I usually wear a size 7 show in most styles. Sneakers a half size smaller. I ordered these boots in a 7.5 thinking I may need the extra room for thick winter socks. They slipped on my heel and I exchanged them for a 7. Even the 7 felt a half size large for me with my winter smartwool socks. However, they no longer slipped on the heel so I kept them. They are a nice lightweight boot and are comfortable right out of the box. No need for a break in period. Salomon is a boot that is known for quality and durability. You won’t be disappointed in your choice of this boot. I work as a Hospice Nurse and needed these as I travel to patient homes and these are easy on and off without the restrictions while driving of limited ankle flextime and extension efforts usually afforded by a boot higher than the ankle. They have kept me dry and warm in -25 degree weather with 12+ inches of snow mixed with icy surfaces.

To echo other reviewers' comments these are very comfy and cozy right out of the box. My feet immediately felt happily "cocooned" in them. They're a very sturdy shoe, a "quasi-hiking" boot with serious sole/traction yet not overly bulky or heavy, and with some flexibility. It's a quality shoe and, I think, an excellent value. It has a nicely padded collar, although with thin ankles I may have to resort to a thicker sock like another reviewer mentioned, although in time the cushy padding will likely mold to my foot/ankle. I do like that the shoe is a bit higher than a regular athletic shoe (yet not over-the-ankle boot height) for added warmth. This hybrid shoe/boot seems designed/intended for more urban hiking on city sidewalks in inclement weather than for trail hiking (although I wouldn't hesitate to try them out for that). The simple, streamlined design with beautiful minimal detailing and the pop of light blue accent with the black give it the urban attitude I've been looking for. This just may have hit the sweet spot for fashion-meets utility: a shoe for serious, long walks (3 - 7 miles-ish) on dry or uneven snow covered sidewalks--and bonus! -- while not looking like a backcountry hiker (not that there's anything wrong with that...I'm that too when I'm in the mountains :-)

This shoe was super comfy right out of the box. However, I ended up returning because I realized afterwards that it wasn't a hiking shoe. Thanks to zappos for their awesome return policy, I was able to go with a different salomon boot

Really glad I bought these! I have wide-ish flat feet and really appreciate the room in the toe box. I could actually spread and wiggle my toes! Even with mid-weight socks on. I was happy to see how lightweight they are... they don’t feel clunky at all. I’m a size 10 and often feel like my feet look huge with boots on but not with these! The soles feel like they have a good grip - almost sticky. I bought these to wear on a ski trip and I’m pretty confident they’ll work out well in the snow.

8.5/10 This is a great boot for everyday winter living. As someone who's feet get cold on a regular basis, I was looking for a lightly insulated boot that would keep my toes warm in my colder office environment. I was also hoping for a supportive boot as described by the podiatrists. This boot does not have a super flexible sole or twist from side to side. The resulting support is fantastic, and I haven't had sharp plantar fasciitus pains in my heels since I started wearing them. They fit my orthotics just fine. The insoles are tacked in place by a few spots of glue, but were easy to remove. My downsides are few: I do need to wear a thicker sock, a mid-weight as opposed to a lightweight wool sock. The back of the heel cuff did hit my ankles, beginning to cause a small hotspot. With a little bit of break-in time and moleskin, that effect is almost gone now. I have faith that it will go away completely with more wear. They do not feel clunky or heavy like other winter boots. I would compare them most to a daily hiking-type boot.

As other reviewers said, the shoe fits too tightly around my ankles.

I usually wear a 9.5 in casual shoes/boots. I ordered this in a 9.5 and it fit fine in length. I have a narrow foot and even with my custom orthotic, this felt wider than a medium width. The shoe felt very cushiony under foot, and comfortable to walk in. The height fit at an odd point on my ankle, but had a lot of cushioning and did not hurt. My main reason for returning it was the width.

This is the same model I've had for a few years, and finally worn down enough to "justify" :-) the new version in a color I like better (black with burgundy trim--very rich combo). I wasn't disappointed; Salomon hasn't changed a thing, except color options, as far as I can tell. I wear a 71/2 in athletic/walking shoes but in Solomans I take a 7 and it's perfect. They're dreamy comfortable, but like some have said, may take a little wearing in around the heel/collar. They do soften up over time. I have fussy feet (need roomy toe box) so saying they're comfortable is saying a lot. No heel slippage. They're well made and substantial yet not a huge stiff boot, which is a plus for me/my purposes. They have enough insulation to provide warmth, which is what I need for Colorado winters. I do wear them for long urban walks/hikes in Denver when the sidewalks and pavement are icy/slippery, and they have a good tread (but nothing can protect against icy surfaces so don't expect that). They could actually be OK rougher hiking although I prefer more substantial boot with a stiffer sole (shank?) for rocky terrain. They're not too heavy bulky for winter walks, but that said, as soon as the pavement/sidewalks are dry enough and it's above 35 deg. I revert to my lighter sneakers because they do "walk" a little better.

I was looking for a mid height boot with thick and stiff soles for walking on the snowy and icy streets of my Chicago suburb after a foot and ankle injury. Unfortunately the soles were too flexible for me until I recover more fully. I am so disappointed because these boots would have been perfect. I hope I am better next winter. If so I plan on reordering them.

This shoe is true to size and comfortable, however, the style is not quite what I want. It seemed more like a shoe & I wanted more of an ankle boot for snow. Of course not deep snow. Otherwise, if you are looking for comfort it is perfect. I'm sending them back & will continue my search. Also, there was plenty of room for an orthotic which I need in most shoes I wear due to high arches & a tendency to get plantar fasciitis.

Several reviews state that these shoes fit perfectly right out of the box, and they are right! I ordered my usual size 6 1/2 and wore a mid-weight sock. They are super comfortable to walk in and keep my feet warm and dry on cold days (currently in the mid-30's). I wish they came in more colors.

These cold weather shoes fit very nicely and are cute. However, I had to make a choice since I ordered two different styles to make sure I received a pair that would fit and look good. These do, but I chose the Keen's because of the higher ankle support and the soft wool upper. If you like this look, they are really nice.

I am a true 8.5, very high arches, very high instep, and often have tarsal tunnel discomfort. I think I have tried every single boot company out there without much luck in the comfort department, but on cold winter days, the dogs still need to be walked so I’ve got to wear something sturdy and insulated. These are a DREAM!!!! I just returned to Zappos to order a second pair to keep on the closet for when these wear out. I took the footbed liner out (really quite worthless, just a flat piece of poly felt) and use my orthotics, which fit in perfectly and give me the arch support I need. I can’t speak to whether or not they are supportive on their own (I would think not). I can walk in them all day, they are *that* comfortable. My feet stay toasty, without getting excessively sweaty, in 5-45 degrees (I wouldn’t wear them above those temps). They don’t have Saloman’s truly annoying “speed laces”, thankfully (to my taste). The top back of the boot (the cuff) did hit my left Achilles tendon the first couple of time I wore them, but it’s a soft knit fabric and broke in quickly (that Achilles is more sensitive; I didn’t notice it at all on my right foot). The outsole thread is great for rocky or rough terrain. Like all boots that aren’t gum, you will slip on ice. Add a pair of yak tracks on icey days and you will be golden. I love the black color with the minimal robin’s egg blue accents. They feel a tad more stylish than run of the mill brown. I can’t speak to the durability of the soft upper, as I’ve only worn them on dry days so far (will be ever get another snowfall?!?), but if need be, I’ll coat them in a waterproof spray. If you have feet like mine and you need a warm, comfortable pair of winter shoes, you might just love them as much as I do!

These shoes were comfortable straight out of the box and make me feel like taking a long walk. Wide toe box which works for me. Hugs just the right amount. Super light weight. I'm a fan!

I love Soloman and I love Zappos! I have ordered several pair of boots and shipped them back due to lack of comfort/support in search of warm supportive boots for an upcoming winter trip to NYC! I made a mistake last time of not having supportive footware and I was miserable and cold and my back and hips hurt! I wanted to love Sorel boots because they are cute but they just don't have the support. I have a pair of Soloman Speedcross IV shoes and they have carried me through 7-9 mile days in Boston with no back, hip or foot pain. I ordered these boots in a 9M and was thinking of keeping them because they feel just like a comfortable cocoon when you first put them on, but they seemed a little big. I'm so glad I ordered the 8.5 due to Zappos easy ordering and return system. The 8.5 is perfect! I have found my perfect pair of warm, supportive comfort boots that I'll be able to walk many miles in NYC next month! Thank you Zappos!

I love Salomon boots! I have a bigger pair from years ago that I recently dug out and really appreciate the sticky sole on icy sidewalks. Those boots made me try these - which are the same thing but lower cut. They do come up pretty high on the back ankle - I need thick socks to counteract that (got rubbed raw once or twice with gold toe work socks on - this is firm around the collar boot). I have a high arch and med-wide feet - these fit perfectly.

Salomon shoes in general provide a comfortable fit. However, with these boots, the back of the boot carves into the Achilles tendon and unlikely to give in at any time. Viewing the structure, the sole of the shoe extends back beyond the top of the boot which seems to cause this issue. The top of the boot angles in toward the tendons and is hurtful, and also around the ankle. I am 5'6" at 105 lbs and believe it has nothing to do with my structure. I was disappointed I had to return the order as Zappos is always generous about returns.

I'm bummed to return these Salomon booties.The boot, for me, is very comfortable except for around one of my ankles. I was getting ankle rub and wished the boot was cut a bit lower around the ankle bone or a bit higher. The boot has great support and a modern look because of the fabric; very sleek for a winter boot and they are light! My husband has a pair of Salomon boots and says his are very warm so I really wish these would have worked out.

Incredible boots. Super light, super comfy right out of the box. Very warm without being heavy or too hot. Love them.

A winner, after sending back a dozen other boots. As others have stated this boot fits well right out of the box, excellent alignment with my foot structure and arch support. I like the style. Materials for shoes have definitely gone down in quality, often feeling like enriched cardboard. The material of this shoe is tolerable, although not the usual quality. I am wearing the boot for style and moderate exercise, it will work for me.

Love love love. Wore all winter walking dogs. Never ever got cold toes.
