So let me touch on something the other reviewers don't seem to be acknowledging:
This is not a "hiking boot" -- no ****.
Nowhere in this description is there even a reference to this being a serious hiking boot. If you're someone who shops for your hiking boots on zappos, then you're not a hiker, so take a seat. If you need a serious 5+ mile hiking boot, then you need to buy some reinforced toe Salomon's or something that is designed for hiking. This doesn't even cover your ankle--there is zero ankle support. Why would you have bought this thinking it was going to provide more than general function?
Now that my tirade against the left half of the bell curve people is over, let me say--I LOVE THESE! There are the perfect balance between wearing your (actual) giant, heavy, hiking boot and wearing plain old street shoes. You can walk through puddles/grass/mud and your feet will stay dry and stylish. They're also perfect for day-wear. They definitely have an upscale New England countryside kind of look. If you're looking for a shoe that is versatile, fashionable, and stylish--this is it. If you're looking for a serious boot, then go online and read up about what hiking boots actually are so you can begin shopping for one.

A lot of the reviews say this is not a hiking shoe but I couldn't disagree more. I hiked all over Norway in this shoe - literally up mountains, in the snow, on a bike, and over extremely rocky and uneven terrain. They also got completely drenched when I was caught in a downpour and they dried fully in the sun in a few hours whereas my sister's took all night and were still damp. The shoe is very stable with stiff and sturdy soles when going over rocks, and was extremely comfortable from the first wear - no break in time. I also liked that it was cute enough to wear during the day when walking around the city. My goal with buying this shoe was to get a cute hiking shoe that I would wear again (not just on my trip and then never again). This shoe definitely fit the bill. Love it and would highly recommend.

Although these are cute, they are super uncomfortable and definitely not hiking boots! I almost wondered if my pair were a defect and missing the lining after I made the mistake of hiking in them and got bad ankle blisters! Zappos is awesome though and allowing a return - thankfully! Don't waste your time - trust me!

This is a fashion boot. I have no idea how it ended up in the hiking boots section. Once I tried it on it was very apparent. Very cute but offers little support and runs small.

I would agree with the reviews stating these aren't 'serious' hiking boots, but they are still great hiking boots :) I am not a 'serious' hiker, but enjoy challenging trails occasionally when my husband and I have the time to tackle them. I recently had a hiking trip come up spur of the moment and needed something for a day hike. These were comfortable out-of-box and didn't require any breaking in. I wore them the day before just to make sure there wouldn't be any major fit issues, and wore them all day hiking up and down a local mountain trail (lots of slippery rocks and elevation change) without blisters or foot soreness (if the hard upper becomes uncomfortable, I found it helpful to loosen the laces which helped). With the exception of some scuffing of the upper on the rocks, the boots held up really well. There were 8 river crossings and it was nice to have the waterproof feature since the water was high and some of the stepping stones were slightly underwater.

These are a gorgeous boot. They are extremely lightweight but still have great ankle support. They are very stylish and can easily be worn with skinny jeans which surprised me. These are not a boot that I would wear for a real hike. When I hike I wear a pretty serious Zamberlan boots that weigh a ton. I wanted these Merrell boots for an upcoming trip that would require a lot of walking. Sadly despite all the positives of this boot, they had to be returned. These are not a boot for someone with skinny ankles. Due to the tongue of the boot being on the outside, I could not tighten the boot down enough without the tongue hitting the lace rivets. I am crushed as this seemed like the perfect boot.

Fell in love with this hiking boot as soon as I opened the box! I love that this is a boot I wouldn't mind wearing casually if needed too. Love the nod to Cheryl Strayed with the red laces.
This boot did feel a half size if not a whole size larger than marked. I always like to order a 7 in boots because of thicker socks and I just find a roomier fit in boots more comfortable. I ordered a 6.5 in these, and I still wonder if I could've gotten into a 6. I'm going to keep the 6.5 though because I know my feet swell a bit as we walk and to allow for thicker, hiking socks.

I loved these boots and thought they were a great crossover between a hiking boot, a rain boot, and a cool looking pair of shoes. I wore these exclusively during 10 days in Iceland and did a lot of hiking and walking in the rain, mud, and spongey ground. Because they were waterproof and had a high ankle, I felt protected and supported. I have wider feet, and these were a bit wide on me, so I'd suggest wearing thick hiking wool socks.
These certainly aren't hardcore hiking boots, so I wouldn't wear them on hikes longer than 6 miles, or with lots of elevation gain, since it's hard to tie the laces very tightly. But for hikes under 6 miles, or intermittent walking, I'd definitely recommend.

This was a beautiful, love-at-first-sight boot, but its sizing is VERY small. I've probably owned a half-dozen pair of Merrell shoes and boots in recent years, always in size 10 or 10.5. These boots fit MUCH smaller and narrower than any other pair of Merrells I've owned. Even a size 11 would have been much too small. I'm envious of those of you who found a pair that fit. I sent 'em back with a broken heart.

Love these boots. I didn't buy them for hiking, I bought them because they are cute and look great with just about anything. Comfortable, didn't have to break them in. I have received lots of compliments.

Comfortable, stylish hiking-style boot. Wish I would've gone up a half size to accomodate thick socks in cold weather.

I love my new boots! I'm surprised that other reviewers find the boot uncomfortable.. the insole is on the firmer side, but in no ways uncomfortable. I float between a size 9.5 & 10 depending on brand. I went with a 9.5 and I'm pleased, no toe pinching either! The shoes are really cute and practical being that they are waterproof. This is a quality product that I will get years of use from. Happy customer!

I bought the bungee cord color I love them I bought them in an 8.5 and I normally wear a 9½ so I do not agree with the reviews saying they run small. I bought them to be slightly more of a fashionable boot/shoe to wear in the icy weather we get here in the midwest in days that do not require a full snow boot rather than to go hiking but I feel I would probably wear them while hiking the easy trails here or in the Seattle area for days with my mother that can go anywhere from walks around town to hikes out to the ocean. Comfort wise they were great after breaking them in for about two hours. I would buy them again.

These are not hiking boots whatsoever, but they pair wonderfully with leggings and a sweater. These are my everyday shoes in the fall and early winter months. I absolutely love these. Once again, they are not hiking boots. They are super comfortable and pretty versatile for exploring but not so much for intense trekking.

These are great looking shoes, but the sizing was not right for me. I ordered my typical size, as well as half a size up and half a size down. My typical size (9½) was the best length wise, but very, very narrow. The 10 was just too big to keep. Too bad, I really love them in person! They would be perfect for light hikes in the rainy pacific northwest.

I think these are really cute but I am afraid to wear them in the rain! They are not quite as comfortable as my usual Merrells, but still comfy enough and my foot feels supported.

These boots are pretty cute, but they didn't fit me well. I have a narrow foot and my ankle moved around too much. The way they are made makes it difficult to tighten them much. I think someone with a normal width foot would like them.

Now that I own these boots, I better understand the disparity in the reviews for them. They are true to size, a bit narrow, have a thin insole (similar to the cheapest insole one might purchase at the pharmacy), and have negligible arch support. The toe is boxy, though, which makes the shoe feel larger than it is; however, the length of the shoe is true to size. I typically wear an 8.5 or 9. One reviewer said to buy the same size as one does for athletic shoes, which is 8.5 for me and was perfect. The leather is so stiff that one cannot really adjust the fit of the shoe by tightening the laces, which results in uncomfortable rubbing where the tongue and heel make contact with my foot. Moreover, the black color stained my socks where the tongue rubbed them. The insole is pretty comfortable, but not supportive in the least. I considered replacing the insole with something more plush, but then I wouldn't be able to fit my foot in the shoe. I'm able to wear these with a light-to-medium weight sock, but would struggle to fit my foot in them with a heavy weight wool sock (and I have skinny feet). I purchased these to have a reasonably comfortable, stylish, and waterproof shoe to wear to the city to see the Rockefeller Christmas tree and the department store window displays, which is a pretty decent walk. My feet didn't ache at all whilst walking; however, I had blisters on both heels and a little bruise where the tongue of one boot rubbed my ankle. I will say they have decent tread, and felt very stable walking on wet sidewalks and streets. I think these are cute boots, and their sleek aspect looks great with leggings. In the future, though, I will wear these primarily to do short errands and the like.

These are pretty utilitarian looking, obviously, but the black color just doesn't have enough of a style to make me want to wear it wandering around the city and I agree with the other reviewers that these are not hearty enough to be hiking appropriate.

Great looking boot - but the 11 is just not the same size as other women's 11 that I usually buy. I hope Merrell will make more in size 12 so I can buy some of their great designs.

Purchased these boot less than five months ago and they have lost the stitching on the outside of each boot causing a large hole in each boot! The soles still have tread on them but the boots are worthless with holes in them! Not worth the money!! Did not hold up to everyday walking at all! Worst pair of boots I have purchased…ever!! Do not bother spending money on these boots they will fall apart in a small amount of time!
