These boots are so different. I was really excited to try these boots because Arcteryx is a great brand, the boots were very lightweight, and I was intrigued by the modular concept with the inserts. My intent was to use them for backpacking and hunting with up to a 70lb pack for 3-5 days. I was also interested in using them as day hikers between 8-25 miles over rough terrain. When I pulled them out of the box my first reaction was that they looked very cool and very "Arcteryxy" and I said a silent prayer that they would fit well because they were so light compared to other stuff I was trying on (Scarpa Kinesis & SL Activ & Lowa Tibet GTX). I slid my foot my foot into the neoprene-like bootie and my sock got a little bunched up and it felt a little tight and awkward going through the cuff -- I had a flash forward moment to stepping out of my tent on a cold morning and trying to get into these boots and having a hard time because they were sort of frozen (like boots tend to get in the mountains when left in the vestibule of the tent). Anyway, I tried putting the boots on and off a few times and I got better at it each time. After 3-4 times of simply putting them on, they felt really good. Still, it was weird to have to practice putting them on a few times. Next I laced them up -- just like I do my Hanwag Alaska GTX boots I'm replacing. What I found is that these boots require quite a bit more thought when lacing because the laminate material doesn't really give or stretch. This means it is easy to get a tight spot on one where one of the laces criss cross. Again, with some practice and different lacing techniques I was able to get it so they felt pretty good. Between lacing sessions i walked them up and down a flight of stairs. I found them to have some weird laminate bending-folding thing going on near the joint of where my big toe joins my foot. This made me nervous. I'd heard you could remove the bootie liner, but I couldn't do it. It sure felt glued in there to me. i was also a little nervous about the amount of dirt and crud that might get between the bootie and the exterior shell. The best feature of the boot is the foot bed. It produced the best feel I've ever had on a boot -- by a long shot. It literally cradled my foot and I could envision myself going miles and miles in it. Interestingly I found it very stable as far as side-to-side and torsional analysis, but not very stiff from the ball of the foot forward. It was like it had a 3/4 rand and it needed a full rand or a full rand with a bit of flex around the toe. I actually thought a different flex would have solved the kinking sensation with the laminate so many others have described. I think these would be good for backpacking with less than 30 lbs, but I wouldn't trust them to more than that right now. I would trust them for side hilling off trail -- I think they would provide a good "bite." The rubber on the soles seemed superior in terms of grip and comfort. I did wonder how long it would last. In the end, I'm sending these back. I think Arcteryx is going to get these figured out. These boots have a lot of promise.
I'd also recommend:

These bots were amazing out of the box. Hardly no breakin required. True to size and a 12 is a snug fit for me which is what I normallyqhere with regular boots and shoes. If you plan to wear these with thick socks for winter hikes/treks, Recommend going a size up. Took these into the mountains of NEPAL for a 5 day trek and crushed it. Were very comfy and kept my feet dry. I've also noticed in voter environments my feet do not sweat near as bad as with traditional vortex boots. Don't pas these up. Worth every penny!

I have been wearing this boots for 2 years now, so I have had time to truly test them. I have taken them on hikes both during summer and winter. I have also used them while snowshoeing. This hiking boots are amazing. I was in the market for a pair of high quality boots that performed, were stylish, and light. The boots are all that and more. My feet are never too hot or cold, and they are so light it's very easy to hike up. Some comments mention how stiff the sole is, and this is true. I appreciate the stiffness of the sole, as it helps keep you stable. Overall, best hiking boots I have ever had. They still look like new.

I got these for a month long trekking trip in Nepal and they were great. Super comfortable, no blisters after 2+ weeks of trekking. Also have worn them mountaineering on snow and rock, and they performed well - grippy on the rock, light-weight, etc..

I love everything Arcteryx, so it pains me to leave such a poor review, but I bought these when they first came out a few years ago and have been on some serious hikes with them (e.g., The North Coast Trail). While they are super lightweight, they were almost too flexible at times, especially on cobblestone beaches with a pack on. They need a firmer base, you can literally fold the boot in half. Great for lighter, vertical climbing but not ideal for back country trekking across varied terrain. They are insanely waterproof, which made them awesome for hiking around in Iceland in the spring with all the waterfalls and snow, but they get really hot and sweaty and you can't remove the insole to wash them. So after a few hikes in all that gortex, they smell pretty bad and there isn't much you can do about it. I prefer to use more breathable water resistant boots and gaiters in wet conditions. Despite the heat that gets trapped in them, I have never once got a blister while hiking in them.

I have heel spurs and most boots shred through my feet like paper and give me terrible blisters. I needed new boots for a backpacking trip through the Rockies and decided to go with the Bora GTX based on the positive experience I've had with my Norvan VT GTX. I was not disappointed. Over the course of a week I trekked almost 150km through streams, muskeg, and mud and didn't get a single blister! My feet remained perfectly dry and never once felt muggy or hot (which they have with other Goretex boots). The integrated "sock" did get some getting used to, but now I love it. I couldn't recommend these boots more.

Truly amazing. Waterproof. Hearty. Comfortable. Stylish. Yes, I am a real person. I love these boots. They do not pinch any where. Never in my life have I had a hiking boot that hasn't pinched. I have sensitive heels so I have to wear thick socks but no issues with binding or pinching or owies.

Very supportive for long days of hiking with a heavy pack. Lots of protection against sharp rocks. Breathes well on hot days and waterproof for when the skies decide to dump on you.

I go off-trail and bushwack quite a bit and I have worn these boots on soft fir-covered dirt trails, through mud, across streams, hard scrambles, and rough rocky terrain. These are the most comfortable, lightest, and durable boots I have worn. The days of flayed tops of my feet are now gone: The Bora's have no tongue to rub against the tender skin, your feet are ensconced in a Gore-Tex liner. I have waded through many streams and was shocked that my feet were still relatively dry. The rubber compound on the tread is sticky on rocky surfaces--this may lead to premature wear but I appreciate not slipping on rocks.

After owning many Salomon (still an Amer brand) boots, I made the switch. No turning back. These fit great. They look sharp. I went with all black as other boots tend to be too flashy looking. Used many time and not much noticeable wear or smell.

These are quite possibly the most comfortable hiking boots I have ever worn. I have put hundreds of miles on them over the past year or so and I have never experienced hot spots or blisters. I went a half size up because I have wide feet and they fit just fine. I did start to wear very light merino wool socks very early on as I felt that my usual mid-weight socks caused my feet to get noticeably hot and the shoes felt a bit too snug. One of the reasons I really like these boots is that they are very light and they have a sleek athletic profile that most hiking boots do not have; most of the hiking boots on the market today and that I have worn in the past have a cloddish, clumsy feel to them--a throw-back to big, heavy, and sturdy mountain boots of the past. The Bora boots have an "approach shoe" agility to them while retaining the sturdiness and durability that is necessary on rugged trails. The liner acts like gaiters on the trail, keeping little rocks and pebbles out of the shoea nice touch. These boots are a leap forward in design and innovation for hiking boots. I highly recommend them.

Days before a week-long hiking trip to Iceland I was debating about these boots vs more conventional heavy duty leather boots. I liked their fit and feel out of the box, no hard spots or anything that I felt would be a problem, so I decided to return the leather boots. It was a good choice - we hiked on lava, trails, rocks, some old snow, wet and muddy trails for a week, and they performed flawlessly. Even used some strap-on crampons for a short glacier hike, although they did feel a bit soft for that.

I've had these boots for a few months now, and I'd have to say I'm so happy I bought them. Wasn't too sure how they'd work out but knowing Arc'teryx, I thought they'd be decent enough boots. My main reason for looking for new boots was to use for caving in the TAG region, since my last hiking boots got destroyed after a few months of caving about every other week. I needed something that would provide the support I needed, the traction I could count on, and not fall apart so quickly as my last boots. So far, these boots have been the ones I was looking far! They've worked great in the various caves I've been to. My only concern is that they might soon be too small for my feet, since I ordered a size 10 (which I usually get) but they were a bit more narrow than I expected. Couldn't exchange them however cause I had a trip the next day that I needed boots for. But other than that I love them and Arc'teryx!

I'm the electrical grid manager for the US Marine Corps Base Quantico. I'm in the field 60% of the time. Rain, sleet, snow or sun, I wear these boots to the office or into the field and they're comfortable for both! I have flat feet (no arches) and these boots are still comfortable. It took me a whole week for my back and feet to "adjust" to the boots, but once I got used to the support and the stability of the boot,...I started to wear them every day. Wearing these boots is like putting on top end tires on my feet. A year ago, I wore only Florsheim dress shoes; now my goal is to wear only the Bora Hiking Boot. They're a lot cheaper than buying three pairs of Florsheim AAA width per year!

The sizing chart suggested US Men 9.5 for me after I measured my foot based on the instruction. But I ordered 10 online which is my usual sneaker size, and I was right, they fit perfect. If I went ahead with the 9.5 my toes will be exactly at the tip of the boots with no room at all. I have normal width foot. I tried it with an average thickness socks. Out of the box they feel so perfect and lightweight and the stability is undeniable. I feel the support of liner hugging my feet well and feel confident they will do great on the trails. The look is just way too cool. I didn't feel any discomfort or bunching of the outer layer at all. The only thing I can nitpick is changing the insoles. It's a little bit of a struggle, but with some patience you will be rewarded with great comfort once you put your feet back in. I will break it in this week and see how it goes on the trail.
