Extremely impressed with the grip, support and cushion on this trail shoe. I can fly down hills with very little impact and a solid confident grip. Ascending hills is just as much of a pleasure.
Perfect for trail running races (short 5Km and Ultra races 50+Km) Also the impact and wear on the knees is significantly reduced on long hilly training runs on the hills.
I love them for roads in snowy conditions (here in Canada) perfect for winter training. However on dry roads they feel clunky and are loud on impact.

I've been running long miles on trails and snow. It has great traction and is comfortable. Gave me a small blister in my arch, but otherwise problems.

Ran 16 trail miles in these shoes the day I received them. They felt great! Very light. Excellent traction. I will be purchasing more.

It's been a while since I've posted a shoe review, but this one rates!
I'm 30 days off from my first 50k Ultra and needed to pull the trigger on a trail shoe... After tons of feedback from the Hoka Stava group and doing my own homework I finally opted for the legendary Speedgoat. Cosmetically this shoe is uber cool and looks like it should go fast and handle well! As usual, I wore the shoe for a couple days prior to running it. I have exceptionally long flat feet and so I trimmed just a bit off the insole at my missing arch and WA-LA, they are perfectly comfortable! The toe box actually offers a little more room than the Stinson Trail and that was a pleasant surprise as well. The shoe offers perfect balance and the cushion/rebound we have all come to expect from Hoka.
I my run day I woke to an extremely foggy and damp morning. I knew this would be an excellent test day for the Speedgoat and would be able to push it to its limits. I ran gravel, high grass and a great deal of mud. The shoe kept my feet high and dry even through shallow puddles and deep mud. I HUGE plus was how well the shoe stays clean and from of mud on the side and especially the sole. The traction is perfect as well. Any other shoe I have run over the years tends to slip a bit on fallen leaves but this shoe just hooks and goes.
The last and most notable benefit is how well this shoe moves at the rocker. It's light and FAST! I ran almost a minute faster per mile at the same effort and that was what sealed the deal for me... Best Trail Shoe EVER.

Have been a dedicated trail/mountain racer for a good number of years. Have been fairly satisfied with Salomon products, notably Speedcrosses. Tried Challengers this season, and they proved to be a good shoe as well. Recently started using Speedgoats. For me, they are clearly a much better choice. They are light, with reasonable cushion, a good arch and provide a great touch. Their traction on mixed terrain, including wet steeps is absolutely SUPER !! I find the toe box to be okay, and have had neither blistering or toe smash from them. I do have pretty skinny feet though, which may help me in this area. I have had no bruising over rocky 5-8 mile training runs. Having had them for only a month,I have not had the opportunity to race them or take them for a long run. In my opinion they are a great general trail shoe, but especially suited to technical, steep, single track kind off stuff.

Holy smokes, These trail shoe are ( well perfect). I have owned a few pairs of the Hoka Clifftons for road running and fund them admirable for longer and even speed work runs. The Speedgoat absolutely make trail running a much more pleasurable experience than trial running already is. Downhills with speed is smooth. Traction is unbelievable for ascending and descending steep slippery clay/sandy regions of Kamloops British Columbia Canada. I have used the Saucony Peregrine 4 which I like but do not even compare to the stability, comfort and efficiency in stride to the Speedgoat. You can hear the grip traction in each stride in the Hoka Speedgoat. The wear is fantastic with the Vibrum sole compared to the Cliffton. Love them Love them yes I do.

Optimal combination of comfort, cushion and performance on the trail or any surface. Great traction in mud, wet rocks and roots. Very comfortable and forgiving upper material. You may want to go up a size if you have trouble with width. I have been a Hoka user since 2012 and the Speedgoat has become my favorite shoe from Hoka. I'm a solid size 11.5 and these fit right on. Much more stable than I though they would be. I am coming from several years of minimalist running and needed something for an upcoming ultra. Wore them at a 10K trail race and pushed hard--they seemed to perform well all around. Not sure if my rating of "arch support" is accurate or not. I have normal arches, but have been running in minimalist shoes so I don't particularly feel the need for extra arch support.

Trail running and I will also be wearing them at the Grindstone 100 this year. While the toe box feels tight you just need to give the shoe some time. Your foot will get use to the fit and you will love them.

I started doing Spartan Races when i turned 38 and i just turned 40 and did 6 races this year and I have been wanting you guys to build this shoe for the Beast spartan races. My knees and body take a beating on these courses in the mountains and rivers terrains. If you could add under the toe area some drain holes to the sides so the water could exit little faster would be great. Reebok make a pair of shoes just for spartan racing great shoe for the smaller races because they are so uncomfortable but have lots of features i do like. But Great Job Hoka keep up the good work and showing you care about the runners and the adventures not just the money. MR Hill

This is a very nice shoe. I own 3 pair of Rapa Nuis, 1 pair of Clifton's, Stinson's, and Huaka's. The fit is similar to the Rapa Nui, but more comfortable. The cushion is softer, the traction better, the heel counter locks my foot in with no achilles aggravation. My favorite improvement is the upper taco wrap construction that eliminates bunching of the upper material that I have experienced with Rapa Nuis and Huakas. The Speedgoat is my new 100 miler go-to shoe.

Narrow toe box an issue first couple of runs but the flexible upper seems to be giving over time. Superb built quality and padding in just the right spots. I thought the Speedgoats's precise fit and rugged tread still translated to great ground feel despite the stack height. But if you're looking for the traditional hoka feel of an ultra plush ride with a wide base, look at the Stinson or Mafate.

So I'd tried Hokas in the past and wasn't a big fan. I was sent these shoes from a gear review website (disclaimer), and immediately was hooked. They are much easier to run in than other models, they tear up the trails, and enable me to really run hard downhill. I like that they are breathable and light, although the upper does seem like it may be the first thing to go on the shoe. The tread is made to be used off-road and I've enjoyed the traction they provide on technical trails.
I found that they run true to size, and are consistent with other running brands. I could go on about the shoe, and how much I like it, but I believe that trying it on will speak volumes to you. I'd previously ran in low drop shoes (4mm) with little cushion, but am a Hoka believer because of this shoe. I hope to wear it during my first trail 50K coming up this fall.
