Mine came with thick, wide and ugly brown (cotton?) shoelaces, not the thin ones shown in the photos. I had to return my first pair due to wrong size and the correct size also has these same wide shoelaces. I did not buy them for the style, but the shoelaces makes them quite ugly. Please use accurate product photos.

These shoes are so very, very comfortable. I especially appreciate the human-shaped wide toe box and what I believe is a “zero-drop” toe-to-heel ratio of the sole. As with other brands, it is difficult to get healthful shoes that are also stylish — this is a constant struggle for those of us who have to wear suits for work. These shoes, I think, will be fine with a sport coat and chino look but I would still like to see a cork-based shoe that stylish enough for wearing with a suit. Finally, as other customers have commented, this shoe (in brown) arrived with ugly, flat, brown cloth laces instead of the rounded, cord-like laces shown in the picture at this web-site. When I inquired about this, Zappos’ customer service was extremely kind, helpful, and generous in their compensation. This must be one of the reasons why so many people like Zappos! Thank you.

Hands down the best casual shoe I've ever owned. Looks good with dress pant or jeans. I bought them for work and wear them all day long.

These Memphis shoes are definitely sized different than the 2 pair purchased 3 years ago. The old 45s are longer than the new ones and the new 46s are longer than the old 45s. I decided to go with the 46s. Good choice! This was the first time in 3 years that I kept new shoes on all day. Over the years my feet have changed and these Birkenstocks are the only shoe I'm sure I can wear. Why try to reinvent the wheel? While these seem expensive at first, remember they last a long time. Two pair rotated lasted 3 years. That's about $12 a month for shoes. The soles of the old ones look like new and the tops aren't too bad. What finally broke down was the cork insole which I replaced with the blue Birkenstock insoles. I didn't like the increased cushion. Be sure to find replacement laces to keep on hand. For some reason, it seems like no store carries the shorter flat shoe laces. I prefer flat laces because they stay tied better than round laces. If you have problem feet that are wide and you need arch support, give these a try. Also remember as we age, our feet grow. Get them measured. Zappos is the perfect place to buy because of the service and they stand behind the products they sell.

Just received these today after ordering yesterday - awesome service. Compared with 2 pair of Memphis I purchased 3 years ago in size 45, these are shorter and a bit narrower. The size 46 is a bit longer than the old size 45. My inclination is to keep the size 46 and exchange 2 size 45. I have spent the last three years looking for a shoe that fits like Memphis. Of the 30 or so pair I've tried, none worked for me and many were donated after 20 minutes of wear. Maybe these aren't the most fashionable shoes to wear with a suit, but they are the only ones I've been able to wear in 3 years. The old ones were the brown/black with the bumpy leather. The new ones are smooth great quality leather that will polish to a nice shine. Old ones made in Germany, new ones made in Portugal. These are high quality shoes and will last a couple years. I rotated 2 pair every other day and got 3 years from them. They are actually still good for casual wear except one pair of the insoles are shot.

A great alternative for my dress shoes. Had plantar fasciitis. These helped tremendously.

Comfortable enough for a casual shoe but their well-made construction elevates them. Could be worn as a casual work shoe even.

Worth the high price! My husband has leg and back pain, and these shoes really help. The black is a full size smaller than the brown.

I travel for work and began to develop my plantar fasciitis. Birkenstocks have been my go to show for casual but in business, my Londons won't work. Then I found these shoes. I'm so pleas d with them. Great conference modern, excellent fit and support and they work with a suit.

This shoe is still new to me although I discovered the traditional sandals last year. I am looking for the comfort and support of the saddle in a daily shoe for work and I think I have found it. One correction to the Zappos description, the Shoe is made in Portugal, not Germany. I suspect the insole is German. ZAPPOS - Please correct your description. Looking forward to getting another pair in brown.

I really wanted to like these shoes, but I found them very difficult to get on my high-instep foot. I tried multiple different weights of socks to see if I had any that would work with these shoes. If they laced further down the foot, they might have worked for me. Unfortunately, the two-eyelet lacing doesn't open up far enough for my foot. For someone with a lower-instep or lower volume foot, these should work well. The insole is the same as the other closed-toe, fashion Birkenstocks and would have provided the same good support as my Birkenstock Stowe boots. Subtracting one star for styling that limits wearability of the shoe.

I had ordered the dark brown, received black shoes. But besides the fact that they were the wrong color the bottom of the soles were dirty! I am sending them back for both reasons.

These are wonderfully comfortable and they look great, too. Now I get to wear Birks all year around, not just in summer.

The shoe is one of the best all-around shoe is available! They go well with jeans or khakis. The comfort is a very well thought out and managed. If you want good shoes look no further than these. You will not be disappointed.

I replaced a 10+ year old pair of birks with these. These ran a bit smaller than before. I went up one size and all was good.

This shoe is excellent for flat arches as well as over pronation, as to style it is quite versatile being appropriate with both dress slacks and jeans. Overall well made but had to send the first pair back due to inconsistent application of leather dye and poorly trimmed leather where it is sewn to the sole. Thankfully Zappos excels in customer service. They sent out a replacement and refunded the first pair before I shipped them back. The second pair are flawless.

Was looking for a dressier Birkenstock, but this came the closest to a dress shoe they had. Needed something with good arch support because of Plantar Fasciitis. These did the trick, but feel a bit narrow. Very well made.

I'm a big Birkenstock shoe fan and have two other pairs. These are high quality shoes with thick leather and leather lined. Not sure why, but these feel about a size smaller in length than my other Birk shoes even though the footbed is exactly the same. Maybe the thick leather at the heel pushes my foot forward a bit?

Utterly wrong fit! I’ve worn Birkenstocks for 30 years. The same size. The same comfort. These shoes are, quite possibly, the most uncomfortable dress shoes I’ve ever worn. I had read other reviews that said the size was a bit small, other reviews said that they would break in. After wearing the shoes to work for a month, they have never broken in. The length is too short, and the arch strikes right on my nerve. Unfortunately, it is beyond the return date, and I am stuck with uncomfortable, expensive, poorly fitting shoes

I bought these because of the wide toe box and because of a previous pair I lovingly owned about 5 years ago. The leather is too stiff on this one, even after a month of break-in. The sole is not that flexible. Not nearly as comfortable as my previous pair. Not worth the $$$ paid for it.

I was looking for casual work / around town shoes to wear with jeans or khakis. These are it ! Beautiful almost exactly what I wanted. One drawback . After one day of wearing shoes my back was all messed up. Birkenstock just don't work with all types of feet. Simple solution, I replaced the insoles and now they are perfect!

I bought this shoe 20 years ago and loved them for many years to follow. I decided to throw down and buy them again. This time they were not even close to the same shoe. the upper looked nice, and quire similar to my original pair, but the sole wasnt even close. super thin, concaved due to the fact that the material was so thin. I'm embarrassed for Birkenstock. They should have improve if they were going to change. oh well. on the upshot, the newer GARY is comfortable and the sole has nice integrity. each to their own, just one person's story

The second I put these shoes on I was amazed at the extreme pain that was under the toes. This was not even close to the same "raised toe bar" description that was given for the Bostons I had just bought and partially based my Memphis purchase on. The size was the recommended size as well as the sizing from the diagram on the box they came in. I wanted so badly to have these shoes work for me as I liked the style but I returned them very disappointed.

I have a pair of Birkenstock sandals that I like a lot...I thought this shoe would have a similar fit. It did not.
