This is my second pair of Hokas that I have owned and so far, I remain a fan. With the Tor, I ordered the wrong size originally and my second pair is a whole size smaller (went from a 9 to 8) since I am a woman. I recently underwent a total hip replacement and now have a significant limp. As a result, cushioning is highly valued and Hoka succeeds in alleviating a lot of discomfort when walking and performing daily exercise. Naturally, I also love the looks of this shoe! Be prepared for compliments and stares when wearing them. I have received quite a few! As I continue to recover, I look forward to seeing how they respond to more activity and the falling temperatures. I am sure that I will continue to be pleased!

I have been wearing Hoka One One shoes now for a few years. As I have gotten older, and knees progressively worse, I have found that I do better with more cushioning. I have tried a few different brands, but always come back to my Hoka's. I was excited to see they now make boots, as I live in an area with snow and ice in the winter. However, no one seems to make boots with a large amount of cushioning in them until now. I got my pair in this week and have been wearing them every day now. First of all, there is absolutely no break in required. They feel great the minute you put them on. In fact, if it weren't for the higher tops of the boots, you would swear you had on your Hoka shoes. They support my ankles really well, and are very stable when on uneven terrain. I'm looking forward to trying these out this winter. I highly recommend them for people looking for cushioning and waterproof qualities. I will definitely be buying more pairs as these wear out.
I'd also recommend:

These shoes were recommended by my Doctor because they have a lot of cushioning that I need due to an ankle issue.

I am outside landscaping or playing every day. I have been trying to find a boot that is comfortable, provides support, and that eliminates the foot pain that I encounter by the middle to end of every day. This boot is the winner so far, and I have tried many. If the toe box was slightly wider, and if these prove to be durable, then I would say they are close to perfect.

I used these on an 11-day thruhike of the JMT in September. I usually do that hike wearing low-cut mesh trailrunners, but I saw these Hokas in Roadrunner and thought they looked interesting, so I took the risk. They were perfect. I had no foot pain, ankle pain, shin pain, or blisters, and usually I get plenty of those. I was able to do 20+ mile days and not feel worn out. Usually I'm a 15-miler. I anticipated that the waterporofing would be a negative in the Sierra, but in fact I was glad of it when it rained all day. I didn't have any problems with sweating. I liked that the cuffs are very soft and flexible - this acted like a gaiter almost, and kept all the dirt and grit out. Ankle support is not an important issue for me, I don't feel it's worth getting heel blisters for. I feel like these boots have really improved my enjoyment of hiking long distances. The only negative I noticed was that the inserts had a slightly harsh upper edge, and this started to irritate in a few spots as the miles piled up. I was able to trim off the offending areas and it was fine after that. Highly recommend these boots.

Let me start by saying that I am just a normal guy that loves the outdoors. I have no affiliation with Hoka One One but I do love their shoes and with good reason. I am a pretty big guy, 6' 220lbs. I put 20 miles on these boots last weekend and my feet felt amazing. I have a hard time finding shoes that don't hurt my feet when I walk, hike or run. This is my third pair of Hokas and I love them. I have seen people have questions about their durability but I can tell you that these are very solid well made boots. I have a pair of Hokas that are 3 years old and have taken a beating and they still look and feel amazing. These boots are tough as nails, like walking on pillows and still provide excellent stability. You will love them. They are true to size and have a nice big toe box. If you need a narrow toe box, they will not be for you. Thank you Zappos for another amazing customer service experience!

Used them on a 5 day, 93 mile hike on the Wonderland Trail in Washington and then followed that with a 10 day hike on the Haute Route from Chamonix, FR to Zermatt, CH. They exceeded my expectations. No foot pain, no blisters, no complaints. Socks never got wet on stream crossings. There is velcro-like ankle coller that does a great job impeding fine debris from entering the boot, such that gaiters are never required. Less weight than most similar boots. Enough cushion to not feel sharp scree. Dry fast and don't ever feel damp on multi-day use. Durable enough for expedition hikes with 25 pound pack. They work fine in the Alps. Heavier duty traditional leather boots are not needed.
Last year I used Hoka Stinsons on the Tour du Mont Blanc with no problems, but would recommend Dirty Girls gaiters to keep more of the debris out of your shoe.
To have extremely happy feet while hiking, my best other recommendations as a podiatrist are: 2 Toms Sport Shield/Blister Shield for blister prevention, Injinji toe sock liners (thin) under regular socks, and a custom footbed/orthotic if packing any weight. Hope this helps.

I walk at least 6 miles every day and have feet that require Ultram to get through it. I wore these for the first time this morning and was pleased with the outcome - at least so far. These shoes have a harder landing than the HOKA running shoes, which is good for concrete and hiking. They are expensive, but for people that walk every day long distances money issues must be pushed aside for comfort. Yesterday afternoon my feet hurt so much that I thought I'd have to forego my morning walk for the first time in 10 years. This morning, wearing my new HOKA boots I did 4 miles with just a modicum of pain. So far so good. I wear birkenstock insoles and put in an old cut 3/4 insole (cut out the heal part) and place that in as well. I have a declension of the third metatarsal and a extruding navicular bone in my arch and thus need all the cushioning I can obtain. Hopefully, these boots will hold up.

Knowing the extreme nature of the event itself I didn't know if the shoe would hold up to the stress. I was wrong. The GORUCK Challenge consisted of 12 hours of continual subjection to Cadre harassment (physical conditioning training) and carrying heavy objects over long distances. The shoes were comfortable right from the box. I got them the DAY of the event. Not the smartest thing to do however my feet would have been 10x worst without the soft soles under my feet. The weight of cement parking blocks were crushing at times however the traction in wet conditions and in sand was terrific and kept the load in check. I will be wearing them on a GORUCK Heavy 24 hour event soon and will report back. Highly recommend. Lace easy with gloves on, super soft, flexible, mesh with the terrain.

I have been battling plantar fasciitis for about 6 months and have bought numerous running shoes and boots. I ordered a pair of Hoka's to try out before I went to Colorado on my annual archery elk hunt and hiking adventure. All I can say is wow, had no pain at all and hiked and hunted for approx. 85 miles in 9 days. I was very impressed with the comfort, traction, water proofing and durability. The boots performed on a much higher level than I thought they would from their appearance.
I'm ordering another pair for casual use. Don't hesitate to purchase these shoes (little pricey) but worth every penny!

When I heard Hoka was venturing into hiking boots, I was very excited. I've been wearing the Stinson trail running shoes for over a year now, as they are the only shoes I had found that gave me a great deal of relief from my heel pain/plantar fascitis. And I looked for and tried everything, but found nothing to alleviate the pain. And because I work as a professional hiking guide, I don't get the option of being off my feet for very long. So when I saw the trail runners, I figured it was worth a shot and they are now my everyday/all day shoe. And I even started wearing them for long day hikes as well. They did surprisingly well, but I really needed the support of a boot. When I saw these Tor Ultra's, I was first put off by the sticker shock, so as badly as I wanted to purchase, I waited. Then Hoka offered a stunning discount and I took the plunge, thanks to the free shipping/free returns policy, I didn't hesitate and hoped ordering the same size that I wear in the Stinson ATR would fit. And it did, beautifully. these boots feel a lot like the ATR, just with the added ankle support, which fits more like a neoprene ankle brace and not a clunky boot. Most "hiking" boots have the high ankle upper, but they seldom give you the glove like fit that my ankles crave when giving a six hour tour. They are also surprisingly lightweight, much more so than a traditional boot. My biggest concern was the width, as I normally wear a wide-width shoe, but like the ATR's, these fit snug, but not tight. I did wear them around for a couple of days before a big hike, just to get the feel and break them in/stretch them out a bit. On the first trail test, they performed better than expected, my feet felt great, not anywhere close to the pain afterward that I would have had in my old boots. The traction was great over loose rocks, steep downhill sandy slopes, and an uphill rock scramble. As for durability of the sole, only time will tell, but Vibram has never produced a less than desirable result before. I am extremely happy that Hoka has stepped in to the hiking footwear world, I'll be a customer as long as they keep making a great product.

After a difficult ACL reconstruction, never thought I'd be able to hike vertically. These boots provide the support and extra cushion to put me back in the game. Hiked with poles before and after ACL reconstruction. Good traction on rock scrambling. Durable, cushioned sole for rocky terrain and descent. Need a little extra time to get used to the bulk on the sole, but so worthwhile. Lifechanging post surgery!
Sizing - fit true to size; alot of room in the toe box. I used a thin liner and a thicker wool hiking sock.

I was always amazed at how comfortable Hokas were. I have three other pair. This Tor however, takes that to a new level. The design that includes a mid-top just gives so much support and hugs your ankles without constricting. I mainly walk and these have proved so, so comfortable.

I have been having a lot of trouble finding the right boots - my research involves hiking up to 20 miles on boulder fields and rocks, down dry creek beds and generally off trail in the desert. Every boot I have tried in the past year hurt my feet after a few hours, making for miserable travel. I was aiming on taking my Hoku One One running shoes, but I really needed the ankle support for rolling on the rocks. As soon as I saw the M TOR ULTRA HI WP on the website I ordered a pair. Now at the end of a trek, everything is sore except my feet. These boots have great support, great traction...eevrything you would expect from Hoku One One - but the best part is that they cushion even the gnarliest jagged rocks. I can jump from rock to rock in full confidence, and even after 20 miles - no problem. The laces make for full top to bottom adjustments so you can have full control over the fit. I have never been more pleased with a pair of hiking boots.

Still trying to figure out Hoka's sizes the mafates I bought were 13's but I have to wear a very thin sock. The latest ones I bought are 14's and they feel much better with any sock but maybe a half size too big. Regardless I love your shoes!!!!!

Just came back yesterday from a 4 day backpack. Boots performed great through some tough terrain including rock scrambling and "shale surfing". Provided enough support for carrying 45 pound pack. VERY happy with these, highly recommended for day hikes to backpacking.

This boot is the boot of the year. No more back or knee problems. But the down side is I am using a 14 when I need a 15. Please start making at least one size bigger. This boot would be great for the heavier hiker as I said I have had zero back and knee issues while using them on the three hikes I have made and these were 14, 12 and 8 mile hikes in tough areas. Go Hoka!!

I'm 6'3" 220 and am 45 years old. I'm in the process of training for Mt. Whitney in August. I've tried most of the boots out there and all have their issues. Keen, Asolo, Vasque, Lowa, Solomon, all have issues with my feet. Blisters, soreness, knees hurt, etc. I have the Hoka 11 Stinson trail runners and they are great. I saw these boots and without even being able to touch them or see them in person I ordered them in a size 13. I've already put about 30 miles on them but none of this under the load of a 30-50lb pack. Not sure if I'll get to this until I go for my summit. So far, they have been great. My feet feel good after a good hike. I'll be doing Mt. Wilson and then Mt. Baldy over the next two weekends and will put them through their paces. So far, these may be the best boots I've owned for my style of hiking. The only real bad thing I'll say is that they don't have a good edge on them for climbing rocks where you need to get that edge into the granite crags. For a trail or even a little rock scrambling, they are great. Just realize the squishy nature of the sole.
