This is a great all-around jacket, and I enjoyed how warm it kept me on my autumn trip to Iceland. It breaks the wind very well, but it isn't totally waterproof. I'd consider it water-resistant at best. It's very soft and light, but I thought it was a bit too poofy.

I stalked this jacket for a couple of weeks because I live in the south and we don't often get the frigid air that justifies an expensive cold weather jacket... however, I caved. I'm so glad I did! On the few days we've had below freezing temps and frigid winds blowing, this jacket has kept me warm, blocked the wind, and proved it is worth having! We did have one day of snow and I was very happy with how the waterproofing continued to keep me warm and dry.

This jacket is designed for rain and wind and if you keep that in mind you will not be disappointed. This is not a jacket for cold frigid weather. I had great hopes for this jacket and hoped it would keep me warm in Iceland in the winter, but that was not the case. This rain/windbreaker is made for temperatures above 50 degrees Fahrenheit. I feel that this jacket is way over priced and should sell in the $150 range. I am disappointed with the design of this North Face Jacket. The bells and whistles are not there. You need more ways to keep the wind out. I ordered an XL and it was true to size with several layers underneath.

I absolutely LOVE this jacket. I ordered this jacket online, and I have to admit that I was a little worried to find out how light the jacket was. I wanted something warm to wear to NY on our vacation (but also liked that I can separate the jackets and have 3 jackets in one). There happened to be a nasty Nor'easter that hit while we were there. It started out pouring rain, and then the temperature dropped and it changed to snow. The jacket was waterproof and very warm. I was never cold while wearing the jacket. It was also extremely windy while we were in NY and the jacket was windproof. I couldn't be happier with this jacket.

Hi, bought this recently and was looking forward to using this beautiful piece of clothing. Wore today for a walk, it is drizzling lightly, by the time I got back home not only my outer jacket but inner thermoball and my sweater all were wet;() don't know what to do??? Love it but want it waterproof.....

This was a last-minute purchase for a ski trip. I wanted something that I could wear again outside of skiing as I do not ski often enough to justify such a pricey investment. I was 100% satisfied with my purchase! The temperature was in the 20s but felt like the teens. To go skiing, I wore a long-sleeve thermal and sweatshirt and this jacket and I felt perfect. I didn't overheat and I wasn't cold! Also, there was active wet snowfall and kept perfectly dry. I also love the fact that this jacket isn't bulky like regular ski jackets but still room to layer underneath. I typically wear a small in ALL my clothes but I purchased the XS and it honestly probably fit better than a small would have. I'm very happy with this purchase.

A great, lightweight, not too bulky coat for around town. I can't comment on warmth because I was looking for something more substantial for skiing. The hood is ridiculously small, and bunched up behind my neck, rather than laying flat or out of the way. If it was available in a version without a hood, I would replace my down sweater jacket with this. Ran true to size- 5'4", 140#, medium was comfortable, but large had room for layers.

Have always wanted one of these and finally took the leap on purchasing one for this winter. I'm so very glad I chose this coat, not only is it stylish, but it prevents the freezing wind to cut through. I'm hoping to purchase more products in the further. Highly recommended!! Great Job with this one!!!

I was a bit skeptical at first about this coat as it didn't have a thick inner jacket. Man, when the temps got to -20 this week, I was warm still! Well worth every penny! It is a size too big and that doesn't affect how warm it is. I'd even say that 32 above this coat dose the job. I'll recommend this to anyone who gets the privilege of negative temps.

I love this layering masterpiece. I was tired of the crinkly waterproof jackets that make a lot of noise - you know what I'm taking about. Purchased this because I needed a white coat for football games (I'm an avid college football fan with season tickets and we do themes). When I took it out of the box, I thought North Face sent me the wrong coat - thinking it was way too soft to be waterproof. How wrong I was! I tailgated in this coat for 6 hours in the pouring rain and every inch covered by this coat was DRY! It rained for 70% of the game and I remained dry and comfortable. Don't hesitate to buy this coat!

My experience is that I am finding it to be very warm and absolutely wind and waterproof. The underneath jacket layer is very thin, warm and is fitted whereas the outer shell is a bit less fitted, which is perfect In my opinion. Easy in and out conversion in seconds. Previously ordered and returned Varius Guide jacket for this as I found found my size, Med, to be too fitted for me at 5' 7" 130 pounds in the Varius while the Med. in this Thermoball Triclimate to be an excellent fit with a little more room to move in the shell while the underlying jacket is still fitted for warmth as both the 3 in 1 system and alone as a separate. My only issue, and it is minor, is that the front zipper puckers midway up the outer shell both standing and sitting.

I wore this item out on the water while fly fishing in a float tube. It not only kept me warm, but also kept me dry during a rainstorm. I wasn't sure how it would hold up in the rain, but trusted the "waterproof" label. It worked great and kept me out on the water doing what I love. I have also worn in to work and on the playground during cold days(teacher). I don't always wear both layers, but no matter the combo I always receive compliments.

Two years ago I bought a NorthFace jacket for my trip to Iceland in January. It held up perfectly for all of the wintry, wet and snowy adventures - I was warm and dry the entire time. So, when I lost my jacket last year, I knew I'd have to invest in another NorthFace. I tried on a couple of my favorite designs, and decided on this one because of the fit. It's not nearly as restrictive as some of the other styles in the same size. Even though I wasn't super stoked about the color options (two-toned with sleeves black and body gray), I still went with it because I felt I had a lot more ability to move in this one compared to the others. Also, the inner jacket is a bit flashy for my style (it's kind of shiny like a leather jacket would be rather than a matte finish that I've seen in many other styles) but it's growing on me. If color is the only thing to complain about, I have it pretty good :) I've had the opportunity to wear both individually and then also together when I was up in the mountains this weekend in 18 degree and windy weather - I felt warm, comfortable and am thrilled with my purchase.
I guess if you are looking for something a bit more fitted, this wouldn't be the jacket for you -- but it's perfect for those of us who are looking for a bit more comfort, are on the go, moving around, skiing, hiking, getting on the ground for the perfect photo opp, running after the dog (or kids), etc. Highly recommend.

I bought this for an trip to Iceland in Oct. The weather was cold and rainy (beautiful country though!). I had to wear a polartec type jacket and vest underneath + a thermal shirt and sweater to stay warm. The hood was nice, and fit over a knitted cap. Coat kept me dry on days with light rain, but on a day when it rained harder (NOT pouring rain) it was soon pretty damp inside. I was never cold, maybe all my extra layers helped though. This jacket will be fine for winters in NM, but I'd hate for this to be my winter jacket in a place that actually got cold and wet. On the plus side, once I was back inside a warm room, the jacket dried fairly quickly once I took it off. This jacket *is not* water proof. If you need a waterproof jacket, buy something else.

Very very warm thermoball jacket. I’ve worn without the rain coat later before and keeps me nice and toasty. The combination of the raincoat layer and the thermoball jacket is perfect for really cold temperatures (35-45 deg F, 2-7 deg C) but not sure how they will hold up at below freezing because I’ve not worn them at that temperature before.

This jacket does everything you need. It fits great, feels great, and looks great. It's truly waterproof, snow proof, wind resistant, & relatively warm. If you need it to be warmer I'm sure you could upgrade the inner layer as it so conveniently zips in and out. Whoever designed this jacket seriously thought of it all. There are:
-Vents under the arm pits
-Small chest pocket (I like to use for my Ski card & chapstick) but there's a headphone hole if you use corded headphones and an iPod.
-The hood tightens around your face AND it tightens around your head
-The bottom can be tightened so wind and rain do not get in
-The end of the sleeves can be tighter around your wrists via the velcro straps which is way more comfortable.
-There's pockets on the outside (with zippers) and pockets on the inside of the inner layer for valuables that shouldn't be exposed to the elements.
- You could take out the inner Thermoball and use jacket as a wind-breaker OR even zip in a warmer jacket if you need.
-You can wear the Thermoball on its own
-The Thermoball snaps to the sleeves on the inside so you don't have to worry about "double sleeves" where they slip out or cause trouble when you push them up
It's so versatile that I wear it when I'm home in Los Angeles. When I travel to rainy, windy, and cold places. When I go hiking, or even if it's a cold day and I go out to run errands. I even wear it when I go skiing! I love having ONE jacket that does it all instead of a bunch of jackets that all serve different purposes. I honestly cannot think of one CON about this jacket and I would buy it again and again. If you don't own it, you're missing out.

Mostly used for wet weather. I love the fact that I can remove the inner layer for warmer days. It's perfect for walking around campus on wet and cold days! It would also be perfect for the slopes!

I live in the Northeast and wanted to get a jacket for fall and winter. This jacket fits both bills! So far I have worn the underlayer of the jacket without adding the additional layer on. It has kept me warm in the fall. It does not allow any wind to get through. It is extremely comfortable and fits really well. I would say that this product runs true to size. I definitely recommend this for anybody looking for a multi-purpose jacket.

I use this coat to keep from dying in the cold. I need a heavy duty coat because my body was not made for weather below 58F but around 44F I start to feel like I'm dying. I wish the coat was tighter around the waist and looser around the bust though.
