounds weird but it makes a difference! i have many pairs of new balance and this is the only one with a short tongue. i still love them, though. super comfortable.

These are great! I ordered 7.5 wide, which is my actual size. As other reviewers said, the heel is not too loose if you use the extra holes for the laces. I did not use the very last set of holes, though, because they cut into the front of my foot when I tried that. It also helps to have reasonably thick athletic socks. I like that these shoes are flexible. I don't think I like shoes that are too stiff, though the flexibility might be a drawback for some people. I also like the colors and appreciate that all three options come in wide. I hope they keep making these.

This model is tight for a NB in a D width, especially in the instep. My feet are incredibly hard to fit--wide toebox, narrow heel and a high instep. I have almost worn out the last pair of my old 940 V2's, of which I probably purchased 8 pairs before not being able to find them any longer. Nothing else has fit again, yet. This shoe has a strangely short shoelace, is tight in the width of the toebox and tight in the instep where the lacing starts. NB can be loose in heels when wide in the toebox sometimes; these are ok, but not perfect for a narrow heel.

I have been wearing the NB 840V3 style for approx. 2 years. This is 3rd pair. Love the way these make my feet feel and love the color.

I have metatarsalgia, and these shoes are perfect because the sole under the ball of the foot and the toes is not very flexible. I put my own orthotics in them. I have two pairs--the white with pink and blue, and the pale green with blue. Both are gorgeous.

Both the men's and woman's 840 V3 I are the best shoes ever made! After I got my pair, I had to get my wife a pair. We are both a little on the heavier side and have been trying to get active, but our feet would hurt so much when we tried. But since we got these shoes, we have been able to consistently walk long distances without any foot pain. The only downside is they stopped making the V3 and the V4 does not feel the same. Please bring back the V3!!!!'

I have metatarsalgia so I need a shoe that doesn't bend easily under the toes and ball of the foot, and this shoe works well. Since I also have high arches, I need to wear orthotics, and they fit perfectly in the 840v3. I'm so happy that I'm going to order another pair. Thank you, Zappos, for carrying size 5 and smaller!

Love my New Balances! Since rupturing my disc 2 years ago, it is so important I find a pair of shoes with cushioning and support. These are better than I hoped for!

I've worn this same style shoe for more than ten years now. My foot doctor recommended them to support overpronation. No other shoe I've tried gives me the special support that makes walking bearable. I love the current color and always look for a change to white, but that hasn't happened yet. I'll keep buying this shoe as long as they keep producing them.

These shoes are a good fit and comfortable. I have a narrow foot and all I buy, sneaker wise, are New Balance. No need to change that theory after these shoes either.

After having foot surgery I needed a shoe with good arch support. These have been excellent for balance, walking and arch support. I would highly recommend this shoe to anyone looking for arch support or a really good walking shoe.

I was never ever found any shoes that were comfortable for my left foot. I am not a runner. Can't run because of lung problems. However these shoes help me walk faster and for a long period of time. I also own 585 (maybe 595) with Rollbar sole. I was OK with it. But this 840/v3 I am tally satisfied. My left foot is a little strange. I have to skip a couple of holes near my toes to make the left shoe more comfortable..

Thank you, ZAPPOS, for carrying 11-1/2 narrows, and even 12's!!! For shoes to fit long, narrow feet! Cannot find elsewhere. Shoe fits well, comfortable, good room in toe box. Highly recommend. (In fact I bought 3 pair.) Did not realize how squnched my toes were in size 11 shoes, and never have found narrow running shoes until now They do accommodate an orthotic, as well as a lace-up ankle brace. Hurray!

I must preface my review by saying I am not a runner. I stand and walk a lot at work. I have multiple foot issues including: high arch and instep, plantar fasciitis, extremely wide feet and I am over weight. I have prescription orthotics that I wear in all of my other shoes. I do not need them in these shoes. The arch support and overall cushioning in these shoes is excellent. My feet are well support.ed The cushioning in the shoes also gives my knees a break. Please make more shoes with this style foot bed! The width of these shoes is also nice.

These shoes are awesome! I typically wear new balance and they fit true to size. I overpronate or walk on the sides of me feet and have plantar fasciitis. These shoes offer just the right support to keep my feet feeling good and prevent the flair ups of plantar fasciitis. I bought these last year and have worn them a lot for exercise and work. I’m back to buy a second pair!
