A note on ordering: I almost ordered a large instead of a medium because of comments that this is very fitted. It is, but I am 5'7", 150 pounds with an average build and can easily wear a thick sweater under this. It feels fitted, but not tight. If you're on the fence on size and around my size, the medium should be fine. It's super warm and the gray color is really nice, not silvery like some coats.

Excellent quality, extra long sleeves and feels like it would be very warm. The shell fabric is a bit heavier than the usual nylon. The gray color is a lovely dark silver. Sadly, the XL is too tight through the shoulders so not enough freedom of movement. Ended up going with the Eddie Bauer Lodge Parka in an XL Tall.

Finally the almost perfect coat for me. I was looking for new coat that longer than my eddie bauer but has the same warmth and simple hood. I ordered the north face metropolis parka but the length is above my knees and way too thin! I don't feel it's the same quality like my eddie bauer. Then I saw this coat online and read the review. I'm glad I got this. I definitely feel the quality, it's warm, I love the length overall and the hood. I ordered xs, the north face is crazily too small and not comfortable. The downtown parka is more comfortable although on the belly area is a little bit too snug but not too crazy that you can't breath. I probably can go with small but the sleeve probably would be too long

This is a fabulous winter coat. I loved it so much that i ordered a second one for my mom. It's great in really cold weather - e.g. it's 15 degrees outside today in dc, with wind chill of about 2 degrees. This coat is a life saver on days like that- it is so comfortable that it feels like you are basically wearing your favorite down comforter around town! I am 5'2" and this coat comes about 2-3" above the ankle - so for me, unlike the model shown, this is a long, almost full body length coat. Its windproof and stylish, and hood is snug enough to stay in place on windy days. The fit is not too tight either - I used to be a size 10-12, and I bought the Large back then (with plenty of room for a sweater inside). Nowadays I am down to a size 6 -8, and a Med would fit me fine.

I ordered a medium and a large; the medium was too restrictive in the shoulders (5'6, 155), and the large was just a bit too roomy. The length is great but the hood in the size L was gigantic - hard to see out the sides, and it looked like I was wearing a giant periscope. Zipping the hood in and out seems a bit fussy, and the zipper got stuck a few times while I was trying it out, so both sizes are going back.

Fit was normal. I am 5'6" 130 lbs I normally wear a size small or xs tops. A size 4 dress, a size 26-27 pant. The jacket is very warm, and very sophisticated looking. IT DOES HAVE A FULL HOOD tucked into a zipper compartment that is not obvious, but is definitely there. Deep mahogany is such an incredible color. Not quite brown, not quite purple. I love this coat and it has soft fleece type fabric inside the pockets.

I tried this coat in a medium recently in a store. It was too big. There was no size small to try, so I ordered here. It fits well everywhere except it was too tight in the armholes/shoulders. This is a recurring challenge for me with Patagonia. I am 5'9" and 135 lbs. That said the coat feels substantial and warm, the high neck is great, and Patagonia is a super company!

This is a beautiful coat of superior quality. Zappos service is spectacular! I received it within 24 hrs. of ordering it. Unfortunately the coat is too tight, meant for a very skinny woman or girl.

I returned this coat because I liked the Mountain Hardware better, but it is a great coat. The sleeve length is shorter for me, but it wasn't too short. The coat is well made and, as an owner of several Patagonia coats, I know it will last.

This jacket is fantastic! It kept me warm in -5C while I was in Germany & Poland in the winter. It covered most of my legs so it wasn't just my upper body that was warm but even my lower half. The pockets kept my hands warm, even if I wasn't wearing gloves. The hood was big enough to keep my head warm without it having to encase my head. Only downside is the static I get after putting it on/taking it off so will get a shock afterwards from touching anything.

This coat is flattering and well made, but the articulated hood is not a full hood. It does not cover all of my head! I am returning it and keeping the similar Patagonia down with it coat, which has a full, removable, hood.

The overall quality of this coat is what you would expect from an expensive Patagonia coat. Is quite lovely and comfortable in cold weather. Living in Maryland we have all types of weather and I have been able to wear it in almost all occasions. The one exception is when the weather was below 15°, this coat just does not keep you warm enough. My main complaint is with the horrendous zipper. From the first day I had this coat the zipper stuck continuously. It sticks towards the bottom, around the chest, and at the top. It is not super snug on me and I do not wear and I have to make it a possible issue of tension. I have attempted many solutions to get the zipper to work but it is just not worthy of a Patagonia coat. Also, for some odd reason the shoulder area does not keep you as warm as the rest of the coat. Even in 30° weather if there is a wind I can feel the cold around my upper arms and shoulder area. Perhaps this is only my coat and the way the feathers are resting in it but it is something that I am consistently notice since owning the coat. Overall it is a great coach but I would highly recommend being open to paying for a zipper replacement if you choose the boat. Stylewise it is OK, sort of boring, but it does the job of keeping you comfortable.

Beautiful coat, but I am returning it for some technical reasons. First, I am 5'6" and 135 with broad shoulders Med fit fine with two thin layers and a vest. Wanted it for attending all day outdoor activities where you go from standing long periods and then moving and getting warm and then needing to take off your coat to run short sprints. Didn't like the fact that it didn't have any snaps with a placket so I could wear it unzipped but keep it a bit closed with just one snap. The zipper was a bit tricky and it took me a while to figure out the best way to get it all the way zipped up to my chin ( nice feature!) Used left hand to pull the top part of the neck taut and then zipped with right. Didn't like how much effort it took to get it on and off quickly if I had it zipped. Felt like I had to bend waaaay over to zip and unzip. Pockets were deep enough for phone. The heather gray is a nice color. The deep mahogany was more on the ugly eggplant side.

The jacket is very nice but, in the end, I decided to return it. Here's why... When I zipped it up all the way, the material around the zipper kept getting caught in the zipper. It was pretty annoying. If it cost this much, I might put up with it , but at at almost this cost, I decided to send it back. If I'm going to spend that much on a coat it should be perfect for me. The quality was excellent and the medium fit well (I'm 5'7", #135).
