Love this bag! It has tons of room and very convenient pockets/compartments. My 13" Macbook easily fits and there is room for a huge textbook, stacks of papers (I'm a professor), and my workout clothes. There is a separate compartment for pens, laptops, etc., and various zippered pouches on the outside of the bag that are roomy and very secure. I really like the two side pouches, one of which is open (I keep my Camelbak water bottle in there) and the other that can be zippered closed. I've worn the bag on my bike (comfy with shoulder strap and stays in place). I like that it is stiff and maintains its shape when I'm getting items out and carrying it (another bag I tried - by Timbuk2 - would collapse in on itself). The bag was a tad bigger than I ideally wanted, but the slight oversized nature isn't sloppy at all, and I've already gotten used to the size. The beige is a nice neutral color, casual while professional and not terribly flashy. It comes with a strap/buckle on the back for clasping on luggage or around your waist, but I took it off because it doesn't serve a daily purpose for me. I'll likely reattach the next time I fly. My one complaint is that the shoulder strap material does not tuck away when the length is adjusted. So when I shorten the strap to have the bag higher on my body (thereby creating a longer "tail" or "end"), the tail just hangs out with nowhere to secure it. I solved this by slipping it into the zippered compartment near the adjustment buckle, but that compartment was clearly not meant for tucking away the "tail" and cannot be zipped all the way closed when used in this way. Silly feature that is hopefully fixed in a future iteration. I tried the Patagonia Halfmass and Minimass, as well as the Timbuk2 Classic Medium bag, and the Osprey Flapjill was the obvious and easy winner.

I really like this bag because it's lightweight and fits me well. The padded strap doesn't slip from my shoulder as I trek across campus. That's a big deal because that has been a problem for me with other bags. The bag has lots of storage and an ample padded compartment for my laptop.
My one complaint is the I nsane heavy duty Velcro that adorns the front of the bag. Not only is the Velcro redundant--there is a nifty snap strap closure already--but there is way too much of it. Each time I open the bag, the Velcro screeches loudly as I separate its hooks and loops. I've thought about removing it, but don't want to damage the otherwise nice looking and functional front.
If I did manage to remove the Velcro, I am confident I could reuse it to suspend a baby grand piano from a balcony.

I carry a duffel with backpack straps for international trips, and I was looking for a side bag to replace the carry on backpack I normally travel with. This courier is the best compromise I could find - and I ordered about $2,000 worth of different side/ messenger bags and totes. Three main features that gave Osprey the edge:
1. External water bottle pocket, which is concealed when not in use.
2. Great structure that doesn't collapse when being packed or when less full of gear
3. Only one front, external clip (most couriers / messengers have two and look like laptop bags).
I only wish it layed a little more flat against my hips when worn as a crossbody (which is essential to avoid it swinging down in front of my face when I bend over). Otherwise, a great bag, and you can't beat a lifetime warranty on the durability.
I'd also recommend:

I got this when an old bag was worn out. I had gone through a few messenger bags that were not comfortable or wore out quickly. So I was a little skeptical at first but now I love it!! I was thinking of getting another one because I like it so much but I am sad to see they are discontinued. I love this size because it is big enough to hold everything I need but small enough to limit me from packing too much. I have had this for a couple years now but you could never tell. Hopefully, a similar style will come out soon. I expect this to last a while but nothing lasts forever.

I have never submitted a review on anything before, but I must break my silence to weigh in on the Osprey Flapjack. I have had mine for seven years and it is one of my favorite possessions. I get complements on it everywhere I go and when I do, I would make a great Osprey commercial as I expound on the virtues of the bag. I have dragged this bag it all over the world, through five years of college, hauling textbooks, in addition to daily general use. I almost never leave home without it, even if I carry a smaller purse as well for running errands. It contains my life. There's room for everything I need on an average day.I love wearing it cross-body. It puts less strain on my neck and shoulders than a backpack. I can keep an eye on it when in a crowded place by pulling it around to the front of my body. I can run through the airport with it easily. It fits under the seat on a plane. Mine is a light color but it seems to shed dirt. Once a year I submerge it in soapy water and scrub it with a brush, rinse and hang to dry and it comes out looking like new. Oh how I wish all products had this level of quality in design, craftsmanship, durability. I give these bags as gifts and they are a huge hit. Thank you Osprey for making such a great product.

I use my FlipJill as my personal portable office. It holds my laptop, phone, wallet, keys, pens, pencils, two water bottles, and anything else even a jacket or extra flip flops. I love how I can organize everything into different pockets, so I can easily find everything swiftly!
In some ways I wish I had bought the FlapJill backpack instead, because I think it would be more comfortable when I'm walking or waiting in lines. I don't like having weight on just one shoulder. However, on a bike, it's great because the weight is distributed better. I think I'm more of a backpack person than a courier person, in retrospect. Nevertheless, this is my favorite bag and I use it daily!

Love it! I wanted a lightweight bag that isn't too bulky yet has room for all the essentials as a carry on for travel (not for clothes, just for personal items, electronics, etc). This bag fits the bill.
It's the high quality you would expect from Osprey with sturdy materials and pretty details and it's extremely functional.
I didn't get this to transport my laptop but I tried it and it fits, which was a nice surprise.
It has plenty of pockets to keep things organized and the shoulder strap is comfy.
I knocked one star off for for comfort only n cause I wish the strap were a little bit longer. It will work ok for me but I would prefer to have the bag positioned lower. If you're taller than 5' 8", you may find it a tad bit short. Probably not an issue for most people.
I ordered the blue and I like it. It's a nice navy blue with brighter blue accents.
One interesting note for those who may be comparing this with a similar Timbuk 2 bag... I initially received a comparable Timbuk 2 bag by mistake (only mistake Zappos has ever made with me and they IMMEDIATELY corrected it). The Timbuk 2 looked incredibly cheap and not durable at all. It also had a funky chemical smell. I didn't like it at all. If you are deciding between the two, I highly recommend that you go with the Osprey!!

I think I have finally found my perfect carry on and business bag! The Osprey FlapJill Courier bag has it all. Lots of compartments, bright interior, feminine proportions, cross-body strap with additional waist band (can be used to attach to luggage handle, or not used at all), sturdy, comfortable, outside pockets for quick access items, inside clip for keys. I think I would have preferred it in charcoal grey as the black shows lint. Pretty near perfect!

This is one of three Osprey bags that I own. I bought it because I needed an every day bag that could organize my sketchbooks, art materials, laptop and snacks all in one. This does all those things beautifully. The inner compartments are roomy for more bulky items, but there is also a padded laptop sleeve. There are one or two other inner pockets that make organizing my projects really easy which I love. I also love the two side pockets. The water bottle pocket especially is designed really well. My only complaint is that because the top flap buckles closed, it makes getting into the bag once handed very very hard. I either have to leave the buckle undone which causes the bag to sag awkwardly, or I have to put the whole bag down and unbuckle it with both hands. I wish the flap closure was a strong magnet or even a button loop instead. That being said, I use this bag whenever I want to work outside the home in a cafe, the library or in the park and I use it often.

This is a well-made, carefully thought out bag, with many useful features. It holds and protects my 13" laptop, iPad, and lots of other assorted items. However (and hence only 4 stars overall), it was not roomy enough to use as my carry-on tote for a long trip to Europe. While it held almost everything important (devices, chargers, makeup, jewelry, noise-cancelling headphones, travel documents, papers, two pairs eyeglasses, basically anything I'd have to kill myself if I lost)...it fell short of being a "bottomless pit." Forget throwing any last minute items in there, it's just not roomy enough. So I guess it's back to my much roomier, tattered L.L. Bean carry-on tote. Or I might try an Osprey backpack next time...I'm amazed at what my husband crams into his.

I just used this courier on an airplane trip that involved layovers in each direction. I found that once I was in my seat on the plane, it was close to impossible to get into the bag. I should have expected that since it had the flap. It was too large to put on the tray table. I wish there had been some type of access through the flap to get at my tablet or other items in the bag.
I also wish there was an exterior pocket that would hold my boarding pass. I ended up carrying that in my hand after going through security. Even a slip-in pocket on the back would have helped with that - and with the tablet.
I found the shoulder strap wasn't enough to keep the bag on my shoulder once it was fully packed. I used it as a cross-over, but that was too heavy on the side of my neck. I wish there were shoulder straps to wear it as a backpack instead.
I love the exterior water bottle pocket. Easy to get at.
However, I do love the bag and will use it on all my travels. On the return, I'd added a small plastic bag to hold the things I wanted access to on the plane. Once on board, I removed that bag and stuffed the FlapJill under the seat. Perfect!

This bag has a lot of positives, but warning - if you're petite, you'll look like you're on your way to catch a flight! I compared the measurements given on the website to those for my current backpack, which is a nice, medium size, and I thought this bag would be similar. Uh, no - this bag is huge. Back it goes. Too bad, because i really like the organizational pockets and the overall look of the thing.
